More like shame on me for buying the damn card, what a piece of crap that is... my friend in the DV industry told me his department tested the card and the conclusion was (apart from being crap) that they had really skimped on the hardware acceleration/decoder processor (just so it could do the bare minimum)... looks like they skimped on the 'development' (read. stolen) of the DivX (cough, XVid) implementation and the complete joke they called a 'player'.

The other thing was I had to look when buying it, 'cos NewEgg didn't sell it... only Sigma themselves and CDW sold it (the latter where I got it from). Hmm, NewEgg rules... I must learn to trust my instincts now and think twice to the thought 'Why aren't NewEgg selling it?'. DOH, DOH and thrice DOH! (Shame on me).

Now I know it isn't funny to laugh about people dying because of this, but just the thought of someone succumbing to the very same thing they were reporting about, live... is just plain freaky.

No I'm going back again next week under the waiver program, but you can't do diddly on that program (i.e. extending your stay, etc).

I also doubt that Russia would be on the Visa Waiver scheme (I haven't checked the list)... maybe when they filled out their forms, did they tick (YES) to one of the silliest questions on the US Visa form (silly because I'd assume you wouldn't admit to it!)->

Do you seek to enter the United States to engage in export control violations, subversive or terrorist activities, or any other unlawful purpose?

    (YES) (NO)

Anyhow, lets hope they can get something sorted quickly... the US doesn't want to look like it is deliberately denying them entry into the US so that they lose the 'charges will be dropped if you testify', but the case pretty much requires them to be there.

With our NeXT systems, you could program in Objective C (being the staple diet), but you could also use C/C++ code as well if you wanted. It won't take to long to get used to (I've heard some peeps say that Objective C is more of a proper OO than C++, but I'm not taking any sides here!)... plus as a programmer, once you know the basics it is just a case of getting used to the semantics, syntax style and quirks of the different language you're learning. The reason they were so interested is that they have to take a laptop and docking bay with PCI adaptors so they can show customers any demos, yet with the Shuttle they're able to completely package the system and it works a charm. The bean counters were even more surprised at the cost of the system, they thought $2500, but it only cost £330 for the shuttle and the rest of the bits were already on site (although they are still sorting the Xenarc version).

I have a friend doing a Medical related degree at Edinburgh (not sure precisely which kind), and she said their compulsory module on autopsies wasn't initially fun (half the class didn't stay conscious long enough). But they are taught hands on experience from the very beginning.

Given the state of the British NHS (overworked, underfunded yadda yadda), I'm not sure how much it will affect the 'brain drain' in that they still could end up going overseas anyway.

The number of telemarketing calls went through the floor, mainly because most didn't want to go through the screening check. They get the odd call now and then, but mostly by those who do persevere with the screening system or those that have valid Caller ID tags.

Originally he did have the system completely rejecting calls without ID, but since the rest of the family live in England, there isn't any ID transmitted - so we couldn't get through for a while, until we got a call from him wondering why WE hadn't called!! DOH!
