"My eyeball guess is that each pixel is the size of Pennsylvania."
This is from the article: (right next to the link for the pictures)
"It is the most detailed global color portrait of Jupiter ever produced; the smallest visible features are ~ 60 km (37 miles) across."
So, your 'guess' is waaaaay off.
It's unbelievable that someone would submit an article WITHOUT ACTUALLY READING IT FIRST.
And, btw, there are pictures of sections of Jupiter with greater detail, this just happens to be the global picture with the finest detail. Also, the pictures have been somewhat manipulated and it could be argued that this is a computer generated image, using photographed textures. It's all in the article. pffffftt.
You're right, but it does explain why MORE comments are on the liberal side, because MORE people feel that way. Especially when you add the Democratic and Libertarians together. You've got a few million more liberals than conservatives. It's very simple math, DUH
Slashdot is made up of INDIVIDUALSposting their opinions, not representatives of groups of opinion holders. If it were we would all call it stupid.
So when you sit there and go "GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE ALL THESE FUCKING LIBERALS" Just think about the past presidential election and you will realize that there are more voting liberals than voting conservatives.
1) It makes the buying of votes incredibly easy: Thanks for your unmarked ballot; here's $5.
You have to sign the outer envelope, which is checked against your signature when you registered. Just like you have to sign your name when you go vote at a polling place.
2) It makes control of a wife's voting incredibly easy for an abusive husband: OK, this is the way I'm going to mark your ballot.
Not only should she NOT sign the ballot, she SHOULD sign the divorce papers and the restraining order.
ballots being "lost" in the mail
I've never had anything lost in the mail in at least 2 decades. You can also hand deliver it, send it registered, or various other methods if you're THAT PARANOID.
At least educate yourself about the procedure before making such ignorant (and cowardly) statements.
I want to tell everyone the joys of the ABSENTEE BALLOT !!!
I live in Washington State, USA.
Almost a month before election time, for every election, I recieve my ballot and a booklet outlining each candidate (usually statements by them) and propositions or initiatives or whatever is on the ballot. I have plenty of time to think about the issues and look at the ballot. The only extra cost is the stamp I have to put on the included return envelope. (It would cost me 4 times as much to take a bus to the polling place) And there is a paper trail.
I originally requested it when I actually was going to be out of town. But have been 'enrolled' since and get an ABSENTEE BALLOT for every election. I love voting at my dining room table!
Also, IMHO...
I don't even care if the ballot is secret and I will freely tell anyone who asks who and what I vote for. (BUSH admin has set US back soooo much in the last 2 years!) I think that every social security number should have a record of voting. That way, you could go online and check that your vote is registered the way you want it to be. You could even go back and change your vote before the election was over. You should also get a tax break for voting, or I suppose, a tax penalty for not voting.
I've heard if you put two crabs in a bucket, neither one can get out as they will constantly pull the other one down in an effort to climb over.
Also, the best crab I ever had was broiled alive in an oven. You knew they were done when you heard them stop moving around in the oven! They were so good and juicy! An old egyptian woman cooked them for us. She said boiling them is stupid because you boil out all the flavor.
What's wrong with that is that it costs over $70,000 a year per inmate of tax payer money to keep someone in jail who had a bag of pot of some other stupid thing.
Jail should not serve as 'punishment.' Jails should be there to keep dangerous poeple (muderers, rapists, etc.) away from us. Other criminals (drugs, shoplifters, white collar, etc.) (most people in jail are drug related, btw) should have to repay society by picking up garbage, or washing police cars or something, AND have to take care of themselves, too. Having to work for the state every weekend for a year for no pay would be a good deterrent AND help our aching budgets.
At least the California Schools won't need to buy the already free MS software and can spend their vouchers on something else.
I also imagine the list of people who decide where those school vouchers are spent is relatively short compared to the list of people who were violated by the anti-trust actions when they bought a PC.
In my opinion, people who qualify should recieve CA$H, not coupons, and unclaimed CA$H should be given, as CA$H, to the schools.
I grew in poor-ass South Georgia and we had a bunch of Macs in our school. I guess they heard about the discount Apple gives to schools. I'm sorry your school administrators were a bunch of morons.
Hello,Previously you had requested some information online in regards to potentially earning additional income from home. Our company Travelogia(one of the fastest growing companies in North America) has...[bulk edited out - you get the idea]... earning additional income, I will not waste your time. it was from "abeulicnta@ebay.com" <ihmribcyph@sina.com> which is messed up because it's like a fake email within a fake email. Of course, it was formatted the same way you see here, no correct breaks or anything. Anyway, I go look up the website name on register.com's WHOIS feature. (Note: I had to hit refresh several times before I got more than a 'timeout')
Well, this is what I got! (in the form of a gif image, go figure)

So I called him, apparently at his house, judging by the unceremonious, 'yeah this is Robert' answer. I confirmed it was Robert Holman and then proceeded to tell him I did not appreaciate his SPAM and he needed to at least put an opt out and use his real email address on the return. He stammered as he tried to tell me he could prove I 'opted-in' which is total bullshit. I told him if I got any more mail from him I was going to sue him.
So, my fellow SPAM-hating brethren and sistren, use WHOIS on register.com to fight back at these jerks.
I also used WHOIS to find out who was sending me bogus eBay login screens.
Yeah, it's too bad they can't keep the rapists and muderers IN jail because they're so full of pot and/or crack smokers.

It's funny because it's true.
I saw an ad today for a DVD recorder that works like a VHS recorder. I wonder if one could transfer with that device. It was Panasonic, i think.
