Cool! I myself wanted to write a long FAQ about how to do an analogous thing for traditional mice. i.e. how to use a whiteboard marker to change the ball to match your decor.....but got bogged down by technical details...perhaps someone can help me...

One website for you. babelfish.altavista.com. While it might goof up occasionally, it generally translates well enough for me to get a good idea of the contents. Also, computers *have* been getting better at turing tests (though only for limited domain interactions). I see no reason that computers cannot recreate some "abstract" (or atleast seemingly so) patterns. Hell, if a computer can play chess, thats abstract enough "thinking" for me.

That would really be good. I hope some day we all will use plain text instead of bloated fancy-formatted text. vi is fast and reliable. Chances, are that raw text would probably be the only "format" still in use in 20-30 years. In circumstances like these, I think the best metric would be to use averages. An average windows box is less likely to be well managed given the profile of an average windows user (not to say (s)he is less smart, just less of an OS/security geek). Add to this the bundling of dangerous products like VB-script enabled utilities, and the winbox (even corporate-admin managed) is a disaster waiting to happen. On the other hand, a *nix user is mostly a more sophisticated user with a little more understanding of security. I don't think it is possible to have a really completely fair and proper comparison of the two systems unless you only ask persons who use/admin both systems.

While new UI devices are always fun, I seriously doubt how scalable and how expressive these are going to be. For someone who makes moderate use of shell programming facilities, I really see no good alternative to typing out "for i in `cat $i`;do...done". I see no universally intuitive way of expressing this action using any mouse or hand gestures. Also, how easy is it to "program" gestures? Can I make macros/functions (with arguments?????) to do things I do often? In general, I'm very skeptical of new UIs claiming to increase productivity manifold because they are "closer to the way we think". I think it is very important for any new UI to specify the particular context (or group of users) for which it is meant.
