I know that using the default Windows XP firewall doesn't make me 31337 and I wish it would let me know when someone tries to hack my machine but I'm satisfied. Are there any known problems with it?
I doubt it, but maybe a few reports like this are all the recording industry nazis need to save face.
So let me confirm those findings with my own independent research. After spending all day logged into Kazaa I saw maybe, like... one guy downloading two files. And they were MIDI tunes. Honest.
Care to explain your cryptic comment? Or was it a poor attempt at sarcasm?
The Windows version of the Mozilla 1.4 installer fails on both of my machines running Windows XP. Never had a problem with any previous version of Mozilla.
I think this release needs to bake a little more before it is ready. After uninstalling Mozilla 1.3 the Windows executable crashed sometime during install... twice... and it won't run even after rebooting the machine. Looks like I'll have to reinstall 1.3...
Return of the King is probably going to end with a ride into the sunset on the ship. I think they'll skip from the wedding right over the scouring of the Shire, which I'm hoping will show up on the DVD but I'm not holding my breath.
So what's wrong with BASIC? Sure, it isn't a great programming language but kids at that age don't need the best. We all started our programming careers that way, didn't we?
But the fact is, the disassembly of Slammer (aka Sapphire) has been available on the Net since late January -- just hours after the worm started to spread."
Well, the earliest they could get a discussion into the print magazine would have been March or April. Maybe they wanted to see how everything played out before writing an in-depth article about it.
No - this film rates as a quick B-film made for the D&D crowd.
Thankfully hardly anyone over a certain age pays much attention to the D&D crowd. Been there, done that, still enjoy it but also have a life now, thanks.
I agree with you that Faramir was done a large disservice in the movie. The detour to Gondor and encounter with the Ringwraith was pointless and it compromised Tolkien's original idea that Sauron had no idea where the Ring was located.
But to let those few mistakes ruin your enjoyment of an otherwise decent film? To become offended about every departure from Tolkein's sacred text?
Get over it. It is just a film. There will be other adaptations of it, possibly within your lifetime. Extreme intellectual snobbery will bring you nothing but loneliness and make you insufferable in the eyes of the rest of the population.
"The Athens PC has a built-in telephone linked to Microsoft's productivity applications. When the hardware receives an incoming call, the software automatically pulls up the caller's contact information and photo if the data are stored on the system."
Just what I've always wanted, a $2000 Caller ID box.
Isn't this guy studying general patterns more than the behavior habits of paranoid Slashdot users?

That's cool but creepy. A professor must feel like he is lecturing to a Borg collective.

Nothing to see here anymore, move along now.
Here is the Mozillazine forum thread.

Does Slashdot have to post every notice about some beta virus or can it just wait until the final version is posted?
The only thing the online trend is going to threaten is greatest hits discs. There will be less reason for them to exist.

Huh?
That's a great point. AOL used to do something similar in their online gaming forums way back when. Now it may not be necessary.
The Onion is looking an awful lot like the New York Times lately...
Given Wal-Mart's clientele, I'm assuming they don't carry Deliverance .

Are C# and F# the two notes that make up the theme to Jaws?
This should be a fun winter. The final Lord of the Rings, Matrix and Star Wars prequel films may be the best ones.

You're an idiot.
"You're under arrest! Please step behind the cop car, away from the cam... er, the headlights."
Microsoft Shopping Network, isn't it?
Argh. Way to go. Now Slashdot is going to be sued for republishing that...
So a thousand home computer users will be able to download still images of an airplane that's about to strike a nuclear reactor. Yeah, that's useful.
