of course this page would be more useful especially for everybody else... but at first glance at the summary I started to scratch my head and wonder why exactly somebody would make this.
Add to that admins who lease IP addresses for servers. You really don't need the IP address on your new dedicated server to have been recently held by a spam group.
There's nothing wrong with MS being ambitious in aiming to get new features into Vista, and even if some don't make it - there have been 4 1/2 years since the last release that should improve the usability of the widest deployed desktop OS in the world today.
You can't sledge MS for taking longer than expected to release Vista, then in the next comment complain about the lack of features.
Just so you know it's pomes, as in Prisoners Of Mother England.
When expanding the acronymn to an Englishman you always get a reply "but hey you're the prisoners!", at which point it's customary to point out that they're still stuck there.
I've always believed that small teams work better and more efficiently, so it sounds a pretty smart move IMO. Hopefully efficient development will lead to better development and and even better browser.
Agreed. Networking gear and configuration really is complex for non-techy households that will hopefully house the majority of wireless gear in the future. Proof is already in the number of open nodes around. If they play nice everyone wins.
Security costs money. Of course, the money gets spent on expensive and showy equipment, not on better training of security personnel
While I take your point on the perception of security in the purchase, you're asking a lot of security staff to detect something deliberatly being hidden with as much accuracy as this technology suppossedly will.
Getting on public transport shouldn't require an interview, lie detector, and strip search before boarding, but it is a common terrorism target and should be protected with the highest security practical.
It is up to the individual workers to choose if they prefer a KDE Desktop or a Microsoft based system. The officials expect that about 4,800 machines can run KDE in the short term.
That's a very ambitious target if they are only offering it, not saying "you will use this".
I should add that I didn't mean to imply that Google's desktop search is doing a similiar style of mass-computing job as this grid will be used for, but it does do a similiar thing using processing cycles that would not be used for it's local indexing.
I think it's great as long as they're careful not to impede on the user working. Done badly these applications get annoying if they are too pushy about beginning their processing before a reasonable user timeout.
Google's desktop search is one example where the timing and recovery back to the user is really done well.

When quantum computing first hit the more "mainstream" press a few years ago it was hoped that they would start to be produced initailly close to the 10GHz mark. Anyone else got a more accurate figure these days?
The small guys try to get rich with patents suing the big guys, so the big guys get further patents to protect themselves.
The system is fucked.

Yes, generally. Most servers hosted in a datacenter (95% at a guess) are connected to either 10MB or 100MB ethernet.
