"and contrary to common belief, most 13 year olds don't know dozens of drug dealers."
No, you're right, they don't. Personally.
However every high school student I knew when I was in public high school knew one person who had the dealer's number. At least one.
Of course, we also knew people who were old enough to buy alcohol and ciggs. However, contrary to drug dealers WHO DON'T CARE HOW OLD YOU ARE, most 21 year olds take a lot more cash to convince to get you alcohol than it takes to get the weed guy to come to your house. I know, I used to get alcohol for some friends every now and then. Yeah I was evil. However, I would always refuse to buy them ciggarettes. They smoked weed all the time, it would just get delivered to their house. When buying alchy they had to get me alchy too.
So of course he's trying to make a fuss about it--It will hurt his ability to help people cheat. Slashdot has been trolled, sigh. Warden is good for us that actually just want to play the game and not have people cheating. If you are that concerned about it, please feel free not to play. No one is forcing you. It isn't being installed behind your back or hidden in any way. QQ moar, as we say in WoW.:)
"and have to bust your butt to become competitive (at Raiding or PVP) again."
Rigghhttttttttt.
This weekend is AV weekend. You could come back with nothing on and this weekend play hardcore for 2 days, work your butt off, and have a TON of epic gear from it. Prolly like 5 pieces worth if you played all day saturday and sunday. That isn't even counting friday and monday which are still double honor. Av weekend comes around regularly.
Not to mention quests you can do in netherstorm to get blues and greens that are PLENTY good enough, along with some cheap greens from the auction house, to let you run 5 mans in outlands and even raid Karazhan.
I could have a naked lvl70 character up to an acceptable lvl of gear in a week or less. I don't think that is "busting your butt". Hell, you can pick up good armor in the AH for almost nothing. Not to mention rep rewards that fill in missing pieces.
Gear is easy to get in Burning Crusade. I'm in a small friendly guild. We pick up group karazhan sometimes at night. We've killed most of the bosses. Will probably kill the prince this weekend (if we get time). If not shrug, no one cares. Couple hours here and there. I hardly think that is difficult or catering to the hard-core. So what if we don't get to see black temple.
Oh, and to get arena points you only need to play 10 games a week. Ten. That takes like an hour per week. Sure, it'll take you some time if you have a bad rating, but "working your butt off" ? No. Oh, and before you claim "but you need that uber raiding gear to be competitive in PVP!!" No. You don't.
My 2 on 2 team is ranked 2nd on our server. I have NO raiding gear on that character. NONE.
"the inafmous "Bridge to Nowhere" that would have costmillions and allowed a small town (can you even call it a town when there's not even 1000 people lviing there? I'd say a village) to save itself a bit of travelling by crossing the river directly."
Sorry, Ted Stevens may be a cranky old man, but you dissapoint me by blatantly lying.
The city the bridge is being built at has over 7,000 people. The reason it does not have more is there is a land shortage. Much land is available on the island (OCEAN, NOT RIVER). However, understandably, not being able to drive to work in the morning tends to make people not want to live there. There are many locations in many states where development could only take off once a bridge was built so people could drive around. A ferry just isn't the same, and you know it.
Dude, just get SpamSentry. You can even have it completely ignore any tells from someone under, say lvl10, if you wish (I don't use this feature of it because I find I don't need it at all). It also does a great job just filtering spam. You can have it notify you when it blocks something, notify you hourly, or not notify you at all (which is what I use, I never even know!).
"Should I be able to create a book detailing with no real scientific proof, that african americans are an inferior race of stupid people"
Yes. And the rest of us will make fun of you for being an idiot. You will be mocked, your friends will leave you, your family will alienate you, and your ideas will be shot down as coming from a complete retard. You will be fired from your job for being a hateful bastard. Kids will point at you. You will die alone and scorned. Your ideas WILL GO NOWHERE.....But if it was illegal...
"Psst, this book is illegal. The government doesn't want you to read this." What does that make you wanna do? It makes you want to read it.
If you wanna get powerful off of hateful ideas, it's probably a lot better for you to if they are illegal. It basically automatically gives you credibility and attracts followers.
