100 mpg is doable, especially if we could accept a return back to 50's era reliability standards. Anyone else remember 5 digit odometers? 100,000 miles was a big deal back then. Nowadays they can comfortably offer a lifetime powertrain warranty - reliability has made huge leaps, especially with EFI.

But, by leaning out the fuel and doing some other tricks, 100mpg is doable and has been done. Your engine will tear itself apart at about 50-60ks though. Is the gas you saved enough to offset casting a new engine block? I doubt it.

Forced induction can greatly boost efficiency on any engine, and I for one would like to see more super and turbocharged cars that aren't marketed for the gearheads, but to actually drive some mechanical reality into the average buyer. Turbo = advantage during acceleration, hybrid = advantage during acceleration. Lots of these 4 cyl turbocars see real world mileage that blows away the Prius.

Yet, day after day, somebody tells me how amazing the prius is, it captures a few watts when it brakes! They spout the literature like it was some kind of fucking free energy machine, and it drives me up the wall.

Ultimately, if your goal is to help the environment, you're better off maintaining an existing car for 10-20 years or more, which is really feasible with todays engines. The production of a vehicle uses way more energy than the slight efficiency boost would ever offset. The real solution would bet to get people out of the "need a new car every 2 years or i wont look cool" mindset.

Take it way beyond cars too - we treat too many things as disposable these days. TVs, appliances, you name it.. If it doesn't work one day, it gets tossed. We waste so much money and energy replacing things which could be easily fixed. So much false economy, and outright profiteering in all this greeny-green save the world bullshit.

Or whatever, moon man technology. I'm an American consumer, how can I SPEND THIS ECOLOGICAL PROBLEM AWAY.

So I can see why it makes sense to blame the victim, if its even a little bit his fault, his family can't sue the zoo for having a tiger enclosure that doesnt meet THE MINIMUM SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS.

Make no mistake about it, that is why this guy died. Taunting the animals? That's what kindergarten kids do every single fucking day. Like it or not, that's what zoos are

So one of the three had alcohol in him, the news spins it as they were all drunk drivers (leap of faith, yeah the one drunk guy MUST have drove there). They find a little pot, OMG, they must have deserved to die. Everyone who smokes a little pot is an evil, evil man.

I wonder how this would play out in the press if it was a kindergarten class that was attacked, or, if the victim was simply white with a nice european sounding name, instead of being one of them thar DRUG USING TEEEEROOORRRREESSTTTSS.

The way this story has played out has really shown me just how inherently racist, ignorant and stupid the left-wing hippy movement really is.

This animals keepers are guilty of manslaughter, just like I would be if I had a pitbull which escaped the yard and mauled a kid, regardless of whether or not the kid mooned the dog and gave it the finger.

There's the odd RTS or FPS popping up every now and then, but they're no Half Life 2.

Counterstrike and Team Fortress had more to do with Valve's success than Half Life, and they were community created.

The relationship can be quite beneficial to both parties, when the developers value and respect their audience, instead of treating them with distrust and contempt.

ID Software wouldn't even exist, and John Carmack would be pulling cable through cubes, if it wasn't for all of us evil "pirates" spreading Commander Keen, and later Doom around the BBS scene.

There are plenty of examples where the community made it happen.

No label would sign Metallica, until they noticed how wildly popular their bootleg tapes were, and how packed the shows they played were. A decade and a half later, they sue all of those very same fans, for sharing the very same bootlegs on napster.

Personally I hope the industry decides to stick with the them-v-us mentality. They can only lose in the end. Do you think these writers are ever coming back to work? They want more money from a dying industry, and it's an industry that's dying because of them! Can you imagine unionized writing staff? WTF.
