I'm sure filesharing will not end to this. First of all there are many users outside the US, which FBI can't do very much about. Secondly if all the Internet traffic WAS monitored in all the countries, and all the countries would hunt for copyright violators, someone would simply encrypt the traffic and send it trough random ports. You see this is a constant war that will not end.
Anyway it's kinda stupid to hunt after people who fileshare when there are real criminals and terrorists out there.
That being said, I think LyricFind and the MPA should sit down and work out a licensing agreement with each other to work out a deal that benefits all three parites
Agreed. MPA has no right to break the law just because someone else does.
AFAIK in Finland you are even allowed to share your own legal music with your friends/family. As you can imagine, because of the p2p networks there have been serious discussion in who really is your friend (eg. the guy living in the States that you have never seen, but you know him by IRC, is he your friend?). It will be interesting to see how things will end up.
I tried to find any specs about that, but couldn't find any. I however doubt that there would be any encryption, because all they actually did according to the page was to combine a screen and a X10 reciever. Or am I missing something here?
You could however check the article in 2600 about "warspying" which said to have inspired them.
After walking for about a half a block across 13th Street, we got a picture. It was a security camera picture of some interior hallway. Must have been in a nearby building.
Why in the hell would a security camera be wireless? And this thing doesn't even seem to be encrypted!
the US and Russia (and the Europeans are mentioned too) are planning for an eventual manned Mars trip
Yeah right. Even with having problems to fund projects of smaller scale, how could this be possible? And do they have a space ship built, because shuttles doesn't fly to Mars. I really doubt this could happend, unless some real changes occur. Isolating some guys for 500 days won't change anything.
I wish there was some feedback here before I update my iPod, to see if Apple messes something up on my system.
I updated my 10 GB Mac iPod, and the updating process went smoothly. I have had no problems with the update. So go ahead and update. You should however always make backups if you want to be sure.
I mean, am I the only person for whom the disk space/memory/processor speed pissing contest is rather dull? I am much more interested in what interesting things people do with computers, not how tricked out their computers are.
Yes, but I think it would be even more dull, if Slashdot would report what geeks are doing with their computers. There would only be news about geeks watching pr0n all day long.
Can anyone tell me what is so positive in how big the party is? Last time I was on a LAN party we were about 20 persons, and most of us knew each other. And it was real fun. But I doubt that it would have been that much fun if we hadn't know each other. Big parties are often dull because you just sit there by your computer, something you could do at home too.
Hey. You're quite good at this! You haven't thought of becoming a linguistic expert of some sort?:)
As a native speaker of English, though, I am grateful that it is the international language of communication now, and I don't feel it is appropriate to ridicule people for whom it is a second or third language. If I had to post to/. in French, for example, I would regularly make an ass of myself.
Thanks for your understanding. I actually find it sometimes quite difficult to post here in English; don't find the right words I'm looking for, spelling and word order problems etc. It is definitely a problem for people like me writing in my third language (after Finnish and Swedish - programming languages not included;P) with my not-so-great-language-skills(tm). It still is a good thing I don't have to write in german. You can believe what that would be like.;)
...
one of your `friends' is `anttijaakkola', which can only be Finnish (double-A, double-T, and double-K all in one name )
Heh. I'll mention about this, when he returns from his holiday.;)
And your nick (to my untrained ear) could be Finnish, too...
Yeah. Well actually my nick is Fulcrum, but it was unfortunately taken here, so I used this Finnish-like version of my nick used by some of my friends.
...
so all the signs pointed Suomi-ward.
So I'm guilty as charged?;)
PS. I have to admit that I ran this trough a spell checker this time.:P
Could anyone tell me the difference what Office look like? Ofcourse it's nice if the interface is good etc, but I can do everything I need with my Office 2000. I could even managage with Office 95 for sure. I see no reason why to buy a new Office. What we really need is stability.
Would Microsoft do anything to make that particular program dissapear?
Well. They propably gonna make as much money of it as they can, but I don't think they've gonna make a Virtual Palladium to it, no. It would benefit Apple, not Microsoft.
I agree. It truly is a great feature, and it will be very interesting to see if Apple will implent it in Safari. Tabbed browsing is actually one of the reasons why I prefer Chimera over Safari. On other hand Safari has the snap back button...
Mikrobitti (A Finnish computer magazine) has it's own Assembly 2003 site partly translated to English.
Pictures from the party can be seen here (Finnish only). There is not very much stuff yet, but there should be more soon. :)

(Sorry I'm late)
No. I think that is the number of people, helped by the geek next door. The true number is even worse I believe.
No. You forgot the ??? part.
Easy. Just write a hack to it. The source code seems to be available. Scroll down, and you wont miss it.
Sorry to reply to myself, but it does seem that the site wasn't _cracked_, as I understood from the post. Forget about it. :)
Errare humanu est.

No kidding, I just saw a blink tag yesterday...
Did it say "coming soon"?
Yeah right. Even with having problems to fund projects of smaller scale, how could this be possible? And do they have a space ship built, because shuttles doesn't fly to Mars. I really doubt this could happend, unless some real changes occur. Isolating some guys for 500 days won't change anything.
If the aliens would be exploiting that, our computers would be full of alien pr0n, which it isn't the case... Right? RIGHT?
You should have told earlier. I already used all of my CAT 5 when building C-3PO.
Now I have a copy of this 3.5" floppy disk Enterprise...
The only problem is how to get it fit in the floppy station so I can post a copy of it to the /. crowd.
Damn it. Didn't solve that one. Move along.
You're right. But I think it must be a picture book in that case.
I updated my 10 GB Mac iPod, and the updating process went smoothly. I have had no problems with the update. So go ahead and update. You should however always make backups if you want to be sure.

He is probably right. I really could have use of a grammar checker. :-P
But how did you know I was from Finland anyway?-) My journal? My nick?

Thank god! I've been looking for something like this for months! ;)
