...probably not making more than $40K/yr now out West being a store manager.
Probably because he's a big guy and not a basketball player (370lbs).
I called him 6'10" once and he threatened to kill me for cheating him out of an inch. j/k
lol
...they dont mention that possibly he or one of his neighbors has one or more of the following which in addition to blocking materials in his house/walls are cutting down on the signal. 3 Access points for his house, esh, at $200 a pop? Buy a used orinoco/avaya/lucent ap-1000/ap3/rg-1000 and place an orinoco gold/silver card (cost about $250 on ebay) and pick up a 5db antenna for $30. That'll give plenty of signal in the house, if not, pop a 2nd card in it and run a short low-loss cable outside to the roof and pick up a 12 db antenna for another $100 w/cable and you're still below the $600 airport solution. Oh yes, WEP turned on, and only allow your own card's MAC addresses, turn off SSID broadcast, change the default SSID to something unrelated to you/your house/pet/etc on the AP.
...Id upgrade depending on the price. I paid $75 for the BW version so I would pay another $100 for the color screen, more memory and the higher res camera. I only use it for wireless mail and web, and never bother with the phone function since I have a nokia 5100 cheapie which works fine. I will go with the rumored ($30 unlimited data only, $0.20/min pay as you go cellphone) option. We'll see, wouldnt buy it from compusa since they're a bunch of boobs, unless there's no where else to buy it from than the boobs. Either way, its not for everyone, comes in handy here and there and was cheaper than a Tmobile or Siemens sx-56 for $300-$600 and no unlimited internet.
...while I think most of the time the dumpster is on the company property, this would be stealing as someone else said. If they grab it out of the dump is it illegal, too? I never visited a dump and saw if there was a "NO TRESPASSING" sign, but I would assume these days it is a reality. I think they'll go with the big NO TRESPASSING sign on the dumpster and then they'll be unable to legally enter and remove said items. **shrug**
...I ran The Laser Connection in Clifton, NJ years ago on MajorBBS and loved having people logged in for hours playing CrossWORDS, a real-time chat and Scrabble game. Tradewars 2002, and a few others, all were very popular. I have to get back into more workon the telnet version we have running at www.ssabbs.com, get TW2002 back up and running. Ah, the past, great bbsing before the internet.
...bad to make a customer wait for money so the company can make a profit on the interest. Oh well.
Microsoft sidewinder rebate ($20) - received 2 mo MSN/BestBuy new pc rebate ($100) - received 3 mo Canon/Bestbuy rebate ($80) - received 1 mo TDK CDRs / CompUSA rebate ($10) - received 2 mo CellPhone rebate (nokia?) ($50) - received 1 mo
Overall, I think I might have missed one with a Epson Printer for $30, but that's about all. Maybe a class-action lawsuit would be in order for the biggest Fortune 500 offender if there was a centrally-located tracking system.
Northeast US, Consultant, NT/2000/Novell SysAdmin, 22% pay cut. 300 of us in a major corporation. It does beat being out of work so I am grateful, although I did have to adjust spending.
...sorry I'll keep my Tivo, and let it reschedule, allow me to skip the commercials I want to, and I dont mind the $12.95 a month.
I might possibly try the www.mythtv.com once it matures, but for now, I enjoy my Tivo. Love the fact I bought a refurbed one for $150 and then stuck two 120Gb drives in there for a nice 300hr recording time, and no one to tell me what I can record or not.
I'll wait 10 mins for a nice quality picture of Baghdad in flames. I find it crazy that one should have to pay CNN and MSNBC and ABCNEWS for live video. Sorry, Ill go to bbc.com for live (as crappy as it is) and www.reuters.com for the high quality stuff after 15 mins.
I just picked up a used 2000 Honda Inisght and Im averaging 62MPG just on the 2nd tank. I love it, A/C and stereo and paid less than 1/2 the price of a new one. Hydrogen as a primary source of fuel for vehicles is still a ways away, although right now hybrids is a good path towards the end goal of fuelcells/hydrogen only vehicles. Downsides - a bit of road noise (no wind noise), its not meant to be a sports car, so its not overly fast, and its not really great in snow.
There are many reasons for going hybrid. The reasons are two-fold - cutting emmisions and cutting dependance on foreign oil. Personally, Ill be saving $1000 a year, even after you calculate insurance and filling the tank for $15 a week instead of a SUV for $40 a week. On that $15 I can travel 500-700 miles compared to 450 in the SUV.

