I often see swarms of kids sitting in my backyard beating off to the naughtiness streaming through my unsecured WiFi.. Yup.. Its a really big problem.
So what then - ban every cafe from having wireless? Every airport? It could all be used by the children, who nobody, quite clearly, is thinking about.
Agreed. At least from my gaming presepctive, which is simulation and historical games it just gets better and better. Simulations get more and more realistic as computer power increases, and historical games get more and more detailed. I would never trade my current flight sim favourite IL-2 versus European Air War from 1998, or Chuck Yeagers Air Combat from 94. Il2 is superb in terms of flight modelling, realism and the sheer number of aircraft modelled. EAW pales in comparison. Historical games are similar - Fields of Battle, my favorite back in 95 or so, is a mere shadow of the historical battles games of today, like Take Command: Manassas and such. Silent Hunter III is miles ahead Aces of the Deep as a submarine simulator as well. Not just better graphics, sounds and the like, but game companies learn from their predecesors and make better games, including more realism.
The only games of old I have yet to find a better version of is the UFO/XCOM series - that is the only old game I still play relatively often on DOSBox.
What versions of Opera has your wife been using? Crashing and IE only websites are rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Since I upgraded to Opera 8 six months or so ago I can't realy recall a single site that didnt work, and it crashes maybe once or twice a month. Opera 7 was much worse in this area otuhg so maybe an upgrade if she is/was using an older version.
And you can have adblock in Opera as well, it is very easy to set up. The solution I used required that I manually added ad-servers tough, so it is less user friendly than FF's Adblock - but since everything else in Opera is superior and I dont use Adblock anyways(just tried it to see if it worked) Opera is a clear cut choice.
You raise valid points. Opera takes a bit of time getting used to. The annoying features are very simple to turn off tough, but of course you have to know about it and when trying a new app many people(me included) do not have the patience to fiddle around to much:)
Firefox out of the box is cleaner than Opera, but Opera has all the advanced features already there - and they work better and are much more easily managable.
I really think everybody should try Opera for at least a week, and visit the various tips sites listen on myopera.com - you'll soon discover Opera simply is the best browser experience around.
I had the same thoughts. I to bought Opera a couple of years ago and I would be devastated if for some reason Opera went bankrupt over this, but the guys at Opera HQ know what they are doing, have known for ten years - so I am sure the risk of Opera crashing because of this is miniscule.
What? Why on earth would Opera sell out to MS? Or why, for that matter would MS want to by Opera?
I just dont get why people keep using Firefox because its Open Source, as it is slightly inferior in most areas compared to Opera( on the Windows platform, dont use the linux client much).
For me the choice is very easy. Opera is superior and Opera Software have been around for ten years supporting their customers, making great inovations and is the vanguard of browser design.
I am a open source fan, i try to use open source software whenever I can, but Opera has done so much and is so commited to opening the web I really couldnt care less that it is closed source.
I dont understand this fascination with blocking ads many Firefox users keep bringing up as a bad point of Opera. Blocking ads is the best way to make sure more and more websites have to go pay-only or disappear.
Besides - the reason Opera does not include a adblock is because it was itself supported by ads. Now that Opera is free this might very well change, but appart from blocking Flash animations(very easy to do in Opera) i for one will not block ads. Sometimes I see something worthwhile and often i click an ad or two on pages I regularly visit, just to contribute a bit to the income of the site.
Well, the site I use to get my poker fix, Ladbrokes.com, claim they are regularery auditet by a independent audit firm. I havent bothered to check if this is true but the process is described in detail so I assume it is:)
And why would one burn Itunes music to a CD and then encode it with FLAC? The music is already crippled by the AAC compression, so applying a lossless compression to the music seems like a excersise of futility.
In Norway the second largest DSL ISP give me a 8Mb down/1Mb up for about 70$ per motnh, altough the prices drop all the time, so it's finally getting quite good. Even rural areas now usually have access to 4/.75 lines at reasonable rates. And now ADSL2 is picking up speed as well(pun maybe intended if funny).
That being said only 90% of the population currently has DSL coverage, and the last 10% might be in for a long wait unless the government steps up and makes DSL coverage mandatory.
And we have finally gotten 3G here too so all is well i suppose:) Altough who really needs 3G? I'm never away from a computer long enough for cell phone webaccess to become a necessity, altough if need be GPRS give me the ability to do what I need for free.
