Q: Why doesn't Apple make the battery easily replaceable? Or use different batteries, like AA?
A: Because if they did either, the size of the batteries and/or the access panels and mechanisms required to access the battery would make the unit significantly larger than it is, likely by several millimeters in thickness at a minimum, and would also affect other dimensions, as well as weight. It was an engineering decision to use an integrated battery; if it were not integrated, the unit would not have the small, sleek form factor that makes it so attractive in the first place. Additionally, the iPod's battery is indeed replaceable, as has been discussed above.
What is your point? Are you saying they shouldn't try this because it might not help all smokers?
"but I don't see how it would help psychological addiction."
If this proves to be safe, then you can just sit back and watch what effect is.
I myself used to smoke, and think it probably was more of a psychological addiction because I didn't think it was that hard to quit! So put that in you pipe and smoke it!
I think a crucial aspect here is the tendency of Japanese competitors to work together on advancing new technologies. Japanese companies also have a history of actually HELPING each other in diffucult times, especially companies with a similar business. Obviously, this is in direct contrast to Microsoft, which has the kill-all-competition mentality.
Actually, in the US, alcohol is already sold in metric units.
The smallest size is 350ml. Some still call this a pint.
The next size is 750ml. Some still call this a fifth.
The largest size is 1.5L. And suprisingly, some still call this a half gallon.
I don't think the problem is Apple not providing a fix, or the user being able to fix it himself.
It's the fact that Apple KNEW the battery would die after 18 or so months, but DID NOT TELL THE CONSUMER!
That, combined with the fact that Apple's help lines were suggesting to people that they BUY A NEW IPOD instead of worrying about replacing the battery.
Also, it wasn't until MASS CONSUMER OUTRAGE that Apple took any steps to correct it.
Don't get me wrong, I love Apple computers and own 5 of them myself. But I think Apple really screwed up on this one.
I know people in this same situation, that have had Apple help line people tell them to buy a new iPod, and they are PISSED!
I wanted to get one, but not anymore.
I also wonder what Apple expects people to do with their old iPods. chuck 'em in the trash??? Thanks for the noxious chemicals leaking into my groundwater, Apple.
It is most likely because the Japanese start learning English at an early age. A lot of Japanese use English words mixed into their speech frequently, especially computer- and web-centric words. Also, all of text was not in Japanese.
Yes, Eight Maids-a-Milkin' for $41.20 seems very cheap. If you get them thru an agency, you'll have to pay for the whole day. They aren't going to send out Eight maids (trained in milking cows, no less) for just one hour. Maybe there's an automatic milking machine robot called 'Milkin' Maid' or something that you can rent for cheap.
At first this seemed interesting, but now it's stupid.
Maybe Microsoft should finish developing the products they already have on the market.

I appreciate your post of the article. I hate clicking on links. I think every first post should include the article. Fuck those haters.
Another example of someone being in such a tizzy to get a submission in, they didn't actually read the article first... You suck, rvr.
It sounds like a rip-off of ReBoot. That show was cool. This show will suck.
Looks like the same translation you get from dictionary.com
