I used to take dance lessons. I got to the point one summer where I did not have any fat visible on my thighs. That's pretty damn hard for a woman. The classes were for two hours, five times a day.
Later on, I took a workout class which lasted an hour, four days a week. I lost 15 pounds. I felt good and thought I looked good. I thought that if I could do this, then anyone could if they just kept at it and tried hard enough.
Then I started having health problems. Went to my doctor and found out I am hyperthyroid. This means my metabolism is kicked into overdrive. It is NOT good for your body. Supposedly, I could have had a heart attack at any time.
They put me on drugs that lower my metabolism and I gained 35 pounds. I have never weighed this much in my entire life. Those drugs mess with my metabolism and my overall energy level. I cut my eating down to a fourth of what I previously consumed. I still work out. My weight is not changing.
My doctor's only response to this is that I may be predisposed toward obesity and that there are some weight loss drugs that the FDA are coming out with. I hate drugs. Honestly, I would have preferred never to go on the anti-thyroid drugs to begin with as it is very depressing to eat less, work out lots, and see no change.
So the point of this long winded explanation is that not everyone's body is the same at burning calories and that different things will work for different people. Just because you can do it does NOT mean that someone else can.
I highly doubt I'm ever buying a Sony again with the crap I've had to put up with them in their service department. I got a new CD clock radio for christmas. After 4 months, it stopped working. I took it to a sony certified repair shop and they wouldn't fix it because the sony computers said it was only covered for 3 months parts and labor even though I had a HARD COPY of the waranty (always save thos waranties). Sony said that the repair shop should call them to get an authorization. Shop returns saying that Sony won't cover the repair (~70$) because it is two thirds of the original cost of the product. Eventually, I have to ship it to Sony myself for $25 insured and have been waiting over a month while they MOVE THEIR SERVICE CENTER LOCATION and promised me a 10 day turn around. There has been all sorts of crap from their customer service department talking back and forth and unacceptable turn around times (2 weeks for responses). I have this horrible feeling that they are again going to not find the computer notes that say I have a year waranty rather than the default computer.
My SO also had problems recently with his DVD player from Sony and had to take it in under waranty.
However, my Aiwa stereo of 10 years still runs strong. I guess I just have to buy hidden brand sony products.
This guy was way more than a creep. He should have gotten the death penalty IMO. He makes up a fraudulent story about his child missing, he kills her and then makes up a story that she overdosed and that he thought he'd be suspect because of his wife's "dissappearance," and he kills her on the grounds that the girl and his girlfriend don't get along and so he removes the visible "obstruction." People like this should be taken out, not given 672 months in prison with possibility of parole. I don't want someone stupid enough to lie about his child's death (when the coroner can figure it out) out on the street ever again. I wouldn't be surprised if he *did* kill his wife with the crap he tried to pull.
If I had mod points, I'd mod you as a troll for making such an uninformed comment about women.
I don't even know what Paradise Hotel is. It was only recently that I heard Temptation Island was amazingly on its fourth season after hearing nothing since the first season which I didn't bother watching then. Reality shows are crap and I think most women on Slashdot agree with me. I don't know a single one of my female friends that watches them. Oh, I should mention I watch college football and basketball in addition to sci-fi and several other genres of shows.
Fox is trying to hit particular demographs off which to make money and reality-TV hits one of them.
Laws don't help with fax.com. They wardial to find fax numbers. Ever since I hooked up a fax machine to my land line (about a year ago), I have gotten faxes. Their opt out numbers only verify that a person is there. They create false data to show that you asked for their business. They called me up at 3 in the morning repeatedly with their faxes which significantly impared my ability to work the next morning. Junkfaxes.org has lots of information on them.
loses light through the stone (rather than reflecting it inside, though I suspect this could be avoidable with a different cut angle),
and shows apparant wear and tear over time (the soft and chipped edges)
... though you're probably right that I wouldn't see the difference between a diamond and a zirconia just hand cut. I'd also like to point out that I could tell the difference in the above link's pictures of a zirconia, diamond, and moissanite and correctly picked the diamond.