Imus will probably get a bigger job or write a book and make even more money, or god knows what. He's famous now. Before this no one had heard of him. Grats to him.
Being able to be fired or made fun of because of public outcry over something you've said or done is FINE. He has free speech just as the rest of society can shun him or his employer can fire him for saying something dumb. Personally, I don't think he should have apologized one bit. He shoulda called all the offended people nappy headed hoes too, but whatever.
The difference here is he isn't being threated with charges or put in jail or anything like that.
Society is free to stop giving the guy any money. His employer is free to fire the guy. The government isn't going to come after him, though. Huge, HUGE difference.
Say I worked for a company that was ran by a jewish guy. I then go out into the street a few years later with a huge "jews worship satan and are all fags" sign. I get fired because my boss was offended. This does not mean i odn't have free speech. The government isn't going to come arrest me. Instead, society is goign to laugh at me for being an idiot, I'll lose my job, and people will make fun of me for saying something dumb. Doesn't mean I don't have free speech. If, like in some places in europe, you could get in trouble from the government for saying something like that, then we wouldn't have free speech.
In reality didn't most of the people in the concetration camps die even worse deaths? Ie starvation or horrible diseases? That is what I had figured out from doing some reading. The gas chamber would have been BETTER than the deaths many in the concetration camps received. Torture, suffering, dying of starvation over weeks and weeks. Shudder. All the talk of gas chambers makes the camps look LESS horrific than they really were, imho.
The idea that the Nazis wanted to kill other groups of humans is less scary than the fact that they saw the people they hated as NOT EVEN HUMAN.

As I post in all these threads: I'm for gay marriage, pro choice (though anti abortion I don't feel I can make the choices for others), for legal gambling (we don't live in a theocracy), pro legalized drugs and prostitution (what do you think Mary Magdalene was???) etc.
Slashdot would be a wonderful place if we could lose all the religion bashing.

Seriously, evolution happens all around us. We know. However, it doesn't necessarily mean God didn't put us here, or any of that Jazz. No. But that doesn't mean you are a "dirty sinner" or something if you are.

And they can keep her on because the extra liability doesn't bother them. It isn't like they need the money for a new high school or anything./we all voted against it~
I was not there when this happened, however. (Was only there for a semester).
This basically boils down to one thing: The principal (morse) is a douchebag. Her husband also happens to be quite racist against natives--(for bonus points for non Juneau people try to find out what his job was--might still be, I'm not living there at the moment)! I honestly don't know if she is still the principal there or not and I don't care enough to check. I do know that the previous principal never would have given two shits if this kid did that.
The kid just wanted attention and put up some nonsensical sign. And get real, the sign didn't change anyone's mind on whether or not they wanted to do drugs. When I went there almost everyone I knew smoked weed or drank. Yes, even some teachers.
If you were to turn your regular oven on to 450 and then open the door and sit right in front of it for 7-8 hours you'd feel like crap too. If you sat Close enough to it you'd get cooked. So what?
Microwaves make things heat up. It's not magic voodoo radiation. Your wifi router over there in the corner of your room isn't hurting you anymore than your light bulb over in the corner lighting up your room is.
In any case before any court challenging the legality of a classified communications intelligence activity relating to a foreign threat, including an electronic surveillance program, or in which the legality of any such activity or program is in issue, if the Attorney Genral files an affidavit under oath that the case should be transferred to the Foreign Intelligence Court of Review because further proceedings in the originating court would harm the national security of the United States, the originating court shall transfer the case to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review for further proceedings under this subsection.
Holy shit dude! All the AG has to do is file an affidavit!!! You WILL NOT be able to question this program in court!!! HOLY SHIT. And yes, if you read on it says that upon completion of review etc etc the court shall transfer the case back, but FOR FURTHER PROCEEDINGS CONSISTENT WITH ITS OPINION. (And how long, if ever, do you think it'll take them to complete their review? hahahaha)
I think that as long as they are not receiving public funds somehow they should be able to discriminate however they want.
