    That was "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron". Common mistake. I had to work really hard to convince my friends that we were seeing an anime, and not the Madonna shitfest (Swept Away).

    50 movie tickets? A good LCD projector is around $5000. I guess if you're paying $100 a ticket, it's worth it to save up.

    Check out the games for the defunct PC-Engine and PC-FX systems. They had lots of anime-based 2D games.


    Flash Hiders was an amazing 2D anime fighting game.

    I used to be a huge fan of MD, and shortly after I got out of the medium, a new version of ATRAC came out. I think it allowed for MD-LP. Is this the efficient version of ATRAC mentioned in the article, because for years, ATRAC was heavily criticized in audio publications such as Stereophile.

    I'm a staunch Mac supporter and hardcore Mac user, but I completely agree with the parent post. As much as I would like to see Apple get the sales, it just doesn't make sense for a university to blow $2.4 million on all-new machines just to get away from Microsoft.

    A lot long-time Mac users refer to the computers by their codenames, e.g., Sawtooth, Yikes, Wall Street, Pismo, and so on.

    Other Mac users devise clever nicknames, such as TiBook and "speed hole Mac." The blue and white G3 is called a smurf tower.

    I loved Super Mario 3. I remember seeing that movie The Wizard and it showed how to get the warp whistle. Ah, the good old days.

    There is a resurgence of 2D games, sort of. Contra for PS2 is a good example.

    The Nintendo Entertainment System was released in Japan in 1983 as the Famicom.

    That's the PC Engine LT. It didn't weigh 20 pounds, and it cost around $800. Here's a pic.

    Also, the SuperGrafx was never released domestically. It had six games (seven if you count the hybrid). The console sold for around $400 and the games were about 9800 yen ($110 at the time).

    The PC-FX was essentially an NEC PC converted into a gaming console.

    Actually, we've had 10-digit dialing for years, not 11-digit. The 972/214/469/817 area codes are all metro so no 1- prefix is required.


    The Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex made the switch to 10-digit dialing in 1998, IIRC.

    This is true for the University of Texas at Austin. While their undergrad program is better than mediocre, it still isn't held in the same regard as Ivy League. Of course, here in Texas, a UT degree will get you really, really far. Anyway, UT has one of the best law schools in the country, and their engineering graduate program is held in high regard. UT is also home to the LBJ School of Public Affairs.

    ASP.NET pages (with the .aspx extension) and ASP pages (with the .asp extension) can exist on the same webserver, but you can't mix ASP and ASP.NET in the same page. ASP.NET doesn't support VBScript or JScript; you have to use a .NET language such as VB.NET or JScript.NET.

    OS X is not free. Darwin is, but you have to pay for the nice GUI and all that goes along with it.

    You mean Richard Feynman. He taught at CalTech and Cornell, IIRC. He worked on the Manhattan Project and won the Nobel Prize in physics. I read "Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman" and discovered that not only was Feynman an exceptional physicist, but also a funny writer and an insightful person. That's one of my favorite books.

    I don't remember if Feynman mentioned meeting Einstein in "Surely..." but he does talk about meeting Enrico Fermi and the infamous Klaus Fuchs.

    I thought the V10 in the Dodge Viper was aluminum. I know the LS1 V8 (found in the Corvette) is aluminum, and the Ferrari V8s and V12s are aluminum too.

    Who makes a 10L engine?

    In my Visual Basic and QuickBasic days, I used type declaration characters. $ was string, & was long, % was something else, ! was single, I can't remember the rest.

    This is the oldest argument known to civilized man. If you want a Mac, buy a Mac. If you want a PC, buy a PC. Cost doesn't matter when it comes to getting what you really want, or what you deserve.
