I went with a friend to the Apple store for him to get the new iPhone. While standing there I stated comparing my version 1 iPhone to the new ones. While holding them side by side for a size comparison I noticed the new version had only 3 bars while my phone had 5 bars. I thought it may have been this particular phone but nope every phone in the store had 3 bars! I'm waintg for version 3 if my battery will hold out.

You can already buy channels a la carte. It's that they just charge the same price as for the next programming teir.

I wanted HBO so I could watch the Sopranos and that's all I wanted. The price for adding this one channel, only $9.95. The next tier with HBO and a bunch of other stuff, $9.95.

It's that type of behaviour they should be addressing.

  9. Will only supplement normal launch methods on Disney Launches Fireworks With Compressed Air · · Score: 5, Informative

The Disney gatlin gun uses compressed air to launch shells in the 4 to 8 inch range. At least this was the sizes they launched a few years ago when I saw the system, maybe they they go up to 10 inch but Disney doesn't shoot many 12 inch shells anyway.

They have a large several hundred horsepower air compressor at each air launch system for the lifting oumph. No nitrogen involved as it is too expensive to use in the quantities required.

The shells are plastic encased shells that are a little enlongated (not sperical like normal shells, think eggish). Inside each shell is a little electronic circuit and electric match. The circuit is engergized by a inductive coil in the base of the fiberglass launch tube. The circuit doesn't use altitude per se but a timed interval instructed in the coding pulse at the launch event.

The bulk of the show will still be fired normally as they have lots of ground level effects and lots of smaller shells that would be too numerous to fire in the air launch system unless they have made great strides in its firing rate. I shot many a show that had 100 of 3 and 4 inch shells going up per second.

Still plenty of smoke to be smelled around the lake in Epcot.

  13. High Power rocket motors are impressive on The Demise of Model Rocketry? · · Score: 1

but without sophisticated guidance systems and telemetry any weapons utilizing hobby rocketry parts are just an unguided high speed bottle rocket.

With the explosion of the AeroTech plant in Nevada, rocket motors are harder to get anyway. Several other manufacturers have developed their own motor systems and reloads in their place.

I personally got out of High Power when the shipping and hazmat fees started to cost as much or more than the motor. Now that the guvment is more involved I do pyrotechnics instead. But that won't last much longer either.

A couple of pyrotechnics sites in case you're interested.