However, in this modern age people would protest them and they'd quickly (as they should) go out of business, or you could choose not to associate with the scumbags that shop at a racist store. Free choice doesn't mean you have to make the right choices. imho
That I speak for all warlocks and we ARE HAPPY with these new talents and spells. We are finally being given a clean-up of the lower level talents in our talent trees. Affliction especially. These needed work. AND UNLIKE EVERQUEST, YOU WON'T HAFTA PAY FOR THE EXPANSION TO GET YOUR LOW LEVEL STUFF FIXED!!! That was one of the main reasons I grew to hate sony and won't buy any more of their stuff--bait and switch, etc.
What Locks needed was threat reduction and dot boosts. We now have threat reduction in all 3 trees. And a threat reduction talent. We complained (rightfully so) about having to farm in our own time more than any other class, just to supply our raids with soul shards. Now we get a spell so we can make like 10 of them with 1 shard in a raid. Thank god.
We got a ton of talents that have either been implemented or revamped, upping our dot dps a LOT. AND we get more dots. Affliction will be a viable raid spec. No, affliction will kick ass. Flat out 5% dps reduction on the mob from your low-aggro extremely-low mana cost dot? Kick ass.
We've complained a lot about dark pact being useless. That's been fixed. Even the lower rank version of it are being buffed!
We've complained about not having a fire nuke we can use on a raid. Now we'll have a kick-ass one (as long as immolate is on the target!).
We've complained about a lack of debuff slots on mobs in raids. It's being upped from 16 to 40, and the raid size is being cut from 40 to 25--problem solved.
With all that said--I bet the servers will be crashing non-stop for weeks as soon as the expansion is released. If I were you I'd wait a week or two to buy it lol.
I was very upset with Blizzard for the direction the game has been going lately. All 40-man raids, all the time. A lot of us were contemplating quitting. But they've actually listened. More interesting group stuff in the expansion, more pvp...Cross-server battlegrounds are already a godsend. On my server horde would NEVER win AV, but win tons of ABs. Now I get to win some (i'd say 40%) of AVs, and get to have more varied games in AB. (on my server it'd either be us vs. an alliance pug in which case we'd rape them, or an uber guild of alliance, and since alliance out number horde 2:1 on our server, alliance has much better gear overall--we'd get raped). Now I get mostly good tough fights. It's nice.
Hate to reply to myself, but again, I just want to point out that DPS warriors can tank fine in non-raid instances as long as they have non-shitty gear.
And the expansion is going to be less huge-raid oriented. Which means less worrying about aggro. PLUS...Bloodlust for both sides! That's gonna kick ass right there.
Rigghttttttt. You don't need tier2 gear to match rogue damage. Though I DO agree that it takes a lot of time.
You underestimate the kick-assness of some of the +crit/+hit smithing gear. It is hard and time consuming and takes a ton of cash to get, but it is very nice.
You also aren't taking into account PVP. Lots (most that I know, but I won't make judgements on you or your guild) of DPS-oriented warriors PVP...a lot.
PVP gear shouldn't be underestimated. ESPECIALLY since in the expansion it is switching to a system where you can spend your points to get gear instead of an endless treadmill of rank that decays. That should make the uber pvp weps obtainable for anyone, even though it will take them a while!
Wow you must whine a lot on the WoW forums too. DPS Warriors getting the shaft? Are you kidding me? LoL! You are complaining that you do rogue-like dps??? The 41 pt fury talent isn't that good? Are you nuts??? An extra 200 attack power. It's basically a melee talent version of a ToeP or ZHC. Use it every time that it's up and it'll make your BT's hit a lot harder for sure.
Tactical Mastery made into a tier0 talent??? That is a buff to DPS warriors in itself. Especially at lower levels.
I don't think you have really thought your complaint all the way through.
The precision talent, by itself, is an AMAZING talent for a dual weild warrior, especially against high level stuff. Unless you mean to tell me you have +20 to hit from your gear already. If you do, this will let you put on some better dps gear for some slots.
Same with improved berserker stance.
Well geared DPS warriors already can pump out the most DPS in the game in a lot of circumstances, PLUS they tank just fine in any non-raid instance, and on some raid stuff they can offtank just fine with a simple gear switch.
I also don't think you are taking to account the possibility of how high the damage increase on heroic strike could be to a dazed target, especially in PVP.
