ya, what's depressing is that the first thing i thought was that in these times any sort of plane crash is suspicious.

anyone wanna bet that this was a 'wellstone-type' affair?

na, forget it, we'll never know the truth anyway...

call me paranoid, but anyone who says it can't happen has their head in the sand. i would rather call it healthy skepticism than paranoia... but either is preferable to being numbered among the 'sheeple'

and again you're missing the point, he says that it is relatively easy to manage your environment indoors, but is almost impossible outdoors. so your 'suggestion' that he find an outdoor job is nonsense.

for the record, i am a canadian socialist and certainly not typical.

however, from your assumption that everyone who reads /. is an american and that anyone who expresses a tolerant view is a socialist, i can safely assume that you are in fact a very typical citizen of our reckless neighbour to the south.

    anyone recognize that little nugget?

so, when did the russians (or anyone else) send their probes? AFAIK, no one has done so. if they had, we would not be having this discussion now.

the point is, until something is verified by anyone other than the person (or entity) claiming it to be so, no rational person can dismiss the possibility that the claim is not true out of hand. take computer security issues for example, a topic near and dear to the slashdot crowd's heart, would you believe a company's security is airtight just because they say so? or would you want to see an independent audit.

that's exactly what this is trying to be, an independent audit

and even if they were to be humiliated now, that's not the point. the race was to be first, and the perception is that the americans won, whether they did or not. the objective has been achieved.
