A pyramid is a massive structure built as a tomb or grave to house and protect the body of a pharaoh for the afterlife and as a monument to honor the pharaoh. It has four triangular sides that meet at a point. Pyramids were made from huge blocks of stone. The largest surviving pyramid is the Great Pyramid of Khufu at Cheops, (located near present-day Cairo). It covers an area of thirteen acres and is made up of two and a quarter million blocks, which each weigh five-thousand pounds on average. Before pyramids were constructed with smooth sides, the sides of the earliest pyramids looked like steps. These stepped pyramids might have symbolized a stairway to heaven which during some periods might have been seen as a way for the dead king to climb up into the sky to become a star and blabla no one is reading this because slashdot readers just automatically give long posts +5 informative without actually giving a fuck about the content and woot free karma baby!
Sorry if this is redundant, I don't really have time to read all the replies at this moment but I would really like to know.
Could someone explain to me exactly HOW one can patent something as "natural" (for the lack of a better word) as aiming a laser at particles to create/accelerate chemical reactions? It seems to me that this is falls under "discovery" more than "invention"...it seems as absurd as patenting the process of harnessing solar power.
I can understand patenting the plans for the laser machine in question, but this is way too broad. I mean, what's to stop me from patenting "the use of Helium 3 to create fusion power", and prevent mankind from using it?
I played a MUD (www.actofwar.com) in the year 2000 or so for the first time in my life after learning about it in IRC. It's a PK (Player Killing) game where you level up and group with other players from your city, to attack the players of one of the 3 other cities. It was addictive as hell, and rewards smart and fast thinking. I'd spend over 12 hours a day playing it. Nothing I could do could stop it...I'd delete my char (it's not very long to level) sometimes, only to make new ones. When there were no enemies on, instead of logging off I'd start a new char from a different class or run the monsters for good equipment.
Over a year later I decided I'd had enough, gave away my chars and deleted ZMUD and never went there again. That's about the same time my friend lended me his Diablo 2 + Expansion CDs with a virgin CD key, and BAM! It started all over again. The first week I was a newbie trying to figure out where to go and how to do things, and 2 months later (due to inredible luck from the random item drops) I'm a rich-as-hell elite possessing the rarest bow in the game, and even though I wasn't having any fun, the preciousness (sp) of those virtual items was way too much to just abandon it all. However eventually the same same scenario happened again: I suddenly realized I was wasting my life, gave away the items, and deleted.
As I type this now, I'm addicted to laziness. I spend my time playing old PC games, games of older consoles via emulation, and downloading music and porn off Kazaa. Once again it's time for a purge except this time it'll be more radical. I'm backing up whatever personal things I've gathered over the years (wacky pictures, rom collections, sex pictures I'm particularly fond of, irc logs, etc) to view again 10 years from now since this is basically the only memories I'll have of my late teenager years, and then I'mformatting my hard drive and giving the computer to my sister.
If anyone else than me has gaming fucking up their life, I suggest they do the same. It might seem too radical, but you don't need that PC, no matter how big a geek you are (and I doubt you're a bigger geek than me), unless you're choosing a career down the road.
Kinda off-topic, but if she's 18 now, and she's been a "poster girl" for years...no, nevermind.
I worry about the sexualization (sp) of underage girls on the internet. I remember those "post pictures of hot chicks" threads at the Something Awful forums that had way too many underage girls. Perhaps an unspoken fetish?
Q: What if Microsoft removes Agent Under Fire from the shelves? A: Don't worry, AUF is one of many games to have this bug..
What I don't understand is why he would pick AUF as the main game if he had multiple choices, and give EA a software sales boost? That's not "screwing MS" (which I'm sure is half the reason for this whole project), that's screwing the entire Xbox gaming community who have to endure horrible ports of horrible EA games with horrible graphics.
Why not a Sega game? Why not a Tecmo game? Why not a game from any other REAL developer who properly support the Xbox with games they work hard on, instead of the videogaming equivalent of Nsync music that EA is?

I apologize for the horrible post. I'm new to Slashdot and thought the paragraph I made in the post box, would show as such in the final post (like in every other message board). Obviously it's not the case.
Could someone tell me how to do linebreaks?
Everytime I hear of a good movie (and after checking IMDB to see if it has a 7+ score), I put it in a list I keep so that one day, when I have a car and a real job and can actively seek them out (my local videostores don't have them), I get them. Please note that some are not underrated like you asked.

I was able to find Exotica a couple of weeks ago. It's a great watch or pretentious flawed crap depending on how (and how deep) you look at it. But I'm glad I watched it personally, it kept me gripped all throughout.
I realize that there is less aversion towards Xbox here than there is towards their PC software, since most people can respect the fact that it's a great console, but I saw some people voice concern about how "the Xbox isn't stopping at videogames, they plan on having Xbox 2 be a multimedia center that would give them control like in the PC industry, scary".
What do you think of the alternatives though? By that I mean Sony, who have openly stated they plan on doing the very things MS wants to do. Allow me to showcase their current product:
-Far weaker system that doesn't even include basic graphical features like anti-aliasing and proper textures -It doesn't support any internal save slot, so you're forced to buy a memory card -It had no hard drive, and the fact that the upcoming one is an add-on (historically, not a single add-on EVER was a success) means that the amount of developers who will make their games utilize its features is about the same as that of PC developers who port their games to Linux -It has no network port, so for online play you're forced to buy it seperately
I can't help but feel that Sony is holding the gaming industry back, while Microsoft gives gamers more than they've ever received from any manufacturer. Whatever happened to supporting the best product?
The reason they say it's not for kids under 13 is probably because you're bound to meet rude people and that would be inappropriate.
If you didn't have dialup, the age thing shouldn't be a problem, you can just tell your kid to only play with people on his buddy list, or better yet, forbid him from using the headset when playing with strangers.
It's no worse than what he hears at school every day anyway.

You can't Buy the TALENT!!! The companies languish. Halo took eternity to ship. Still is 3 years late for mac system! It was demoed in 1999.
Yes, and we all know how THAT turned out.
2000: MS buys Bungie, announces Halo as Xbox-exclusive.
2001: Halo is released within a year of announcement, is awarded Game of the Year by nearly every publication, and goes on to become a multi-million seller.
You should've used a better example, my friend.
autopr0n, you make it sound like Rare shouldn't get credit, just because they didn't come up with DK.
All Nintendo supplied was the DK name...the games got popular because Rare made great games. A mascot on its own is worthless and Nintendo doesn't deserve any credit for any of Rare's successes.
FYI, MS does not get Donkey Kong. However they do get Perfect Dark, Killer Instinct, Conker, Blast Corps. Their first Xbox game will be the once-Nintendo-exclusive Kameo.
Mein laben! I was expecting +5 funny and got -1 troll :/