I do agree that the improved whirlwind talent is lackluster at best, no one will take it.
The cool thing about all this is that any one of us that was familiar with one desktop could definately sit down at any of the other desktops, even from 20yrs ago (or 20yr ago if we somehow got into a time machine and came to today), and be perfectly comfortable.
The basic premises of all these UIs is the same. This leads me to believe that in another 20yrs we will still be using the same folder/file idea that we have today. This is, I think, a good thing. It means that our damn grandkids won't be able to make fun of us for not being able to use the computer! But we can still tell them to get off our damn lawns!
I don't agree with a lot of the stuff that people post on here. I don't agree with a lot of people's political views. I am against the war (which I would assume most here are). I'm against smoking bans in states and cities on private property (I think if you don't like a restraunt because it is smoke-filled you can do what my parents and I did when i was litte: tell them their restraunt smells like ass and we won't be back unless they ban smoking in their facility). I think private businesses (but not government or businesses with public contracts) should be able to discriminate against people if they damn well please, whether it be because they don't like gays, catholics, women, white people, or whatever the hell they like (but if they have public contracts they should have to adhere to non-discriminatory policies). If they discriminate I'll be one of the ones telling everyone I know not go there.
I'm a Christian and I believe God created man (not necessarily 6k years ago, but w/e) but I don't think we should teach creation in schools as scientific theory. I don't think homosexuality is necessarly right but I am 100% (and I argue with as many other christians as I can to try to convince them) pro gay-marriage because, thank God we do not live in a theocracy (look at the middle east). I am for drug legalization and against the death penalty. I agree with some and disagree with some of the views that are the norm here.
Yet this kind of shit is just RIDICULOUS. OF COURSE you should NOT be allowed to sneak into the studio, copy the sheets of music (or w/e if they are on a computer), paste them into a file, save it as a PDF and save it online. I think we can pretty much all agree that this should be a civil infraction (I think reasonable people should also agree that there is nothing *criminal* about doing that and the gov should not be paying to investigate copyright infringment either, but w/e).
But if someone figures out the damn chords themselves from listening to the fucking music, YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY ABILITY TO PREVENT THEM FROM SHARING WHAT THEY HAVE HEARD WITH THEIR FRIENDS. GOOD GOD. If someone listens to your music, figures out how to play it on their instrument (lets not limit this to popular music) there should be NO LAW and NO PENALTY for them sharing what they have figured out. To try to control human thought is just unconciable.
There is a *HUGE* difference between trying to share the ability to play a song and infringing on someone's copyright. When copyright was invented (before the U.S. even existed) it didn't extend to people trying to figure out the notes to what they were hearing and playing them back to their friends.
It is already at the point where schools have been sued for performing music in plays etc when they did not have a license to perform it in a public performance. Is this what was intended?
I believe that if you walk up to someone on the street who is not familiar at all with copyright law and ask them questions about what they believe is right or not right, you would garner a pretty reasonable response overall. It is worthy of a lawsuit if you make a play about some guy's script and charge money for it. That guy who wrote the damn thing deserves to be compensated. But if your kid's elementary school finds that play on the 'net and performs it for the parents at Thanksgiving, fuck you if you think that is wrong and fuck you if you think the school should have to pay. Seriously.
There comes a point at which our society needs to decide which way it is going to go. There can either be a place for the modern day media corporations, or they can stay behind. That is their choice. But they cannot drag everyone else back in time with them. If they succeed in taking control of what people can or cannot think then it is only a matter of time before freedom of (or from) religion, freedom to own firearms, freedom to speak our minds (well, drugs are already illegal so we are getting there), etc... also fall to the same precedents.
"and contrary to common belief, most 13 year olds don't know dozens of drug dealers."
No, you're right, they don't. Personally.

Slashdot is so biased I don't know why I even bother anymore. Bashing Christians is so fashionable these days.
Good to know she is no longer principal.
/we all voted against it~
And they can keep her on because the extra liability doesn't bother them. It isn't like they need the money for a new high school or anything.
I used to go to JDHS as well ;p
Also, a whole lot of hookers and blow.
Or 1/2345th of a Senator!
