I just thought I should note that it DOES say "select few" IBM execs. My guess is that the company is rewarding those that do good, as any company should. Yeah layoffs suck, but does that mean that you cant reward any other employee's good behavior? More then likely those select few execs have made the company millions of dollars in that company (not to say other execs arent losing the compnay money). They have to reward the good and fire the bad, just like any company does.
The fact is, layoffs bring employee moral down so unfortunately while it saves you money in the long run, many times you need to "reward" the employees still left. I know when i used to work at Circuit City... during that time when we were forced to cut labor we STILL ran contests for $100 gift cards here and there and did our best to keep moral up.
While i think 100,000 is a little pricey, it depends on the circumstances. If an exec made me 3 million dollars that quarter by his management skills and hard work, I'd sure as hell make sure he got rewarded, while cutting the labor of the manager that lost me money, and making sure his expense pocket strings were drawn up tight.
Naw, we have a legal obligation to say its optional:).
However, i AM in the laptop department, and i _know_ a laptop isn't REALLY a laptop without a 1200W subwoofer. AND, an extended warrenty (covers the laptop battery!)
My fellow circuit city employee's say Sony is planning out comming out with new LCD technology (actually, they've been working on it for quite a while). Its supposed to come out sometime next year. Basically, its an LCD where the pixels don't get old and stick and stuff:) (yay!) It's called A1 Addinene (sp?) If anyone has any more information on it, lemme know (i'm curious)
Being a Circuit City employee, I say LCD is the best bang-for-your-buck, and everyone in our TV department agrees. Plasma is for people who like to show off they have a lot of money.
And, you HAVE to get the extended warrenty on a plasma (its stupid not to). The LCD extended warrenty is "optional." Most people don't take that into account. Besides, LCD's have a much longer life expectancy.
Perhaps I'm wrong, but I believe you have no IDEA what you are talking about. There has been no more bad news than normal about linux. Again, perhaps I'm wrong, I'm always open to other's opinions. There always has been, and always will be, bad news about linux. Just like windows. And Macs, too for that matter. It's totally offtopic.
Also, what does SCO have to do with the Debian Server compromise? those are two TOTALLY different subjects. You can't group them all in the same "bad news" categories! One has to do with security, the other with the corporate-world. Again, totally offtopic!

True But this DOES mean that a full text version of the book is Available on the database somewhere. Which means if one person figures out how to get it, everyone has the book for free (thanks to kazaa and sharing.) Then again, many other sites offer ebooks for a price... which means they also must have full text versions available. So, i Suppose the publishers are just protecting themselves against possible danger.
oh, and being pains in the asses:) C'mon! Its what they do best!
How can Amazon not have the right to do this? I mean, EBSCOhost has the right to let you search MILLIONS of articles, books, and etc. What makes them any different than Aamazon?
Its not a bad buisness idea, though. If you think about it... if 4 people buy it at a $15 markup, this person is making $240 a month on it. Nice... I wouldnt mind an extra $240 a month =)

I thought it was pretty awesome, the love scenes weren't necessarily needed, but hey, i'm not complaining. 8) The special effects kicked ass. Without spoiling the movie, make sure you listen to the analogies made in the movie, especially the ones to programming. Its really a geeks movie if i ever saw one. goes right up there (on a different shelf- but still a classic like..) monty python. Absolutely.:)
Okay so, lets say I buy a new 17" powerbook (3k i think) and charge it on my credit card. Now lets go and make my child get a job. Well make him work, oh... 40 hours a week. Then we will take part of his money so that i can pay off MY debt. Hrm. I think thats child abuse. He could sue me for that- and win. Interesting viewpoint eh?
But lets say i'm in Florida, making a purchase online from a store in california. Thats exactly wahts going on. Why am i paying off a debt for a state i dont even live in?
Part of the reason scholarships are out there is FOR keeping students heads above water with the student loans.
There is over 3 BILLION dollars of scholarship money out there (including those for refrigerator engineers, waitress's, women, everything-- dont tell me you cant get scholarships because you CANT write-- bull), if you try hard enough, work long enough, and prepare well enough, you can have half to all of your college tuition on scholarship money. Some great sites are www.scholarships.com and www.collegeboard.com -- If you begin to prepare in your sophmore year, you'll get there:) Also, look for local scholarship contests. You have a much greater chance there because LESS people are applying.:) happy trails.

When i train, for the Air Force Auxillary, we use brinkman LED flashlights. Why? they last 1,000 years, first off. Also, they have an optional "flash" where we can use morse code with them. They are small, portable and powerful. They are also cheap. One of he nicest things about it is that it also has red, blue, green and orange covers to go over the Flashlight. Red: So it does affect your eyes, easier to adjust in teh night if you have to turn it off quickly and run like hell. Also is easier on other people's eyes. Orange: if you need to get noticed the orange-yellow light helps. Green: if your in the woods the green light is the least noticed. Blue: hmm- i have no clue what the hell the blue is for, we never have used it.... The Brinkmann flashlight goes for like 16 dollars or some cheap thing it also hooks onto your belt easily with its strap:) its very light, too.:D
Nah! no way. AOL cant _possibly_ be trying that ago old trick of bottling water and selling it, could they?;) Actually, i'd much rather borrow the cd's from the local library and copy them there. But hey, if your stupid enough to use AOL, your stupid enough to buy bottled water.
So, um.. I've sat here for about ten minutes, read the story- then reread it. I'm still not getting it. We knew this, when gravity is reduced, hydrogen bonds act in funny ways. Now for more interesting topics, like... why they have paint on the moon 0.o?
Perhaps NASA just wanted to show us that they CAN take billions of dollars and go spend it playing in water- or maybe they just got bored and noticed it? why the hell do they have paints up there anyway? they are in space for god sake. I have to agree. Time could be spend on much more interesting things.