I'm female. I am not a gemologist. I can tell. And despite not having ever liked diamonds in my life, it is hard not to want something similar to what all the recently engaged girls are wearing.
Honestly, I think it would be really neat to have a "life diamond".
It gets worse. I had something like this happen to me on some travel business that came advertised through Turbo tax. You'd think something attached to a very largely distributed program would have a good reputation.
I signed up for the $1 fee expecting to get something travel-ish thing (like luggage) free with the membership. Never got what was advertised. Called them, they gave me some story that I didn't request the proper thing and instead were going to give me "discount coupons" to some hotel I would never use. I told them that I had the program still that clearly advertised what they were to give me. They wouldn't budge. I told them to cancel everything. A month later, I noticed the annual charge on my credit card. That got them a stop payment on that charge plus a call to the BBB.. who despite now having a bad record on them are still corporate whores who will erase larger business complaints.. I think three months later they decided to credit the amount back. But they were still slimes about trying to pull a bait and switch plus slip in charges. I didn't bother trying to get the $1 back as it was four months later.. how many other people find out a company is crap and write it off? How many are pulled in by solid companies carrying their advertisments?
Once this little problem I'm having with Sony gets sorted out (my warranty clearly states a year parts and labor and all of their computers say 90 days.. guess who is supposed to win... I've been fighting with them the past three months) I think I'll post something long and nasty about their service and BS. Until then, I want my electronics fixed damnit!
We use sunblock to protect us against UVA and UVB. Many people with hyper skin production (such as psoriasis) get PUVA and PUVB treatments to kill the skin.... yet there is always the chance of skin cancer...
Is this sounding like a good way to get skin cancer to anyone else? Nothing like the sun focused several times over to get our yearly dosage in one location.
and I saw much of this first hand. I've also seen a couple of documentaries
I was there also. I saw things first hand. For the most part, the protestors were peaceful. There was a small group of anarchists from Oregon who decided to smash things. The first times this happened, the police weren't doing a damn thing. Some of the protesters cornered and surrounded the guys making trouble, but the police wouldn't even come over and arrest them.
The problems started (imo) when people were protesting AND obeying the "curfew zone" and the police were given authority to shoot at random into the crowd. People taken into custody were not given due process and were held in busses in poor conditions longer than legally allowable. I saw some of the bottles thrown right up on capitol hill (this is still Washington State). This was after the police were already shooting and tear gassing. I saw more tear gas canisters thrown back than bottles. And the curfew zone was enlarged at will. I was in a perfectly okayed place when the police decided they wanted to shut down Broadway (street).
Pretty much, us Seattle people were pissed and thank ghod the authoritarian incompetant mayor was voted out.
Another problem is knowing what is fat pounds and what is muscle pounds. At that time of weight training only, I would drop to 155, and then start going back up to hit 160 or 165... fat weight 3 times as much as muscle. Personally, I prefered the 145. And it is harder for women to lose fat from certain areas of their body whether there is muscle there or not. It was only through two hours of dancing every day for about three months that I actually lost the fat on my thighs.
it is possible to have muscle mass under fat. To burn fat, you need both the muscle and the aerobic conditioning. I could only drop to 155 when working weights every day. With aerobics, I dropped to a lean 145.
diet soda is bad. Please see previous slashdot discussions as to why.
Summary: nutrasweet eats holes in your head. It can cause you to become sensitive to it and get severe debilitating migranes as well. I have direct experience as well as many other people I know.
I had to quit the nutrasweet because of how it was messing up my body (used to drink lots and lots of diet soda) and now only drink one can of regular soda a day if I have a soda craving.
Actually, I know a rail thin guy that whenever he wore a certain sports coat, his butt doubled in size appearance and looked fat.
