    Maybe they actually stopped to think for a nanosecond and realised that some image rollovers and other animations may involve some logic depending on the state
    of the page or one of its components. The last time I looked CSS wasn't much good on complex boolean logic. Unless you know better of course...

    Slackware also has code in its rc. scripts to run any SysV init scripts it finds , it just doesn't use them as a default init method.

    SO what. HOw many TVs (that dont' cost $$$$$$) have progressive scan? Not many and certainly not the portable sets that most kids will play
    these consoles on anyway.

    What I meant was there will always be the potential of some risk in any activity. This should not lead to the restriction or even removal
    of peoples rights, in this context of being able to driving a car. If that is the only solution then accepting the risk IMO is the best option.
    If you're one of these people who wants to live in a cotton wool nanny state then fine , but most people don't.

    They're interlaced. That means you get half of each frame in each scan which in reality works out at 30/25 fps.

    Accidents happen. Using that logic no one would be allowed to do anything, even riding a bicycle can cause injury to you or someone else. Life has risks, deal with it.

    That was terrorists. Theres a slight difference between grassing on someone who's blown up a busload of kids and someone who may have
    broken the speed limit by 5mph or have a negative view of the current government for example.

    WHat exactly is the point of creating games that do more than 30fps? Remember this is a console that PLUGS INTO A TV! There is NO POINT
    in writing a game that does 60fps if no one is going to see 50% of the frames. Far better to use the processing power to do the AI or phyics
    calculations.

    Yes a wi-fi network would be nice, but hardly essential. Lets face it , as they say the real use is for car control, which as we know is a
    euphamism for population control. Obviously the powers that be have decided that controlling a car is too dangerous a task for adults to be left with and must be relegated to a computer controlled government
    network. Well no thank you! If I wanted to live in this sort of country I'd have gone to live in the old East Germany which modern britain is fast beginning to resemble. how long before we have
    government schemes for informants?

    I can't read into the minds of the original logo designers but I imagine the design was supposed to be a lighthearted play on the word "daemon",
    NOT devil. Perhaps people should get their heads out of their politically correct backsides and get a life instead of worrying about this sort of thing.
    What next , will TV and film producers start self censoring anything with ANY type of POTENTIALLY negative religious artifacts or icons? Or perhaps rock bands should stop using
    devils etc in their logos? What the hell is the matter with people these days??

    You're forgetting , this is Slashdot. Anything that is technological and overcomplex for what it does must by definition be a Good Thing in the minds
    of all the well off teenager trust funders and 20-somethings with large amounts of disposable income who frequent this place. They all forget that
    a large amount of people simply don't give a rats arse about technology at all and don't get a kick out of having to boot up a PC (if they even own one) and fuck about with device
    drivers , memory cards, USB cables and all that assorted crap that technogeeks get off on , just to see their friggin pictures. Oh , not to mention
    having to buy a printer to print them out and all the setting up that requires. When they're a bit older then maybe they'll understand my point but I'm notholding my breath.

    Your average homemaker WANTED the spouse to be their and besides, they make up for their cost in other ways. I doubtthe average NZ taxpayer wants
    to fund a bunch of reloading islanders who wanted the good bits of independence (ie doing what you please) but not the bad bits (ie having to fund yourselves).

    ANy realtime control system that requires fast reactions at exactly the right moment hundreds or thousands of times a second
    will require assembly code to do the I/O. You can't rely on interrupts and some fat ISR written in a high level language to suffice. And that sort of software accounts for a lot of systems.

    I was a bit surprised by this quote in the article:

    I can only assume from this that he has never done or known anyone who has done any realtime programming. If you're going to write something
    like a car engine management system performance is the ONLY critiria, hence a lot of these sorts of systems are still hand coded in assembler , never
    mind C.

    People , give the broadcasting fantasies a miss. Just because you've got some cheap PC that does streaming audio down ADSL line to 3 people and
    a dog does NOT mean you're running a radio stations. Radio stations do NOT require people to boot up a PC , connect to the internet and start up an
    application program before they can be listened to. Radio stations "broadcast". The clue's in the last word. So stop pretending to everyone else oh here that you're some hot, l337 king of the airwaves. You ain't.
