From what I read up on this storm bot it seems the weak point is the registered domains. Why don't they just shut them down? They have proof that certain domain names are implicated in the scam and they know they are doing the fast dns switch thing. It would seem to be a lot easier than trying to get 1 million indiviual pcs patched up.
The scrolling in opera mini is well designed, browsing isn't half as difficult as you think, obviously not as good as with a pointing device... but that adds bulk. Personally, I prefer to have a phone that fits in my pocket.
> I communicate heavily via forums, wiki, etc, for work, and being able to check these in a non-crippled (like a Blackberry, or every other phone really) phone is really, really, really nice.
It says that you get infected with the storm worm by clicking on a link in an email message. But it that an IE security hole? What happens if you use firefox? Are you safe?
Most windows users have never even used a Mac and have no idea why it's ment to be better. So if you say Leopard has dashboard, Quarts Extreme and Quarts Extreme, that's just totally meanless to a Windows user
They need to learn something about internet sales. There should be a one click payment like for skype. No entering of unnesecary personal details. If you make the sales process concivient and quick the customer has less chance to think twice about it. Also most people would want to hear a couple of song first, there should be a preview of the songs
There is a theory going around the internet that Vista was actually software recovered from the Roswell UFO crash site and reverse engineered. This explains the hardware compaitibly problems, the kernal was actually designed to interface with alien hardware.
I'd say most of the problem was MS development process, which seems totally disorganised. According to one of the developers working on the Vista shutdown dialog a team of 43 people were working on the feature for a year without ever getting close to finishing it:
You know, the only real solution of the problem is to make your network latency 100ms. No other solution will work. Maybe the neural prediction thing works better than dead reckoning in some situtions, but it never will be anywhere near as good as playing on a fast network
> Pass a measure forcing Microsoft and its subsidiaries to halve their advertising budget for, say, five years.
That could backfire horribly. I can see the headlines now:
MS sales increase despite ban on advertising. Savings cause MS profits to skyrocket. "The goverment fine was the best thing that ever happen to us", quotes MS spokesman.
Outlook hides important data, like the full email address and the list of people in a group. If you accept an appointment quickly you will never be able to find it again, because the email is deleted, and filed somewhere in the calender. Can't recognise urls... like if you paste http://.../ as text into a email most other programs convert it to a hyperlink. Even when it does recognise it can't handle spaces in urls. Pasting images into an email embeds them as uncompressed bitmaps. Extreemly hard to search for keywords in mails. Should just be able to search all emails with one click, regardless of what folder they are in.... and if I used it more I could make a much bigger list
Actually that's not true about Nokia. The new symbian phone accept self signed apps. Only when you need access to special apis do you need proper signing.
outlook is not a well designed product. There are many usablity issues, basic feature mistakes and bugs. I hope they don't do a feature-for-feature clone, like they did for word, because they can do much better.
that's not counting the numerous vista performance bugs, nor the well know usability issues (allow, continue).. which effectively slows down your productivity
Some of the direct x10 images look better, and some look worse. Just shows you that better tech doesn't necesarily translate to better art. The Call of Juarez water effects image definately looks better in the direct x 9 version.
Next on the list is pets.com
They can take control of the DNS of the big domain registers? How exactly?
> Dude, these domains could belong to somebody who had no idea of what they were involved in.
and how do they manage to steal some one's domain?

Just like to know who pays the developers for all the extra work Vista causes?
Assumably, the cost ultimately goes back to the consumer somehow.

Never heard of Opera mini then?
where did you hear that? Do you have a link?
> They are worried about getting sued by the small towns they direct the storms to in the effort to avoid large cities.
It's better to avoid being sued at any cost. Direct the hurricans into big cities and avoid the sue-crazy towns

In general weapons don't save lives, what really saves lives is not going to war without good reasons...

What if you have no permission to install software on the PC (lab PC, work PC, etc.)?
Then your stuck with the default browser.

Vista performance is slower even with aero turned off and this is not an opinion, it has been benchmarked:

The are other things in cities that could be linked to incedence of asthma, for instance the constant exposure to car fumes

I don't know about you, but I would perfer to go extinict by asteroid rather than a puny comet fragement
