It seems to me that the laws in most places would be the authority providing oversight. A landlord cannot place a surveillance device inside a tenants rental, at least in the states that I am aware of, and it could very well be a federal crime as well. I guess you could agree to allow the landlord to record you, but who in their right mind would do that? And are they getting approval from every single person staying on the property? if not, it is illegal. This is not an AirBnB problem. This is a problem with rental properties and perverts and it should be solved by prosecuting these landlords to the full extent of the law.
The employees should take solace in the fact that this is not a legitimate R&D program. It is pure government pork. On the surface, it appears that the DoD is paying Microsoft for something the desperately want. In reality, Microsoft's lobbyists, are funding campaigns to have politicians direct the DoD to give them an award. Anyone with experience in this industry knows it. Past military R&D contracts for AR technology were most likely always less than $10M, unless we are maybe talking about AR helmets for pilots. A $500M contract is absolutely absurd for someone to further develop consumer grade technologies, and typically, you ramp up to a big contract through a series of smaller contracts that prove out the underlying system. If anyone should be signing a petition against this, it should be the tax payers.
we need more app repositories like f-droid that cater toward users that are not getting what they need out of play store. I personally do not mind paying for my apps from a repository that gauranteed privacy. What is a few dollars in the grand scheme of things, but it is actually getting hard to find quality apps that will respect your privacy for a price.

Some European countries did something about it and were able to get a judgement against this practice, but the U.S. Government remains silent.
It would really be interesting to see a study on the more confident individuals and their reason for confidence. It could be an ego type of thing, which I think you are implying, but I think there could be a couple of other possibilities as well. Maybe they intrinsically value hard work more than intelligence and consider that to be what makes them not a fraud, or maybe they have enough life experience to realize that the Dunning Kruger effect is real and compensate for that in their assessment, effectively realizing that all of their peers are similarly limited in their knowledge.
I am typicallly around 700 MB of data and I don't hold back. Home, work, gym, hotels, restaurants... they all have wifi. I don't think I could use 10 GB of data in a month if I tried.
Its really not, because you save a ton by not paying for unused data. If you use 515 MB, then you pay $5.15 for data. Fi also does a great job of using wifi whenever possible, including for voice calls and the provide a free VPN so that you can feel safe using public wifi in more places.
My bill is typically around $28. Most providers with service rates in that ball park do not give you access to Nexus phones.

Then they license the technology from the new company at a royalty cost that is coincidentally exactly equal to the amount of earnings that they need to shelter from the governments.
When citizens like you try to fudge the values of property during a person-to-person transfer in order to cut the government out, the IRS will call it tax evasion and come after you.
I do not think it is really a matter of trust. If the DNS system is not being managed well, then it can be taken control of more easily than you might think. For instance, if the EU wanted to take 100% control of all of their TLDs and make them subordinate to a new root, it could be done. It would create issues temporarily, but nothing that could not be worked around. I think the issue with handing over control of the existing root and management of new TLDs is that it is hard to identify an organization and funding that would do a better job of competently managing the system, but there are certainly many organizations and countries that we don't want involved in managing the system. So the low risk approach is "If its not broke, don't fix it".

You may have a technology, but you don't have a product, a market, a business model, or a customer. So start learning about how you build companies. There are plenty of online classes or books at the library. And forget about starting with big companies just because they are big, you need to find the companies that are hurting the most from the problem you are solving - electrical fires.

I think that it was more than just marketing. Prior to Arduino, it as hard to get started in working with microcontrollers. Almost every manufacturer focused their products on already trained engineers. Arduino, from the beginning was primarily targeted toward learning for beginners. 1. Arduino was cheap 2. Arduino did not require specialty hardware for programming 3. The IDE was free, cross platform, and worked out of the box without any complicated set up. 4. They focused on lots of accessible documentation and learning material.
Now that Arduino has been successful, everybody else has jumped on the bandwagon and in many ways have developed superior ecosystems. But I credit Arduino for being the trailblazer. I have recently reallly been into MBED and Spark Core, but I doubt that those systems would exist as they are today had it not been for the creators of Arduino.
I think a lot of IoT implementation have that idea of a central server. There is nothing wrong with it, but even then, IP still comes in handy because so many integration issues are already solved. For instance, there are existing IETF protocols for device discovery currently used for devices like printers that would work well for other devices as well.
Vegetables are good for us. In fact, I like eating most vegetables. But if I want a peach pie, I should be able to go the grocery and just purchase the peaches, flour, and sugar that I need. I do not want someone to force me to buy broccoli along with my peach pie ingredients. That does not mean that I will never by broccoli in the future. But right now, I just want a peach pie.
