Why would somebody want to pay MORE for a photoshop that isn't going to run as well? I'm assuming they already own a Mac or PC with a perfectly cromulent OS installed.
This statement really makes Lessig look like a tool.
It's well known the Clinton/Gore clique is pro-censorship, and very much against most of the things the EFF stands for. This is the type of cocksuckery that makes me really, really, really hate these supposed "lefties".
At the end of the day, they DONT STAND FOR ANYTHING - except 'bush is a big meanie jerk'. They have no beliefs, they have no heart, they have no soul.
I'm sure Lessig would be the first to vote for a stricter DMCA, a full-on ban on video games that he doesn't like, and a Congress-approved legal dragnet for the MPAA/RIAA, why? JUST BECAUSE BUSH WOULDNT and he kills BROWN PEOPLE FOR OIL yuk yuk yuk
Another dipshit on the left calling for "change", with no actual position on anything.
My company was publically traded for two years, and was recently bought by a large multi-national. Somehow, magically, mysteriously, the week before the announcement of the buyout offer was made, our stock jumped 2.50 out of nowhere, which is pretty big for a 5 dollar stock.
I asked the CFO about it at the company meeting, in front of a sea of shocked faces, and smirked at his "uhh some guys were shorting the stock its a coinkydink" answer.
Why regular folks would even invest is beyond me. The whole stupid fucking system is rigged to take from the poor, and give to the rich.
3x as likely to die in a car crash any given year, huh?
How come smokers cant use that argument to defend their personal choices?
I say, if it causes cancer, cell phones be banned from ALL PUBLIC PLACES, the government should tax cell phone usage at about 900%, and insurance companies should get special leave to triple your rates, regardless of the real fiduciary risk involved.
I will henceforth dedicate myself to spreading awareness of second hand cell phone signals.
DID YOU KNOW YOU ARE 100 MORE LIKELY TO DIE OF SECOND HAND CELL PHONE USAGE THAN FIRST HAND?!??!?>?!>!>! ITS A SCIENTIFIC FACT (at least it will be when enough do-gooder assholes repeat it without thinking)
100 mpg is doable, especially if we could accept a return back to 50's era reliability standards. Anyone else remember 5 digit odometers? 100,000 miles was a big deal back then. Nowadays they can comfortably offer a lifetime powertrain warranty - reliability has made huge leaps, especially with EFI.
But, by leaning out the fuel and doing some other tricks, 100mpg is doable and has been done. Your engine will tear itself apart at about 50-60ks though. Is the gas you saved enough to offset casting a new engine block? I doubt it.
Forced induction can greatly boost efficiency on any engine, and I for one would like to see more super and turbocharged cars that aren't marketed for the gearheads, but to actually drive some mechanical reality into the average buyer. Turbo = advantage during acceleration, hybrid = advantage during acceleration. Lots of these 4 cyl turbocars see real world mileage that blows away the Prius.
Yet, day after day, somebody tells me how amazing the prius is, it captures a few watts when it brakes! They spout the literature like it was some kind of fucking free energy machine, and it drives me up the wall.
Ultimately, if your goal is to help the environment, you're better off maintaining an existing car for 10-20 years or more, which is really feasible with todays engines. The production of a vehicle uses way more energy than the slight efficiency boost would ever offset. The real solution would bet to get people out of the "need a new car every 2 years or i wont look cool" mindset.
Take it way beyond cars too - we treat too many things as disposable these days. TVs, appliances, you name it.. If it doesn't work one day, it gets tossed. We waste so much money and energy replacing things which could be easily fixed. So much false economy, and outright profiteering in all this greeny-green save the world bullshit.
Or whatever, moon man technology. I'm an American consumer, how can I SPEND THIS ECOLOGICAL PROBLEM AWAY.
PS2 games carry the DVD logo and they wont work on just any DVD player!
This lawsuit is so silly it's not really newsworthy. Probably some amateur lawyer who looks at the legal system as his own personal, free lottery ticket.
Well good ole athiest Hitler managed to justify the murder of six million Jews, so apparently no belief system has a monopoly on extremism, or evil behavior.
Gov editions of Windows don't carry those EULA provisions, and even if they did Microsoft would be chuckled out of court if they ever tried to assert that they own all of the governments data.
You've been duped by the cable company into a bugus "us vs them" scenario that doesn't actually exist.
What they're trying to do, see, is charge *YOU* more for less service. By villainizing heavy users as people who are damaging your experience, despite that they bought the same unlimited service, advertised for the purposes of broadband video and other multimedia - and are using it exactly how it was intended.
They're trying to build up the same tyranny of the masses that exists against smokers, so no matter how unfairly they are charged or taxed you will jump up and cheer as if it was truly for the good of all humanity. (Thats right, my inflated premiums and extra taxation pay for all you obese fuckers when you lose that foot to diabetes, but lets pretend that smoking is a serious health problem, and obesity isnt)
Get the regular Joe to hate those geeks! Downloading movies from netflix or vongo? How dare they - it's practically terrorism! Using anything but Comcast On-Demand hurts MY experience - you're either with us or against us!
These days everybody is downloading movies to their Xbox, Tivo or PS3. They're buying games on Steam, they're watching YouTube. This idea that 95% of users merely check their email and use less than 5 gigs a month? Maybe in 1996.
What I hear, is it's DAMN LUCKY FOR YOU that only 5% of your customers actually use their service. If everyone downloaded the music and movies YOU ADVERTISE IN YOUR COMMERCIALS FOR THE SERVICE, then the network would not function at all.
It's not my fault you don't have the capacity to give your customers what they've been paying for.
In this age of streaming media and online marketplaces only a fucking dinosaur like the cable industry would propose a 5 gigabyte cap.
Too bad for Comcast, I'd rather rent a movie from XBox marketplace than watch it on your laggy, low quality On Demand service. Their answer is to make sure that wont be cost effective.
Goddammit FCC, where are you?
I'm calling for FIOS tonight, at least the telcos still have some regulation.
Godspeed, hurry up and ruin the internet for anything but pop-under ads, I can't wait for the new underground.
California, IIRC, is a "contributory negligence" state, or whatever lawyers call it. Basically, if you're 0.0001% responsible for something, you're wholly responsible, and thus nobody can sue. What a coinkydink the police suspended the investigation as soon as it started to turn against the zoo.
So I can see why it makes sense to blame the victim, if its even a little bit his fault, his family can't sue the zoo for having a tiger enclosure that doesnt meet THE MINIMUM SAFETY RECOMMENDATIONS.
Make no mistake about it, that is why this guy died. Taunting the animals? That's what kindergarten kids do every single fucking day. Like it or not, that's what zoos are
So one of the three had alcohol in him, the news spins it as they were all drunk drivers (leap of faith, yeah the one drunk guy MUST have drove there). They find a little pot, OMG, they must have deserved to die. Everyone who smokes a little pot is an evil, evil man.
I wonder how this would play out in the press if it was a kindergarten class that was attacked, or, if the victim was simply white with a nice european sounding name, instead of being one of them thar DRUG USING TEEEEROOORRRREESSTTTSS.
The way this story has played out has really shown me just how inherently racist, ignorant and stupid the left-wing hippy movement really is.
This animals keepers are guilty of manslaughter, just like I would be if I had a pitbull which escaped the yard and mauled a kid, regardless of whether or not the kid mooned the dog and gave it the finger.
The San Francisco Zoo has blood on it's hands. They killed a child on christmas.
There's the odd RTS or FPS popping up every now and then, but they're no Half Life 2.
Counterstrike and Team Fortress had more to do with Valve's success than Half Life, and they were community created.
The relationship can be quite beneficial to both parties, when the developers value and respect their audience, instead of treating them with distrust and contempt.
ID Software wouldn't even exist, and John Carmack would be pulling cable through cubes, if it wasn't for all of us evil "pirates" spreading Commander Keen, and later Doom around the BBS scene.
There are plenty of examples where the community made it happen.
No label would sign Metallica, until they noticed how wildly popular their bootleg tapes were, and how packed the shows they played were. A decade and a half later, they sue all of those very same fans, for sharing the very same bootlegs on napster.
Personally I hope the industry decides to stick with the them-v-us mentality. They can only lose in the end. Do you think these writers are ever coming back to work? They want more money from a dying industry, and it's an industry that's dying because of them! Can you imagine unionized writing staff? WTF. Instead of talent and creativity, you're rewarded simply for seniority. No wonder TV and movies are so fucking unwatchable. Bye bye writers union, sorry but there is simply no logical reason for you to even exist.
Why would somebody want to pay MORE for a photoshop that isn't going to run as well? I'm assuming they already own a Mac or PC with a perfectly cromulent OS installed.
Don't you know this is a purely partisan issue?
This statement really makes Lessig look like a tool.

