I had a W7 system I activated with no hardware changes whatsoever. The only exception was I unlocked my X3 AMD to an X4 with no issues. Realised the only problem the 4th CPU had was terrible physics in Borderlands 2...limbs would randomly twitch. I turned the lock back on and that single change in my CPU required reactivation. Annoying, but I didn't have to call in.

Additionally with all the server side checks I'm finding that more and more of my emails never even reach the recieptants. Whether it be that the spam filter catches them or the mailserver deems my mailserver too small to trust. Isn't it assumed that the DRM included in iTunes would disallow something like this even though it should be completely within the right of the purchaser/owner? I think this is another major problem with DRM technologies. They assume that the purchaser will desire to keep the media indefinately rather then sell it. Then again with the music industry already attacking used CD sales from cutting into their profit I highly doubt they'd want it any other way. What's better then forcing new copies of songs/albums to be purchased rather then continue the ability for it to exchange hands via a 3rd party at a possibly lower rate then the Music Companies would be willing to discount it to?

I know I know if i really wanted to break free I could, but the majority of people in my industry are hardheaded and refuse to upgrade. 19. Re:Good for Open Source? on Open Source at TiVo · · Score: 1

I think your very misinformed my friend. The MLS systems are jelously guarded by private enterprises that we realtors have no right to unless we pay for it. Additionally we are restricted in what we say in "OUR OWN LISTINGS" in this database because they sell the database to websites like Realtor.com who don't want the listings generic offering no marketing for the realtor who is selling the damned house. So the result....$150 a month access fees to a restricted system, with restricted use, and restricted data input. Their just as much a monopoly as Microsoft because we *need* access to this information, but they are the only ones with all the data centrally available. And an alternative solutions is nearly impossible because you'd have to convince thousands of professionals who are not tech savvy and are comfortable with what they've used. So we either use the system so your house we're hired to market gets seen by the thousands of agents in the area, or we decide to use some alternative which will give your property little industry knowledge of it's availability.

Real Estate. The local MLS (Multiple Listing Service) is web based and for some god aweful reason they think it's a good idea to make the main navigation menu require IE 5.x or better. So if I ever want to see what is on the market or input a listing i need to do so with windows. On top of that our major contact management and scheduling program (www.topproduceronlin.com) requires Windows and Internet Explorer. Tried it on Linux and Apple platforms with no luck. I myself have developed some applications using a universal application like PHP, but I don't have the time to devote to development of solutions expecially when the most important tool I use I have no control over development besides bitching and complaining. I'd say 98% of people in the Real Estate industry know nothing aside from Windows, and those whom do are stuck because of that market share :(

I myself am wedged so far into Microsoft territory that I cannot budge and every application we use for our industry is 100% Microsoft product requirements, whether it be windows or internet explorer. Exactly. I think one of the problems today is most games are sold on hype like movies and once the product is purchased it really doesn't matter how bad it is. Here is a great example: Enter The Matrix. The game came out right during E3 and at the same time of the movie so everyone who was a Matrix fan wanted to buy it, and the game reviewers were too busy at E3 to review it. So instead it sold out everywhere only to be realized that is isn't the extrodinary game it was advertised to be. I bet you if a demo had come out before the game, they would have sold much less. Instead they banked on the overwhelming hype. Kinda sad for us.

Warez before you buy is becoming a very popular phrase in the gaming community. It's easier for me to mod one of my consoles and then download the full game and play it before buying it. I don't have a DVD burner so most of the games are rips leaving you with multiple CDs and missing video footage, but it lets you play the actual game. I can't tell you how many games I "downloaded illegally" to try them out only to be so impressed that I bought it. Here's a great example. I downloaded Grand Theft Auto 3 for the PS2 and liked it so much I bought it and pre-oredered Vice City. I honestly think I would have passed up this great game if my decision was based on the demos of today.

  25. Re:Shareware = Demo on release on The Return Of Shareware Games · · Score: 1

I never meant that ALL games are demoless. It's just a trend that more and more are being released without demos or demos weeks after the release. Also ALOT of "demos" are public betas that really give no true sense of how well the game will run on your hardware in finished state. You could say that very view console games can be found in demo form, but compared to PC games, you can try the retail version at the store prior to purchase, PC gamers don't have the luxery.
