Not the product in question? The product in question is windows vista. The screenshot shows a system crash. Reading the article and looking at a picture is not rocket science.

I suppose it's possible that he's lying, but unless you can present some evidence to the contrary, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Evidence? He posted a frign picture himself. He should explain that crash. He should have written near flawlessly or that vista runs as well as Microsofts current offerings. He's probably just exaggerating. That's as far as my benefit of doubt extends. I can't look at that image and come to the conclusion that the machine he's running is running flawlessly.

Saying things like (in effect), "ha ha, they are so stupid they think me making a backup copy of something I bought is a loss!" is funny and all, but it's not very intellectually honest. We're all pretty smart here, so I think we all understand that they don't actually think this."

I don't think you can make such a definitive statement. I was only able to find summaries of the study here:
    http://www.mpaa.org/press_releases/2006_05_03leksu mm.pdf

If you read the definition of illegal copying they say "Making illegal copies for self or receiving illegal copies from friends of a legitimate VHS/DVD/VCD". They do not define what an illegal self copy is. Since it is poorly defined in the report there is no way to know if backups are included in that number. Decrypting a DVD with certain programs is illegal even if it is for backup purposes. Why would you assume they would omit a group of people that the MPAA has previously sued under the DMCA or Copyright and Related Rights Regulations 2003 in the EU?

So true. I can't afford to have the latest and greatest computers. Because of this I try to by a good computer and have it last as long as possible. Apple just decides that it won't support my machine with the latest release of the operating system. Apple put an arbitrary check for older systems and then refuses to upgrade your computer. We can all dream. I'm hopeful this will happen but skeptical that it will.

"The war on terrorism is necessary to PREVENT people from abusing these kinds of technology. INDIVIDUALS, not rogue states."

The war on terrorism is going so well that osama is still not caught after about 4.5 years. That war is not going so well. The US operations in Iraq acts as a wonderful recruitment tool for terrorist organizations. Preventing someone from becoming a terrorist is all about winning hearts and minds. We lost that battle a while ago. Terrorists don't use advanced technology to kill people. They use the guns and weapons the US sold to them in the 60's 70's 80's, or whenever we sold them weapons, or they use other methods such as planes.

A lot of people make the mistake of saying that the war on terrorism is working because we have not had a nuke or a biological attack in the US. It's like saying I've never seen flying pink cows cause I sprinkled magic dust in the air. The dust must work cause I've never seen one of those cows yet. The fact is that terrorists won't use nukes or biological weapons. They will use crude weapons cause that's all they can afford. You can't prevent someone from obtaining a crude weapon so you HAVE to prevent that person from becoming a terrorist in the first place.

Yes shooting all the ambulances will tactically win the battle if your statement about transporting weapons and hostiles is correct.
