You can do this with a wrt54g and the sveasoft firmware, too. I prefer that way, so you don't have to worry about another machine that sucks a lot of power lying about. IIRC, you can get the sveasoft firmware at alternate locations, just google for it. I broke down and bought it ($20/year), and got my money's worth. You might even be able to do it with the free wrt54g firmware, openwrt, but I've never tried it. This little box is extemely reliable, has very low power consumption, it's cheap and it's small. Plus, it does wireless (WPA, etc).
I've read this somewhere before, just not sure where it was. Thanks for the link. Wikipedia doesn't touch on it much, but I wonder if the book is still useful? Seems like a damn good idea the next time I lose/quit my job. Anyone know if it is good, or any alternatives?
No. I'm a libertarian voting american. I just happen to have some of their vernacular. I mainly replied because I glad to see that someone has the balls to not vote the "Lesser of two evils" way. We're practing insanity with our current system.
Constitution also takes a hit, IIRC. It's tough when all you have is intelligence and wisdom, unless, of course, you're outside; then Mr. Hawking can cast spells.
Why should not having a PHD stop me? You must be a blast to have as a friend. I've built/understood/engineered many things that I previously had no knowledge about - it's called curiosity - some of us thrive on it.
I don't think you're asking the right questions. Just because I may not be skilled enough to read it now doesn't mean I won't have the incentive to learn it when the data is available to me. Once the data is in public, I have no doubt that there will be some open source code available for reading it.
OHH GOD don't mention the bigfoots. I can't even come close to expressing my hatred of those drives. They were extremely loud, very unreliable, and *VERY* slow - 4200RPM. If you still do work on these computers, upgrade your customer to a 7200RPM, they will love you. IIRC, these drives were primarily used in Presarios.
Interestingly, if you read the story about the dude getting a taffic ticket, he said they inferred the "two way" streets because the one ways were clearly marked. It's the same way here. I'm so glad they have the hybrid mode, the sat./map worked well before for navigating, but I think this will take the cake.
I wonder if there are any streets incorrectly labled as one way, and how often the map (not sat.) portion gets update to reflect these changes. It doesn't really matter too much, although I hope changing a two way into a one way is pretty rare.
Great! Yet another application Apple completely mangles beyond recognition. Then they subsequently procrastinate on releasing security updates for it. Go ahead, have them enable the next hole, who needs timely updates anyway?
faster - yeah. For $200 I get a NAS device + (presumably) 5200RPM USB hard drive. Faster, "out of the box" ( yeah, that's not correct - i still have to hack it to install debian) vs. a mac mini w/ a 4200rpm drive.
more stable - I won't argue about the stability merits of short vs. tall - I don't think we'd get anywhere. I'm talking debian stable - you know. No crappy OSX break your OS/Conf file upgrades. No "Your dock preference file is corrupt so your os won't boot" issues...etc.
more flexible - 16,000 packages, almost guarenteed to work after an apt-get. I probably wouldn't be able to find many commercial debian ARM linux apps, though.
Warranty/hacking - Do you want to void the warranty on your $500 box, or your $99 one?
This is a bit ambigious - my apologies - it meant to read that I suspect the power draw for a (Mac Mini + 400GB USB drive) is more than it would be for a (Debian ARM box + 400GB USB drive).
That's about as useless as people arguing that god put the dinosaur bones in the earth to confuse us.

Yeah, I get it, but despite it seeming the same to you, inflation is generally a _bad_ thing.
You can say that again!
Unfortunately, the fees blockbuster, et. al. charges are going the opposite way...

This is arguably insightful.

I'm glad to see this. Don't let us (The people without 200k laying about) down by changing your mind.

I don't care if they think it would be political suicide. They lost my vote. They really should have the courage to vote for what's right.
Fuckin eh. All I have to say is thanks, and I'm with you.
Sit down, relax, drink a big glass of milk, then go fishing for the rest of the day. Consider doing this tomorrow too.
That's funny, that's what they said about windows back in the day.
What do you think you're doing, using pragmatism on /.? For gods sake man, think of fanbois!

Sweet, thanks, I didn't see the FAQ:)
If we donate, and they reach the amount, will the data be open to everyone?
That is absolutely critical, I will not donate unless I can see the data.

Stats for yesterday's hr2 robot slashdotting:6 496
http://www.nedstatbasic.net/s?tab=1&link=5&id=362
10% linux, 7.3 mac.
Yesterday during the peak of the article it was 60 xp, 20 linux, 10 win2k, 5 mac and other misc.
and it wastes too much space.
That's what I was thinking! It takes a whole damn galaxy!
