What the benchmarks mean is that if you do a lot of media encoding, compiling, etc, you would probably benefit from conroe. HOWEVER, if you play games, regardless of whether or not you are on an AMD/INTEL system currently--if your system is pretty new--Do not upgrade at this time, as you are GPU limited, not CPU limited. Basically conroe: Large performance gains in cpu bound applications Little performance gain in gpu bound applications, obviously. This is good for intel. My systems for the past 7 years or so have been AMD. My next one very well may not be. The good news for everyone is that AMD is now the underdog again. Remember what happened last time they were the underdog? We got the athlon. The cpu speed wars went into a frenzy. For the last several years (5 or so) Intel has been sucking balls. Their chips have not been performance competitive. Clock speeds in both camps have stagnated. AMD chip prices have went way up compared to how they used to be. This is good news, AMD will go into overdrive developing their next-gen chips. Amd chips will become dirt cheap again. We'll see a new performance war. This is something i've been waiting for anxiously for a few years. I am very excited. Another thing is that the new intel chips take much less power than the old ones . (thank god)

While we cannot and should not assume that Microsoft has OpenOffice's best interests at heart (of course they don't) this is still excellent news.

This is extremely significant news. What this means is that, after years and years of MSO having no competition, years after they basically wiped out wordperfect etc... There is now significant competition to Microsoft Office, and they are being forced to acknowledge it.

Hopefully this will mean that Microsoft will start developing some new revolutionary stuff in Microsoft Office instead of just resting on their laurels (sorry but I don't think any version since 6.0 has been that huge of an upgrade compared to going to 6.0). This is good news. We are all going to get better products instead of everyone just copying each other's minor features.

Open Office is here to stay. They have succesfully gotten a multi-billion dollar company to acknowledge them as a serious competitor just like Linux forced them to acknowledge that windows has competition. Microsoft no longer has the monopoly they did a few years ago.

The Dell's processor is slower than the iMacs by a large amount. Not to mention the coreDou runs MUCH cooler. The Pentium D is a joke and no offense but anyone who would choose one over a dual core athlon is a retard (unless they didn't have a choice). The Intel CoreDou is an *excellent* chip.

If someone gets fired from their job or something (as someone earlier in the thread was saying) because of a pr0n addiction. I hate to say it, but porn is NOT THE PROBLEM in that case. If the person has such a pr0n addiction that they cannot function, I doubt it is the p0rns fault. If it werent that, it'd be somethign else. You can get some other stuff as well. Sharing needles, accidents, blood transfusion oopsies, etc! Not having sex is NOT a 100% gaurantee against STD's, despite the fact that the "religious right" (religious wrong imho) always say that it is. The Apocrypha have no basis in truth (whether you say the Bible does or not is up to you hehe). But the early Christians, the ones that formed the beginnings of the "accepted" documents knew that what was in the Apocrypha were falsehoods, thus they were not incorporated into the cannon of scripture. Remember, these were people who were only a generation or two (or longer in some cases for the apoc. down from Paul, and even Jesus himself). Read the Bible and then read some of the Apocrypha sometime. Don't take my word for it! Go check it out. It CLEARLY does not belong.

A LOT of the stuff that some Christians teach has NO basis in whats in the Bible either. Stuff like abortion (go find the text wher it says that it would have been better for the person to have been miscarried than to lead a miserable life), the rapture (no basis in scripture), the mormons believe some totally non-biblical stuff. Eternal damnation in hell (wait, don't you have to accept Jesus for eternal life? Apparently according to some Christians you can accept Satan and you'll get eternal life too! Just in hell, but still eternal life.)

Now, the people that think the KJV is the only good Bible are just as ridiculous imho as the people that think the apocrypha is truth. The only people I know (actually, KNEW) personally that believed the KJV was IT were some VERY VERY weird southern baptists. The kind of people Jesus warned against in the new testament. The ones that follow all the laws, but their heart isn't there. In historical reality, there is *great* evidence for the accuracy of the new testament we have now. The KJV was pretty accurate, but they did not have many (I want to say most, actually) of the oldest manuscripts that we have found. Probably the most accurate translation is the New American Standard Bible. The book(s) *are* historically accurate, and very few take the apocrypha to fit in with them at all.

Whether you want to believe the *content* of the new testament is obviously something very different indeed, as there is very substantial evidence for a very old earth, and macroevolution, etc!

I'd go so far as to say that in NO WAY is belief in a God scientific BUT you can include religion in science. Belief in the Bible flood, or in stories from the Bible, can give you ideas for testable hypothesis. You cannot however, scientifically prove the Bible stories true. But you could form valid scientific theories to explain Biblical events and get evidence to solidify such theories. Just the same for evolution.