Some sort of furry/anime/cosplay thing?
Don't tell me, I don't even want to know.
I'm sure society is much better off without it.
Why can't you people do that silly spaceman shit in private? The rest of society doesn't want to see you.
I bet this is a trick into goading them into making homosexual jokes when mocking the letters. There's no way it CAN'T be.
They might be seeking "ass action" status.

I thought light travelled at C and that was that.
What gives?
And the left and right hands never, ever touch, huh?
A stainless steel knife and fork can be sterilized, a hand.. Not so much..
They eat shit and they like it. Everybody knows this. They hate us for our non-shiteating ways.

i think he ment UBONTU LINX get that its good for webs
Darr I'm a clever compooter wiz cuz i canna use a vista
My Vista experience:
Someone bought a new laptop, I helped them configure the wifi card and it was pretty much XP with googly eyes.
Can't burn a fucking kaboonto CD, that's rich.
If you can't use Windows, you're a fucking moron, and linux isn't going to help you with that, plain and simple.

There's too many to round up and ship to africa, maybe we could make some sort of cheap biofuel from them?
What do you think about it, you racist bag of dogshit?

Why cant they watch TV? If you're as close to NYC as you say, you should be able to get all the major networks over air, and in HD no less.
Digital broadcasting really does rock, if you have roof access, spend 100 bucks on an antenna. Thats two months worth of comcast cable.
You wont miss 90 channels of reruns, and you'll have something to watch on a rainy day.
Keep up the political insight, stupid. Do you even read the newspaper?
Must be a slashdot article. Can the stories at least agree with themselves?
/.?
Is anyone sick of looking everything up on Digg to get the actual story after reading
This is like saying vehicles are banned, because you need a permit to drive.
They're mp3s you download and sync up with all sorts of popular, and unpopular flicks.
They did one with Lowtax for Troll 2 or 3 or some such piece of junk.
