I remember reading an article years ago about how how the big pharmaceuticals don't invest enough research in antibiotics and how drug resistant bacteria is the new epidemic. The reason the pharmaceutical companies don't research new antibiotics is because there is no money in it. Why create a drug that a person only takes for a few weeks when you can create an anti-psychotic that people will take for years? It's a sad world.
It wasn't the radio that killed the record industry, it was MTV.
David Crosby (The Byrds and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) gets it right. He said, "It [MTV] changed it from being about the music to being about what you look like. And that was a terrible blow to music, because now you've got all these people who look great and can't write, sing, or play."
Once MTV hit, the record labels learned that they could make easy money by signing artists that looked good, whether they could really sing or play an instrument. The labels hired image consultants for their artists to tell them how to look/act so they sell. This business model led to less talented artists being signed, which explains why there is so much crappy music today, which is why people buy less music.
The Grateful Dead did it right - let your fans record your shows, but charge money for the concerts. I wish all artists would release their music as free downloads, but of course pay to see them perform live.
I'm getting sick of these Slashdot stories that are just ads.
This 'Digital Camera Buyer's Guide' is just a pretext to try to sell 'digital camera bundles'.
This whole PR stunt is just an ad for the printer manufacturer.
Rodger Cosgrove, president of Entremedia, a direct marketing firm and a member of Reason's board, assisted in coming up with a program that allows the subscriber list to be integrated with satellite photographs. He also worked with Xeikon, the manufacturer of the printer that made the endless customization possible.
Whenever I came across this warning you find in your computer manual, it made me chuckle. Next thing you know, you'll find the same warning on software.

As the cost of technology drops, it makes it more available to the average Joe.
When desktop publishing changed the printing industry in the 80's, did we see the price of newspapers/magazines/books drop? NO.
When non-linear editing changed video production, did we see the price of movies drop? NO.
Hard disk recorders (like ProTools) have been around for a long time. Now that the price is at a point most people can afford, will we see the price of music drop? I don't think so.
Pro Tools is a great program and they have a free version that lets you only record 8 tracks.
Scam o Rama is devoted to receipients of 419 scam letters responding in commical replies. Very funny and entertaining. One guy convinced a scammer to send him a gold sample which he used to buy beer.
I don't see it happening...
Sega wants to be an independent developer.
If they sold out to Microsoft, they would make boat loads of money from the sale, but would be stuck developing exclusively for the xbox which would limit their future potential earnings.
Sega knows they can make more money developing for 3 systems, rather than selling themselves to Microsoft.
I can see Sega buying other software development houses, though.
I agree. I have been using Macs since '93 when I got into graphic design. Quark is the standard in the print world. The reason I haven't upgraded to OS X is because of Quark. I'm still running OS 8.6 with Quark 5. People said OS X would take off when Photoshop was released for it. I think OS X will really take off when QuarkXpress is released for it.
I'd rather use the T1 connection at work. Dial-up is fine for home use. If there is anything I need, I download it at work at use my iPod to transfer to my home computer.

You must have been there some time ago. Sony closed the store on Chicago's Michigan Avenue this year.
In the U.S., I can see recording a talk show or NPR for a later date, but with all the Clear Channel owned crap, what is the point.

A good artist copies,
A great artist steals.

The screen shots on the blizzard site look like they are in a wide screen format. Does this mean it will play nice with a 16x9 HDTV?
