Is that Dov Moran of M-Systems is a blithering idiot. To shoot off your mouth like that on a Microsoft deal has to be like pissing on the third rail. Especially after the SCO shit this morning.
I predict he will be looking for a new job tomorrow.
I am a small company and I need 500 cables made once in awhile. Do you know how many ways 500 cables can be fucked up? I've got a pretty good idea. I already have a cheap Pakistani cable builder and a cheap Asian board builder. They screw up once in awhile, but they fix their screwups real fast as their house payments depend on keeping me happy.
I would not trust my 500 cables to a couple of kids that have nothing other than beer money to loose.
If you have too many laws for the Internet, you'll stiffle its development and waste a needless amount of society's resources.
Just how does banning spyware stiffle development? Where do you draw the line? And the line does have to be drawn somewhere. As far as I'm concerned, the line is my hard drive. Muck with it without my permission and you've crossed the line.
It's illegal to personally use someone's machine without their consent. It doesn't take a huge jump of logic to see that launching a program to use their machine without their consent should be illegal as well.
There's hundreds of them out there, but only a few practical ones in widespread use. I predict that this one is too expensive for general use. There are already several locks that are exceedingly difficult to pick or create an unauthorized copy. Medico for example. Very difficult to pick and very tight control over blanks.
Ummm, if that is the case we are in trouble, cause the bill of rights hasn't squished the patriot act yet, and it doesn't seem too likely anytime soon.
Give it time. Supreme Court decisions on constitutional issues take years to resolve. The day will come...
Excellent answer. It would get you an A+ in 6th grade Civics. Unfortunately, you show appalling ignorance of today's reality. I suggest you put away your Civics book and do some reading.
I vote and I can't help the fact that scumbags like Nixon, Clinton, Bush and Bush get elected. I can't.
On the other hand, I see where Gideon got the right to an attorney even though he couldn't afford one, Roe (actually Norma McCorvey) was given the right to have a safe and legal abortion, and Miranda had to understand his rights before what he said could be used against him.
These are cornerstone decisions protecting US liberty that the fsking politicians didn't have a thing to do with.
Voting is good, voting is proper, but the bottom line is that we the people have very little power in chosing honest and wise politicians.
The reason that California now has an action movie hero for a governer is because in the last election we had to choose between two major slimeballs and the people here were ready to try anything other than another career politician.
I wished to God that you were right and that we could just vote in a good government. The reality is that we can't. The only thing that keeps the government in check is the Bill of Rights.
Just cause you came from a repressive government doesn't make you an authority on the US values of liberty. You certainly may love liberty here in the US, but don't tell me that you're qualified to speak authoritatively on the subject.
Our concept of liberty is a somewhat subtle and contradictary thing. It involves tolerance of low-level civil disobediance, basic distrust of all forms of government and law enforcement, and most of all, the understanding that the only true guarantee to liberty is in the Bill of Rights and it's fair interpretation by the courts.
Congress doesn't give us freedom, Viet Dinh's law doesn't give us freedom. The FBI surely doesn't give us freedom. The only thing that gives Americans freedom is the Bill of Rights. Until you understand that, don't lecture me on freedom and American values.
And you obviously missed the whole point of the outrage against the Patriot's act, and the sick irony of a Vietnam refugee having authored it.
I don't know anything about your situation. Maybe you do understand the US culture and love of freedom, but to me, the Partriot act is as ironic as the old joke "we had to destroy the village in order to save it". Go home and read "A bright and Shining Lie" then lecture me about Vietnamese and their understanding of American liberty.
When is the government going to learn to leave the internet alone. I am so fsking tired of little leaching taxes on everything. Theres no guarantee that everone gets 911. Leave us alone.
It's still widely used in embedded systems and there's at least one version (freedos) that's open source. There's lots of FAT disk driver code around and acually getting something to work is not that hard.
My favorite books are:
DOS Technical Reference by IBM
DOS Internals by Chappell
Dissecting DOS by Podanoffsky (I believe he wrote a DOS as well)

Or was this just covered last night?
Versign sues ICANN over the right to reserve .mars TLD names.

I was working field service for a minicomputer company. I was beeped on my pager then when I called in, I was told I was laid off.
Publicize it on Slashdot.

About civil liberties is like asking Jack Valenti about fair use.

Very bad. Now go up to your room and play.
I hated it. A fluffy piece of nonsense suitable for techie posers only. I got about halfway and I couldn't stand it anymore.
After Michael leaves for the day.
The cell could produce 1 kilowatt of power, nearly enough for an average home.
That's about enough to power all the wall-warts in my house.
Right here
To ask my wife for menage a trois.

Agreed. It's been a bitch of a day for a karma whore.
