    YOu know, as evil as this may be, Sitting on that quantity of Unused IP adresses is just as criminal. Perhaps Once they get the addresses back, they should consider selling or renting them out to raise some funds since California claims to be having budget problems. I'm sure some of these guys would be happy to put in a bid.

    Most people have no desire to pay for another upgrade to their voice service. This is a lesson that must be learned, and re-learned. Customers don't want convergence unless it is cheaper than the sum of the parts. Joe Average is fully prepared to pay $40 each for 3 products and services that give him exactly what he wants, but is unwilling to pay more than $80 for one product and service that provides the total package.

    This is as good a place as any to point this out. The treatment of those vets IS disgraceful, but primarily because they are not properly or effectively made aware of the benefits they are owed. Many of them are due full healthcare and a survival level stipend. BUT an effective effort to provide those benefits has not been made.

    The swiss for whatever reason were considered the most deadly mercenaries/army in europe until 1847. And since Europeans have such long memories, I would expect that they are still afraid.

    There is some kind of signal. I'm not sure what it is, or how it works, but AFAICT, that is how commercials are detected. And IIRC, there were at one point VCRs that could detect the signal as well.

    Well Indeed. And allegedly the Automagic commercial skip was broken anyway, causing portions of the show to be lost anyway.

    Doesn't automagically skip comercials doesn't mean you can't do a 15/30 second skip or jump forward. Just means that the box won't have the current feature which autodetects and skips commercials. Obviously, a compromise solution, but not earthshattering or skybreaking.

    The 8008/8080/Z80 were Personal Computer processors. Oh, and that is of course according to intel in 1974 or 72, depending on how you wish to define Personal computer.

    Except the article is wrong. the 8086 was not the first CPU Intel built... that was the 4004, the 8086 wasn't even the first CPU built for use in Personal computers that was either the 8008 or the 8080.

    This is definitely a *Personal* computer. And as best as I can tell, so is this. And I am certain that this Trs-80 qualifies, even though it used the z80, from Zilog which was the equivilant to AMD then and the z80 was an extention to the 8080.

    Except the article is wrong. the 8086 was not the first CPU Intel built... that was the 4004, the 8086 wasn't even the first CPU built for use in Personal computers that was either the 8008 or the 8080.

    Exactly. In fact, if the security measures(physical security) were in place before 9/11, the death toll would have been an insignificant 300. And given the longstanding US Terrorism policy, those 300 would have been listed as effectively dead as soon as the terrorists took over.

    Obviously a rescue attempt would have been made, but... in Real life, people die in hijacking attempts, and civilians and governments have learned to accept this.

    I switched to cable internet for cost purposes, and now taxes on top of everything else. Of course if this requires that Cable providers start sharing their wires better, and get some competition in, then I guess it will be worth it. Mayhap we will see a net drop in costs.

    Just fyi, Thalidomide is still being used. In fact, it looks like it may be a wonderdrug to cure some cancers. However, they aren't allowing pregant women, or women who might become pregnant to participate in the tests.

    It also matters if you write to your representative. It doesn't matter if you voted for or against him. Write a letter, expressing your feelings on the issues that matter to you, listing your home address, and making certain he knows that you know how he has voted, and that he knows how he will vote and has voted will affect how you vote, then do the same thing around election time, and write to each candidate. Vote for the one that responds reasonably and respectfully. Write a similar, but different letter to the person who wins. Be visible, but not annoying...

    $12K doesn't look like alot compared to his tuition. I think he should have fought it, gone to EFF ACLU, etc. and countersued for lost tuition, if he had to take time off from school.

    Uh, people like that don't join mensa. My IQ is in the 135-140 range, and I worked with several people who surpass me there(it comes up in conversation when you are a computer programmer). The general consensus was that joining mensa was a masturbatory thing.
