You're right that the tape is a bad idea. If someone does try it though, at least put a balancing slice on the opposite side of the disc. You don't know strange and loud until a CD EXPLODES in your CDROM drive. I've seen the remaining disc after an explosion, and sand almost has bigger pieces than some of what's left.

Also in describing the Sony Rootkit problem it's good to mention that the disks are "infected with DRM". The person won't know what DRM is, but it helps to associate it with a bad word like "infection". And in the case of the Sony CDs, it's not overhyping the facts either, so your conscience can remain clear.

Bottom line is, "these discs are designed to infect a computer with DRM, which breaks Windows, and lets Sony and viruses take over your computer."

Yes, more than you can count too. You have to count the Bads witth the Goods. The Good lasts only hours when you first enjoy the system with the kid(s). After that it turns into one more thing to pry them away from to sit down to supper, or to kick them outside away from the TV. You could be hurting your child's healthy by buying them an addictive game system, and you'll certainly hurt their academics in some form, although to what degree is determined by the kid's willpower to do work to avoid having bad grades, and the parent's wisdom about when it's time to take the TV away so homework gets done.

So the cost is $640C minimum for two kids to play, and poorer health and worse grades. Who WOULDN'T want one???!

Where are all these people that have $500C for a game system with no games? Do they have no other forms of entertainment that they must buy a bleeding edge Microsoft game console? Might I remind them politely that they can get a computer for the same price, and it can do games and everything else the XBox 360 can do, and not be locked into Microsoft only Xbox 360 games and software?

Why not buy an XBox original and get oodles of games for it if you don't already have a system. You get way more entertainment bang for your buck. I guess keeping up with the Joneses is more important these days than it's ever been in the past?

The media coverage this thing is geting makes me nearly sick. It's on the radio, the TV, and in print. I've only heard one reviewer say they wouldn't buy their kids the system because it's going to be at least $150 less in 6 months. Don't these parents realize that their heating bills are going to be about 50% more this year?

It's a puff show, and should stick to what it knows best:
crime mystery and bikinis. Any thing more and it's just silly, because it doesn't have a foundation of fact to stand on and no one takes it seriously anyway. To suddenly try and have a moral, is satirizing the moral they try to give.

The problem is parents who buy a game that's unsuitable for their mentally challenged or disturbed children. They wouldn't buy them beer or let them drive at 12, why would they buy them something like GTA?

Online dating is no more risky than dating in the real world if you're cautious and remember that there are normal people out there too trying it instead of the usual bar scene that geeks tend to not dig much. Don't spend what you can't afford to lose.

That being said though, I'm pissed off at Yahoo now, since I signed up for a month to try it out and was possibly scammed since someone had "messaged" me before I signed up, but never messaged after I contacted them back. Not even a note to blow me off, which I found strange, but figured she'd found someone else or my reply wasn't interesting. While I accepted that my shortlived subscription was just a Blind Date that was a bit expensive and failed, now I feel victimized too. There's no way to know if she was a Yahoo shill, or just some woman that didn't find me interesting. Either way it's not a happy outcome. There can't be too many happy online daters out there in cyberland today upon hearing this news.
