    huh, the 13 years of Linux 2.6 compares well with 12 years of solaris 9 (released Mar 2002 - EOL Oct 2014) or AIX 5.3 (Aug 2004-April 2012). Even the IBM mainframe OS don't go that long for major/minor point release (includes kernel)

    yes the kernel version of each included with support compared to linux which is just the kernel

    correct, and is defined in the law as such. any lawyer who uses the term for software copyright violation is a hack and should not be taken seriously.

    To those who would claim there is another definition in law, yes there is also "air piracy" which is taking over an aircraft.

    yeah if you use the proprietary nvidia drivers it works great. too bad the open source one sucks. I wished I lived in the world where everything was open source, even the firmware in my disk drives and bios and usb devices......but we don't live in that world

    wrong. people need a working video system to do serious work too. if the open source driver can't do the job they aren't going to throw away their card nor should they. The reality of the world isn't as beautiful as the followers of Stallman imagine. I don't play games and I use nvdidia binaries on my Linux Mint system. I'm not throwing away the used computer I bought on ebay because of "open source purity"

    you make assertion about policy in the future clinging to your past and present. If automated driving proves significantly safer than human at the wheel then there is no reason to have licensed driver, only licensed system that is superior to human driver. Seems clear to me that is the likely and desirable future. And just think if cars could ad-hoc couple up like electric trains to reduce overall fuel consumption and wear per unit (reduced air resistance, reduced load on each motor)