Industrial Plastics is where I used to get my platics for costumes and whatnot. Best adhesives you could find for not much, too. Canal street was always the home to cheap electronic modules years ago, you name it - they had it. Ah, the good old days.
Well, the Insight is used, and was paid for, so there's no payment per month. The SUV is paid for as well, so gas is the only issue right now. Being that it is used, there is no tax incentive, but also makes it under half the price of a new one. Cheaper than any other car out there short of a Hyundai or Kia (which I dont find appealing.)
....I never got a chance to drive an EV1, but they were small like the Insight. Whether youre trying to save some money or put your effort into the environment, the Hybrids are a good deal. If you buy a new untitled Hybrid, you're elligible for tax incentives as well. I bought my Insight (70MPG) used and love it for around town and what traveling I do on highway. It beats the 15MPG my SUV gets which I'll have to hold onto for towing and snow.
I miss having my IPAQ with CDPD on it, but $54 a month from AT&T was just too much. AT&T with the siemens I beleive is $29 for the phone, and $39 for the data portion of the bill. I'll have to look into it, and since its not running Palm (from what Im reading), I might seriously consider it.
A coworker of mine has one. Loves it. The only drawbacks to these is the high cost $500 roughly and then you pay a monthly cell bill ($39 600 mins or so) plus a data rate which (40Mb for $39 a month) and the size of having a PDA to your ear to talk. Personally, Id buy one but it has one thing I cannot do without - car and handsfree cradle. I dont want an earbud in my ear, or headphones. I checked with AT&T and Siemens, and no word so far on their plans. You can find out more information on it on www.mobileplanet.com and I thin ZDNET did a story on it.
Battery life is good, screen is one of the best on a PDA, and it can handle any web cept JAva applets if I remember correctly. Speeds are claimed to be 128K best case.
I personally cant test this speed, but when I had an Aircard 300 CDPD, I was getting 9.6-19.2K depending on the cell I was in. Loved that with my Ipaq 3650, but AT&T and Verizon are dropping CDPD service in NJ next year.
As someone else previously mentioned, "boffin" or "boffing" was the act of sexual intercourse in the slang. Probably because Im too young, I never heard of the other definitions for scientists, etc...
I did appear to be one person's opinion of the Everquest universe, but everyone has their own opinion on MMORPGS. I personally became "addicted" to Asheron's Call (1) and then am currently playing Asheron's Call (2). A much smaller fanbase (7K after 3 weeks of release), compared to over 100,000 for EQ, but I also enjoy playing stand alone games, or free online games such as Halo on Xbox, or AoE on the PC. Homeworld is great, Metal Gear Solid on the consoles as well.
One person's alternate fantasy/addiction is another person's misunderstood waste of money. I think we'll see a lot more MMORPGS come out, some come and go, because people want to interact with other human beings, not a bot, not a macro, not a program. I find a great sense of teamwork having 4-5 other humans from around the world, maybe a magic user or two, a melee, two archers and just healing each other, fighting, some witty banter, and not necessarily the big time commitment of EQ, but enjoy to enjoy the sense of community. Also, in the other games, or on specific servers, people want to KILL each other and have a human opponent to defeat. Each to their own.
One of my most memorable moments in online gaming was surprisingly in WWII Online a few weeks ago. I had chosen to play a French rifleman since the town where the action was didnt have any tanks to spawn, and when I appeared in the base, I heard this drone in the sky. It didnt sound like a bomber, or a lone fighter zipping by, I panned up and looked and saw 5 (YES FIVE) bombers almost in perfect formation heading towards the front lines. Now each bomber can have 3+ humans flying in it, all from different places on the internet. How does one fly in formation online with other people on the internet? I was amazed and laughed, but its a sense of teamwork which will keep the masses coming for more for online games.

Nice choice in cars for the unit tho. Sportier than a Honda Insight.

...and we'll see the name of the product and the company name as we Fast Forward the commercial?
TIVO or replayTV, you'll still see the commercial, but it's just a high speed, right? Does REPLAYTV just FF the video, or blank it out?

Just a typo, but looks like there's a dyslexic editor on the Register's website. 5/1/2003 appears to be a bit too far into the future. lol
That has always been my favorite.
The article, although very long and intense is well-written and very educational in the many interpretations of Moore's Law. A good read.
