There's a lot more false positives than you think. Gmail seems to block about every shared ip address in existance. That means a lot of legitimate email doesn't even make it to your spam box.
If you're doing a opengl game, you have to access the usual non-portable apis (application startup/shutdown, mutlitouch, etc) - but that only accounts less than 10% of the code. Sony and co. will have the equivilant (non-portable) apis on their consoles.
Of the 4 Apple is the most cross platform friendly. It supports OpenGL ES, c++ and OpenAL. Sony and Nintendo have c++ and a api similiar to OpenGL ES. Microsoft just has c++.
There's a huge flaw in that Arstechnica artical: they are using Safari to benchmark. Who's to say that Safari itself hasn't been optimised for the iPad? They should have tested using a custom benchmark app.

> Apple didn't ban Flash, they banned anything that wasn't written specifically for their platform. They haven't banned c++ or OpenGL, which are both cross platform. For instance, Airplay SDK is a cross platform c++ library and that's not effected by the new rules.
> Photoshop vs GIMP = No contest If you're talking about earlier versions of Photoshop, then I agree - but have you seen what a bloated pig the latest Photoshop has become? I tried the demo and there's a noticable lag drawing brush strokes, effectively making it useless as a painting tool.
Maybe you should try RTFA: "Reportedly, a Pentagon document stated that five of the bomb's six safety mechanisms had failed; "only a single switch" prevented the nuclear detonation of this 24 megaton device."
> The GPU acceleration kicks in when you go near font smoothing, SVG support, video rendering, etc. Well really, I imagine all rendering is done by the GPU, not just parts of it.
Has anyone actually RTFA? It's quite funny, because they are saying that the reason IE9 can't be released on XP is becuase of hardware acceleration - meaning it's using the GPU for rendering - and hence is much faster, and then they show a pretty bargraph showing how much faster it is than ie8 at *javascript* benchmarks. Do they really think the javascript code is being run on the GPU? Of coarse not, it's faster because it's been re-written - the old ie8 javascript engine was basically a pile of poo.
> If you are running Windows, you are already implicitly agreeing to trust MS, so why not trust their AV program? Obviously, because he's not stupid. Most people run Windows because they don't have any other choice, not because the trust MS. MS are makers of IE and Outlook, that's enough good reason not to trust their other products.
Just out of curosity I tried Comodo. It's incompatible with ZoneAlarm and wants me to uninstall it. What crap is this? All other anti-viruses work fine with ZoneAlarm. Well, no thanks. I'd rather run without an anti-virus than without a firewall.
Hmm, there was another episode where they said that the internet was kept in Big Ben and guarded by the "Internet Elders"

No need for that. They already have a French distributor:

In fact they have several dozen distributers around the world.
That was true until the subprime mortgage fiasco
Whereas, if this was American they would have used the key catch phrase "it'll save lives"

Are they going to be kicked out too? I heard they had a meeting with Apple to clarify the position, but heard nothing since.

Tell that to the anti-virus companies, all of which identify cracks as viruses.

>Exactly. I can't understand any of this:

What I can't understand is how did they inflate Melbourne Cricket Ground?

> Yes, iTunes for Windows is a sub-standard app... for the Windows platform.
Actually, it's not only iTunes - they seem unable to make anything for the Windows platform which isn't bloated and sucky.
You can write your app using c++, OpenGL and OpenAL. All those are cross platform. Just need objective c for the iphone specific api calls.
Maybe you should try RTFA:
"Reportedly, a Pentagon document stated that five of the bomb's six safety mechanisms had failed; "only a single switch" prevented the nuclear detonation of this 24 megaton device."
Another option would be to have 9 monitors, instead of 6, with an added benefit that you could scoff at people with "only" a 6 monitor rig.
Hmm, I wouldn't count it as proper c++ until they brought out the open c plugin - that was around 2008, if I remember correctly.
