  1. What you need to do is... on Great Small Business Idea for Linux · · Score: 3

You need to sell the Linux integration by offering new capabilites along with the integration. Simply taking the place or working with NT in not that impressive, even though their costs goes down.

You need to really analyze their setup and see where the weak points are. Then when you actually do install Linux, fix those weak points. Point them out to who you are working for.

Getting more for nothing is better than getting the same for nothing (plus cost of integration).

Come on, Red Hat for servers, and Caldera for newbies...get real.

We all know that all Linux distrbutions are not that far apart, and that I can make Caldera just as good a server as Red Hat with just a few downloads.

Considering that fact, Caldera seems the better option since it is much harder to reproduce Caldera's ease of install under Red Hat.

Linux is Linux, no matter what distribution you have. Sure one distro or another might have different built in tools, but they are all basically the same. Most of those tools can be downloaded anyway, if you want to use another one.

My point is that Linux distributions should not be labeled only for certain users.

I did an FTP install of FreeBSD, and the process was as smooth as silk. I was very suprised! I could not believe I spent dozens of hours with Linux, and then I was farther ahead with FreeBSD in only a few.

For one reason for another, I had to loose my FreeBSD partitions, and now I kind of miss it. I see there is a new version out, 3.3, and I will probably give it a try when I get time.

As for Linux, it needs some more time in the oven, but that is not a bad thing. The time is not right for Linux now, but next year I believe Linux will realy take off, and the BSDs will probably tag along with it.

This article has made me see AMD in a new light, and I now finally see what they are trying to do, and it is very respectable.

The sad thing is that Intel is smart enough to not be too far behind, if behind at all. AMD is in for the fight of its life with their Athlon going against Intel's best.
