Right, but even though you can keep that package, it may not be appropriate for other machines on your network. That was the point I was trying to make. You face installing it from Apple on many machines instead of downloading it once and deploying it enterprise-wide.
It does check automatically, but it doesn't install automatically.
Also, you have to worry about: - processor differences (software updates are not universal) - Depening on what you're updating from, what you download on one machine might not run on another. When in doubt, run the "combo" update.
Apple does not have a chronological list of software updates release, because not all updates apply to all customers. 99% of the updates are shown to you if you need them. The other 1% you have to go hunt down.
In the last month or two, the Austin American-Statesman has gotten better. It used to have very narrow columns which made very poor use of space (side to side) on my landscape-oriented PowerBook and desktop LCDs. The column was very newspaper like-around 2 inches wide. Now it's about tripled. There are still ads crammed in, including a new, overlay style (usually featuring a road-runner, sprinting across my screen).
That's pretty annoying, but they made it easy to close. I agree with the "use printer friendly version" comment to avoid ads (on sites where that's available). I'm surprised more folks haven't made the connection.

Don't any "Apple apologists" use Safari, so any changes would not benefit them? Or are we assuming that Apple apologists aren't necessarily Apple (Safari) users?
I think you're missing the main point of Spotlight. It's not type-ahead searching. The 10.3 Finder introduced that.
1. It's system-wide, so it's available in every app. 2. It searches content and metadata that has never before been indexed.
You can quickly search for documents by their color space, bits per sample, aperture, pixel dimensions, author, media length, codec, copyright (about 200 different pieces of metadata in all).
I thought surely that space was misplaced.
You laugh, but the division of Apple that produced the Newton and Pippin was called "Personal Interactive Electronics" or PIE for short.
Words bad.
Numbers good.

I've got a bad feeling about this.
Would that be "smoke-colored glasses"?

I have some extra spam that I'll mail to you.
So, you're basically saying that the planet needs a backup strategy?
I think you need to be smart enough to get a majority of people to elect you. Clearly intelligence isn't the only criterion.
Like a Sub-Etha Sens-O-Matic(TM)?
Since you're so much smarter, it should be easy for you to figure out how to get elected and put your medulla where your mouth is.
I for one welcome our graphic monopolist overlords!
Macrodobe Media anyone?
I meant that it's a difference in Tiger from Panther, not from XP.
Yeah, you'll have to wait until Mac OS 8 comes out to get that feature.
Oh wait....

I think there is a whole page on this feature if you'd like to know more.