You really dont know much about WW2 or european history at all do you?
"When WWI broke out people in Europe had street dances in celebration. Even today when mention WWI to someone from Europe they tell me the world needed that war."
Uhm... no... There was displays of patriotism of course - but europeans really did not want another war. The previous century had been constant warfare - people were fed up.
"France was allies with other countires that Germany ran over previously. They had treaties saying they would go to war with Germany, yet they did nothing as those countries fell."
Uh - yeah they were allied with Poland(and only Poland) and declared war two days after the German invasion. The French did not, however have the military will nor manpower to launch an invasion of Germany, so they waited for the Germans to attack them in the hope of defeating the Germans in a similar fashion as in WWI.
It simply was not possible to raise the levels of manpower and training to German levels in just a few months. (Indeed it took the US two years and they had the luxury of no direct threats to their industry)
"We see France standing in the way, as if they want us to wait until things are really bad, and then sacrifice 10,000 soldiers per month, instead of ~ 1000/year now. Seems like a bad deal to me."
What are you talking about? The french along with many others voiced a very real concern about the US going unilaterarly to war based on what has later been showed to be lies.
There were no weapons of mass destruction. Bush and his cronies lied! Ok - i am not saying the Iraq invasion wasnt a good thing, I believe it will turn out to be a very stable and democratic country in a few years - but I understand that there was major concern among most nations about the way this war was steamrolled through.
Iraq had nothing to do with 911 - even Bush admits as much - so all those critical to this war was proved RIGHT... So stop bashing the french already (And no i am not french:)
That is just plain wrong. The French only commited a part of their troops to the maginot line- the vast majority, some 60 divisions, were held on the Belgian border where it was assumed the German thrust would come. (And indeed this was the German plan right up to the invasion date)
So no - the french did not pig-headedly refuse to face facts. They knew the Maginot Line would be flanked - its purpose was to deny the Germans direct access to the French interior.
Indeed the French defencive plan was very sound according to the information available at that time.
In Norway the leading ISP has started with a similar scheme. They do passive searches on traffic from customers - if anything gets flagged as viral or malicious they will cut access to sending email, or even to transmit data at all. Then a email is sent to the customer explaining the problem and he can then call Tech Support to get it fixed.
This is mostly considered a benefit since it helps the customer in keeping his PC operational. My father lost access to sending mail for a couple of days after getting flagged for spreading virii - in his case it was a false alert and they quickly lifted the ban. So it isnt a failproof system but its a first step.
Of course if my ISP did something similar I'd be outraged:)
I just have to nitpick on your calculations there:) The maximum prison sentence in Norway(where I guess this crime would be deemed to have been commited) is 21 years imprisonment.
My online bank has a similar idea. Whenever I request a new certificate to install on a computer they send a sms to my cell phone. That way I get a unique password whenever I install a certifiacte. This means anybody who wants to enter my bank account must either have access to my cell phone or a computer with my certificate installed(which is my home computer) - in addition to guessing/cracking my PIN of course.
This extra layer of security is non-obtrusive and convenient, and it doesnt require me to remember an extra password. It could be a pain if you constantly use public terminals and only install one-session certifiactes, but I doubt many people do that with their bank account.
All the nordic countries(I'm from Norway myself) have similar fair use laws. But that doesnt stop the record companies selling this crap. Things are happening tough, as more and more people are boycotting DRM "cd's".
I believe that the record companies will experience a backlash as more and more people get their musical experience lessend, and their players damaged...

Jeeeeez man let it go... It was funny... stop being a pompous ass about it.

He he he How many where there in all? 10? Hilarious :)
Lol.... And Valen was his Naaaaame-O! By the by, anybody else find Zathras to be the funniest time-travelling alien ever?
Thats correct. Galen was the techno mage...
Which lead me to fear this film will be more Crusader than Babylon5, and I for one did not really find the whole Crusader spinn-off that great.
It became to much of a Star Trek clone.....(One ship travelling through space encountering weird aliens...)
Wheres the fun in that? B5 was all about grand campaign and universe-spanning alliances.
BTW. The First B5 movie is really great(The one dealing with Earth-Minbari War). The other two less so.
Acctually, this is fixed in 7.6.

Well, it'll work - but in the eyes of MS you're still a pirate... Just as they also label people who own XP but use keygens pirates...
