  1. Re:Scavenging relevance on Treo 650 Hacked: Dial-Up Networking via Bluetooth · · Score: 1

I have it from sprint. It's like any other palm device, not perfect - but you learn how to work around it. If you find the phone resetting, just remove the last stuff you installed. I sync everyday at home, and at work - so it's not a big deal for me.

What I love about my treo 650
camera phone & video phone (good for caller ID, and great shots of friends boobs - I don't argue, I just enjoy)
    NES, GG, PCE, etc. EMULATORS
mp3, avi, mpeg, divx, etc playback
converter - if you have a palm, you need this app
    mRing (mp3 ringtones)
Bluetooth - great in a movie theatre before the show - someone always has a BT phone close by.

Modem speed is ok, good enough to VNC to my home box when I need to or just get bored.

On an average day - I play some NES games, chat on AIM (verichat), listen to mp3's, VNC home to check downloads, check email, check www.myspace.com for new messages, and I think that's it.

I also recommend picking up a penstylus

Perhaps we should put this on the list under "Duke Nukem Forever"?

I upgraded my existing machine with a GF FX5950 - mostly so I could play with this game. But with the leaked art of Quake IV and the impending release (eventually) of Doom III and HL2, I'm already saving to build a machine just for gaming. Quad Raptors in Raid-0 with a motherboard full of ram, at 26 years old - this is likely to be the last time I can justify dropping a few grand on building a machine. I play games less and less now, due to work, and friends. Still I keep buying tech toys - rarely for a true need, mostly for the compulsory instinct to buy new toys.

I don't go out to eat, I'd rather cook at home - it's healthier and leaves more money for toys. I'm an IT guy, and frankly I love my job - don't really feel the need for a vacation very often (and I have over 2 weeks vacation left over from last year to prove this), even when it's busy and I put in the occasional 24 hour shift - I don't really mind - just need sleep. My social life and sleep patterns have never been any good, and I usually sleep between 2am and 7am. It's a habit I started back in the early 90's while dialup BBS's kept me up all night. My friends think I'm crazy for opting to spend my nights at home online and alone - instead of out at the bar or club. But for me, I'd rather read a book, watch some TV, and run on the treadmill. I'd rather work under the hood of a car with my friends then sit on the couch or in some bar watching sports. I find little in common with the average people I meet at bars and clubs. I've got a string of short relationships behind me, and I'm just not in the mood for more of the same. My money is saved for tech toys, and the occasional roadtrip/vacation with friends.

Does this sound familiar to anyone else?

Iomega Clik! Drive: In 1999, just as recordable CDs started getting really cheap and popular, Iomega released its own proprietary way to write nearly 40 gigabytes of data to a removable disk. Hyped as both a replacement for the floppy, and a portable storage device for Digital Cameras, it was just too expensive to compete with either CDR or flash memory. The blanks alone cost around $10. Worse, the Clik drive was doomed by a problem with Iomega's popular Zip drives. Those devices had an annoying habit of spectacularly failing - taking a user's data along to the grave, as well. Before failing, the drives emitted an ominous clicking noise, quickly dubbed the "Click of Death." The Clik! drive didn't have the Click of Death, but it quickly followed the Zip drive into hell. Yep, this guy just showed us what an I D 10 t he can be. Then again, I've made the mistake of saying my first computer a IBM Model 55sx had a 30GB HD instead of a 30MB HD.
