If any two terms indicate a lack of science, those must be mainstream opinion and consensus. Is the earth getting warmer? Yes, we're undergoing climate change. But global warming, as in "mankind is to blame", that's hardly scientific. No matter how many people agree.
Mankind only accounts for a fraction of greenhouse gas output on earth. Industrialisation does not explain historical temperature levels as recent as the Middle Ages. Variations in solar output and their impact are not entirely understood.
Worst of all: if all the global warming theories are correct, then combatting it seems futile. Kyoto only undoes a fraction of the alleged damage done. I'd rather invest in infrastructure to cope with climate change than silly projects that are barely effective even when the assumptions are right, let alone when they are not.
What this "talking point" ignores is that the so-called "new ice age" never had much scientific credibility; it is primarily remembered because it had a great deal of press coverage.
Making it a very good analogy for the global warming hype..
One of my friends has an ad-system on his page and he says that real estate ads pull in a few dollars per "click". Nothing to back that up apart from what he's said.
Oh, I easily believe that: I did some research earlier and gambling and anti-depressants can pull up to a fiver.
So basically it's:
1. Find emo girls and let them create profiles/blogs 2. Use contextual advertising on their profiles/blogs 3. Profit!
And to think some people laugh at MySpace. I bet none of them have received a check from Murdock lately..
And once you've done all that and there's time left: read up on XmlHttpRequest. It is not just for fanciful features but can also reduce server load for Javascript-enabled clients (while remaining 100% compatible for others). Don't go overboard with it, but there are plenty of occasions where you just want some data to update and not your entire DOM tree.
Also, consider writing your own Apache module. Scripting languages are *slow*.
Good to see some more DC in use. Tesla was right about AC for many applications but DC has its merits and any useful application of DC is a credit to Edison's scientific achievements.
Obviously she doesn't care that she can be linked to those search terms and I don't see why she would have to be. Anyone who would take the effort to get to know her would get to know these things. Privacy is about things people want to keep private, not about the amount of information you let be free.
You can't say that civilian areas are legit military targets because a soldier may be in the area.
Yes you can, because otherwise you would have a policy not to attack people who break the Geneva convention by hiding amongst citizens. In war the responsibility to avoid casualties belongs to both parties. If you can't attack those who use human shields, human shields become a perfect method of defense.
Any hardware that requires signed binaries prevents this unless signature capability is given to anyone who wants it.
And that will happen. Even in a DRM-only world, every single software company in the world must remain able to easily give all developer machines and laptops the ability to generate binaries and to run them locally for testing. Not a single company will accept a dependency on third party certification for an urgent, crucial bugfix at 3am in the night. None of the parties behind DRM would benefit from a complete collapse of the ICT sector, so everyone will be able to sign.
They tried this as experiment at a Rotterdam bus station. It barely has any effect and in fact backfired as youth learned to use it to their advantage - albeit in a completely different way. The "Mosquitone" ringtone is a high frequency sound and indeed: none of my co-workers can hear it (they're all early to late 30s), but I (29) can and although the correlation is obviously not 100%, it works most of the time. So teenagers use it in classrooms.. they can hear text messages coming in but the teacher does not.. clever.
And it's not unbearably annoying anyway. It's just like the noise you hear after a rough gig or party.

Konqueror's CSS support annoys me maybe 1% of the time I am serving. Firefox's lack of desktop integration annoys me constantly.
Seriously. Once you get used to directly dropping files from an obex:/ Bluetooth folder to an sftp:/ folder, or from an audiocd:/ Compact Disc to a Samba share.. you'll never want to go back. Ever.

So basically, all you need to get the perfect desktop is to switch to a distribution that splits the KDE modules into separate application packages?
I think the answer is 'no'. This software needn't distinguish between the grammatical status of "flies", it would be sufficient to spot both the concepts of chronological speed and the animals and that could be done based on the phrases "time flies" and "fruit flies" and their respective correlation to articles of either nostalgic or biological nature.
A Slashdotter who has a girlfriend who enjoys playing with him. Talk about backwards stereotypes.
Is there anything that says this came from 419 scams?
You're misreading the comments. Unless some 419 scammer is now laughing out loud for succesfully conning the Beeb and subsequently Hemos.
Plus, why would you pad with 0xDF instead of null? (There might be a reason, but I don't know of it.)
So this is how Microsoft claims support for ODF. Clever.
What is next? Earth is flat?
This was in fact the "scientific" concensus until actual science disproved it.

If we're going to be pedantic and say Pluto isn't a planet, then can we finally admit Abe initially didn't give a hoot about slavery?
No argument here, tofu is superb. The real question is "what for" because edible, it is not.

So, you have a point about mindset, I just had an issue with the idea that a suicide bomber can hit anywhere.
Well, they could if the range of the bomb were sufficient..

Why do you think Myspace is worth so much to Fox? It's a database of millions of teenagers who proudly list their interests and hobbies.
Yup, like TV, people are the content and advertisers the customer. It's just a bit more clear on the web where people actually are the content.

Can we finally drop this already? Dupes appear on Slashdot, yes. Is it a problem? Only if you're looking for one.
