Now do the math, whats required for a 50% switch over? Calculate the energy required to build one engine + metals required.
If to swap 1% of all engines yearly requires 50% of all metal sources like zinc/silver/platinum etc... That will then cause a spike in demand, and a higher price rise.
Then calculate how many factories you need, is it 3 or 500 ? ok now, try and buy them... oh that requires 200billion$, now battle local unions, or environmentalists or how to get the materials to your factories, now if you factory requires 5megawatts to run, you have to find out if the local supplier can actually give it to you.
So 400m cars, = 4m yearly, good luck finding customers willing to part with 80 billion dollars. No one is going to replace a good car today, only bad old cars, but people with bad old cars have no money.

I bet if you did a file usage analysis, you would fine the OS files are used 100x more often than your.docs or other work files (avis).
Nothing wrong with 250gig in a laptop for work files, but it cannot hurt to have the primary os on a 16/32gig SSD card.
Any extra LARGE apps, can be install to the HD. At least the OS can be pretty fast, and your apps wont slow down with OS usage.
It all comes down to cost/usage smarts. Why waste 80% of a SSD being used rarely. Pay peanuts now, upgrade to 4x or 8x in 6months for the same price, dont pay top dollar today, just to be COOL.
What about the kid that had brain cancer, and they removed like 90% of his brain, but he was just as smart, zero reduction in ability.
Surely that prooves, size does not equal processing power, like gates does not equals MIPS in cpus.

1. use two small embedded or slim line PCs in one cabinet. 2. both tally data to be added to two different servers running different software. 3. if in doubt get IBM to do it, they helped the germans accurately in ww2.
im sure they designed the programs on paper first, so any logic that can be shown in big diagrams/paths, can be implemented in pascal/c/basic/perl/cobol even...
And unless it needs to react fast, it doesnt matter that it runs at.1mhz, it has plenty of time to send/get updates back to base, and receive calibrations for new burn times.
Most of the heavy calcs are done on earth, and what is sent to the probe are commanded/scripts to say, at time X, burn for Y secs.
Its starmapper doesnt need to get results in.1 second, it can afford to sit there taking 1minute to calculate its pos based on starmaps, then calc its real pos based on time of photo.
But yeah, simple code is best, fortran byte code or assem will fit nicely in small ram. Why not even make your own virtual machine any way.
