i live in halifax ns, and i'd be real interested to hear which company you are working for that will pay you 90K / yr here
my consulting company subs to companies in ontario so i can work on larger projects than i'd typically see in ns, but i'd drop it in a second if i could find someone local that could pay me as much as i'm making now
just read your idea and it is the best system i've seen proposed yet.
just guessing, but seems to me it would also be the cheapest system by a long shot.
i'm still using a 1702 as well... watching it right now
it is the toughest, most reliable, piece of electronic equipment i have ever owned. i've had it since new and it has been with me through many moves.
im using a vcr as the receiver, so i can change channels remotely, but sucks not being able to control the volume with the remote...
"Apart from the fact that we can all get that from the motel we most recently visited, there are plenty of legitimate sites that distribute the Bible online."
is the RIAA guy saying that its all right to steal motel bibles?
i switched to dark green background and silver text for everything and lost a tic that i used to get
i thought it was too much pot, but was white background the whole time
do some checking on google, but the basic problem is that a book's lightsource is reflecting off of the white page, whereas a monitor is blasting that white light directly onto your retina. that is why black text on white back is good for books but nasty for CRTs
mozilla is very good at making the web look the way you want it to, not the way some old school marketing hack who thinks white background looks 'fresh' thinks it should
the same argument could be made for the dvorak layout, that people don't realize how much better it is
the QWERTY layout was designed to accomodate the limitations of mechanical typewriters
the dvorak keyboard was designed for rapid input of the english language
the focus of the main design principle should be enough to make you realize that dvorak is much better suited to the needs of modern computer users than something designed to fit the practical the needs of ancient typewriter designers
i am adding this because you made specific reference to the Maritime Provinces of Canada.
to be factual, the resident inshore fishery had identified the problem and made moves to restrict THEIR fishing patterns.
however, our federal gov't. did not see fit (or maybe they simply couldn't) to impose the same restrictions on foreign factory vessels, sitting just outside canadian waters, but still on the Grand Banks.
the effect of this was to make any efforts by the residents to manage their resource of no consequence.
the way this ties into the parent topic is to illustrate that often there is a hierarchy of groups (resident fishers, federal govt's, international institutions) making decisions, often with distinctly different powers and objectives.
so it is entirely possible that the group most affected by a decision will choose the correct course of action and be submarined (pun intended) or over-ruled by a group further up the chain.
lol, that's a great idea for a tv show
or maybe expand it to the data center, call it 'the colo' and totally rip-off 'the office'
don't forget about the cassette link in the vinyl->cd chain
i've got a friend who bought sabbath in all three mediums
the GP is bang on... drm is all about making sure consumers 'upgrade' whether they want to or not
i think you've missed the nuance of sentence you quoted
the 'interests' he's referring to are the same folks who 'foiled' this plot
what better way to frighten your populace and lend credibility to oppressive security measures than to 'foil' a plot of your own concoction
massive fear and incovenience (and another excuse to crank it up a notch) without bloodshed... sounds exactly what they would like
sry, is OT, but just had to say something
this is exactly what a slashdot thread should be like
no flames and was a good read
getting very rare lately
thx guys
very cool, thx for sharin
kudos, your final line was very well put
totally agreed on it being a new level of mastery
nothing crazier than playing a DM with 3 other equally skilled folks and everyone is watching everyone else's screen
we still fire it up every now and then
too funny dude
bang on about the machines being exempt
that's exactly the loophole they will use
i am so glad you posted this
i am positive that i also have it
you have saved me from a similar future
drop me an email... i am in your debt
that is what's literally been going on since the border was closed to live cattle... we've been eating the economic damage
so much for free trade... the hypocrisy is staggering

yup, i thought the exact same thing when i read this
it appears to cover everyone who is on a P2P network
i liked that one too, great story
one of the more insightful things i have seen on /. in a while
i like the sig too!

i'll second that...

this issue finally made me cough up the bucks and im damn glad i did
should have done it long ago
and i challenge anyone else who hasn't done so, to join now. its not a whole lot of money and they really need the support.
very good news to hear it went our way this time

ya, exactly... not only did they steal from him
they called him crazy but that was only to hide the real reason his technology was scuttled
people were scared of tesla's wireless power transmission because they wanted to make a killing off of selling copper for wires
imagine how much copper was needed to wire the entire U.S.
and they did make a fortune from it, look it up
it was (and still is) shortsighted greed that stands in the way of revolutionary tech
which will come with a new MS license...
thx dude, that's an awesome link.
/. is the links in comments, and have been proven correct again.
i was just telling my buddy that i think the benefit of
