So your natural reaction to a child running across a highway while you're driving is boredom? I would be more alert after seeing that (even if it was just a test.) Ok that would probably cause an accident though (I'd swerve to miss the child, hit another car) but I'd deffinitely be more alert. Then I bought 8MB of RAM and my computer was finally able to load games like Doom 2.

If you think I'm just remembering things being much better than they actually were, well a few months ago someone brought me a laptop that ran, you guessed it, Windows 3.1. He had a problem booting (he didn't know how to start windows, it just went into DOS.) I changed his autoexec.bat file to run windows when the computer started up. It ran just as fast as I remembered it. I've also had to install Windows 95 recently on a computer with 32MB of memory. That ran very, very quickly. I had to install software for an embroidery machine and I couldn't use a new computer cause then I'd need to buy new software for $2,000. The old software ran in DOS and the computer had Windows 3.1, I had to upgrade to Windows 95 because I couldn't find a copy of Windows 3.1 or a copy of DOS that was working. I wouldn't expect software that fit on a few floppies to need more than 128MB of RAM.

It does everything a PDA can do, plus you can't put it in your pocket cause it's too big, plus it's ugly, plus it's more expensive than a normal PDA and some duct tape, plus it doesn't even exist yet. Really, the flaw in that logic is the idea that the Death Penalty has any measurable deterrent effect. It doesn't. If it did, that would indeed be a cause for great debate about the use of the practice, but in the real world most western states have either disposed with the practice or put severe limitations on it.

It does when taken to the extreme. If you issue the death penalty for ANY criminal act, there'd deffinitely be a lot less crime. There'd be less criminals because they'd all be dead, and before someone did some small crimes like shop lifting, they'd have to think "Do I want to die today?" The reason we don't do that is because, well it's just wrong. You don't want to kill everyone, you want to punish them so they stop, and the punishment should fit the crime.

The death penalty for a crime like murder might not have a measurable effect because the person commiting the act already knows their either going to be in jail for the rest of their life or die, I'd rather choose death (why would anyone want to stay in prison for the rest of their life?) But when it's a penalty for a lot more crimes it will deffinitely have a measurable effect.