Face it, some clothes make people look fatter or thinner or taller or shorter.. It's just like optical illusions with the lines that the eye is drawn toward.
The smell from sweat is caused by bacterial growth, not the sweat itself. The longer you stay sweaty, the more it is going to smell, regardless of the source. Sweat is merely water and salt: salt to cause your body to sweat (diffusion from a high concentration to low) and the water to use evaporative cooling.
Thank ghod my worksite has showers installed for us bikers.
well i know when i play tekken with my wife, she instantly gravitates towards those characters!
Speaking as a woman, I never felt the urge to play a male character when a female one was readily available. And I'm half asian and specifically gravitated toward the more asian characters: Chun-Li over Cammy, Kitana over Sonja, Xianghua over Ivy... But I think we all realize that the scantily clad-ness is eye candy for the boys.
i think the main problem is that they cant relate to the protagonist in 99% of the games out there. the female urge is not "questing", it's not "me vs the entire world".
Then what about the strong success of the Zelda series? Or Final Fantasy?
You've actually hit one right on the nose with the 3d. It is clearly shown by a test most 11th graders (US) take that women score more poorly when visualizing 3d from a 2d surface (the test asked you to choose what an object would look like if rotated 90 degrees into the page and other spacial visualiziation questions). The reasoning is nurture due to that boys grow up with more hands on spacial projects (auto repair, woodworking, etc) and so learn to think more about 3d aspects.
Of course, I blew all you guys away with scoring off the upper end of the test;) Maybe it's because I built cars with my dad...
I'll agree with you that women probably want more "instant immersion" games where they can pick it up and play rather than having to learn all sorts of combos. Soul Caliber was a great game. Sure it had lots of buttons and I certainly don't have all the combos memorized, but the girls could beat the guys perhaps 50% of the time by just hitting lots of random buttons in rapid succession. Oh, and there was this special button rarely used that I taught my SO for BLOCKING;)
Being a girl, I'll try to give an unbiased opinion in what I observe to be the Trinity effect (since most guys are going to associate her with the character rather than her actual personality):)
She's athletic (which is more attractive than obese), intelligent, confident, witty (different from intelligence alone) aerodynamic (scenes from the first movie diving through the window), the pvc must be counted (as many geeks are attracted to shiny things), reserved in her demeanor (lots of guys are instantly attracted to the "mysterious" woman) and knows about computers!
So while still based on her character, there is more than the pvc to be attributed to the attraction.
Worse yet, there are people applying to college. Most of my friends are quite intelligent and don't get infected so I only got one copy where it talked about your_details.
I got the attachment two days ago from the University of California Davis School of Medicine. It really sucks when you're waiting to hear back about your application. I had given the school my personal address (the one I don't post anywhere for anything).
I opened it in a notepad file and there was something about regedit.exe... so I knew something was up.
Well, I certainly wouldn't go to China while this outbreak is still happening. The main reason is that I am concerned is that the government has been seen to censor what cases actually exist. The second is that there are actual reported cases as well as people breaking quarantine. I haven't heard any actual cases in the bay area (only suspected cases) so I haven't been worried here. A lot of my co-workers have been returning from trips, but I trust that they are monitoring their own health.
I've delayed trips to Asia in general just because I am not familiar enough with how the situation is being handled on the other side of the pond. It's better to know what you're going to have to deal with before going:)
I got hit hard when I found out that CA had not only inter-LATA charges, but INTRA-LATA charges.. basically toll charges within a given area. Then I found out that Costco offered toll phone service.
Costco will give you any needed local or long distance charges through their provider. The company is MCI, but you are getting it as if you were going to provide it to other people rather than end user MCI service. You're getting what the phone companies buy.
5 cents a minute, no monthly fees, and you are billed on 6ths of a second. My SO and I got tired of times when the bill was lower than the cost of a stamp so we sent them a moderate size check and haven't heard from them since.
