  14. Re:Games, Games, Games on Out Of The XBox · · Score: 0

Um, Japan has the second largest economy in the world, so I think it's kind of important. Breakdown goes something like US, Japan, rest of world. Granted, China's going to be reaching up there too soon (if it doesn't collapse, which I'm predicting it will sometime within the next 20 years, which is also when Japan will crash, coincidentally,) but if you can't get a good share in the number 2 economy of the world, you aren't going to be doing so hot. I don't care how many rednecks with their "Buy American!" attitudes there are, if you can't get support from Japan, and now also Korea, then you're going to be in trouble.
The problem with combining all of the economies of the EU together is that it ignores the fact that you have to localize all of the software. Translations have to be made perfectly into British English, French, Spanish (With Spanish dialect, not Latin American), Italian, German, etc. And it also ignores the fact that Western Europe is much more wealthy than the newer members of the EU.

  15. How does up'ping specs 'redefine' a console? on XBox 360 Redefining the Console? · · Score: 0

Consoles are always about increasing performance, just like how the SNES did to the NES. I don't really see anything that's revolutionary for the new XBox. If they came up with some new idea that's never been implemented before, rather than saying "Hey, look, we have a 256bit system, take that 128bit systems!" or something along those lines, then I suppose it could be redefining consoles. But as it is right now, the XBox and PS2 are both entertainment electronics as well, and so was the original Playstation. You can plug them into your TV or receiver, then play cd's and movies on them. It's like saying "We've included a new type of storage media in this Dell! Look at us, we're redefining computing because we have a flash hard drive!" If the XBox was fanless, it would be closer to redefining consoles, but here's how a new console could truly redefine the group:
Find a new way to interact with the player
As we have it now, we have keyboards, mice, joysticks, gamepads, dance pads, and light guns. Perhaps if there was some new way to have a gamer interact with the console (and don't say speech), then it would truly be revolutionary and redefining

Oh yeah, that'll fly over real well. Offices are already loud enough with people trying to talk over everyone else on the phone to talk to people, and not everyone is on the phone at the exact same time. Now imagine everyone trying to talk on their phone while talking to their computer (which would be how to communicate with the computer, instead of keyboard, mouse, etc), and having the computer single out YOUR voice from everyone around you, and singling out when you're talking to IT instead of someone on the phone or right next to you.
