    Make science exciting and full of wonder, and you'll attract more folks to it. Some of those folks will want to work on the flashy things, some will want to know *how* those flashy things work.

    What about in 5 years, or some other point in the future? The advantage of programming for say, x86, etc. is that the hardware will be out there and available for some time, and it will keep getting more clock cycles, etc. However, how long will the X Box be on the market? Will researchers be hunting pawn shops and garage sales in 5 years to replace broken hardware units?

    I did the same thing, but it was for a firearm. Gun was found in a pawn shop, but I was not allowed to get it back for some reason... even with police report, etc.

    Can you grill UDP packets after putting a slice of jalepeno pepper on it and wrapping in bacon? Because if so, then yes, the equivalent of UDP. Don't think UDP tastes as good though...

    Actually, there are many smaller calibers capable of doing accurate work at 1km. The 50bmg can go closer to 2-2.5km, and there are a few smaller rounds (338 Lapua) that can equal it with less fuss

    Yup, I've got 3 model M's in my garage, just so I have one when my current in-use one dies for some reason.

    Also have a couple of Northgate Omnis, which are great 'cause the Fn keys are on the far left of the board running up and down.

    To be honest, my kids don't have toy guns. Guns are not for playing with, in any way shape or form. If they want to, they ask daddy to go to the rifle range or skeet/trap club, and we all have fun with guns....

    Actually, a lot of folks design cannons around available ammo... pool balls, golf balls, bowling balls, etc. And black powder is relatively easy to make....

    My dad died w/ ALS - not sure if that was the cause of death or not, he had a long history of high blood pressure and had a heart attack at age 71, which some could view as "normal".

    Apparently, there are 2 "flavors" of ALS - dead in a year, or you may have 2-40 years (like Hawking).

    Find one of the 770s, 800s, or 810s... while very old, my 770 is still very useful and functional. And still lasts a long time on a battery charge.

    No, but this can be done by most of the major learning management systems, both proprietary (Angel, Blackboard, etc) and open (Sakai, Moodle).

    22 rifle loaded with the "snake shot" or "rat shot" pellets. Whole bunch of little tiny shot, good for 10 yards or so at most before the pattern opens too much.

    And when your paper, project, etc. is due Monday morning, and your CPU fan or PSU dies Friday night, you really have time for a online purchase...

    There are some things that you just have to have *now* and even if it costs you $5-10 more than the online item, having it after a 30 min drive and short walk is worth it.

    Even with a massive pipe and unlimited peers, if it takes you 10 min to do a full download at instant on to full capacity and each peer hosting just the right part, etc. , the satellite is only in your FOV long enough to do less than half of the download from. May as well just swarm it from terra firma.
