As each day passes, there is yet one more reason to quit using the crap that M$ disses out. With the rules so skewed towards M$'s benefit, who can make any money in the Windows environment other than M$? How many good applications are going to have to follow M$ rules or die? Instead of dying, how about porting to Linux? When there are only 5 M$ XP approved apps and 200 Linux apps on the shelf, what do you think people are going to do? Do you think that they may eventually remove the WinCrap from their machines and move Linux?
Quit playing Monopoly with Bill. Switch to one of many non-Microsoft products today.
The penalty for treason is death. I think public hanging for Bill Gates (Napolean) is just punishment.
This just reinforces yet again that the M$ way and Windows is just the wrong approach. First, they blackmail you with their licensing terms, then they turn around and make it that much harder for you to maintain a secure network with their software.
I guess they are just creating a business justification for Palladium. (Quote from an M$ marketing droid) See here... Palladium will protect you from the bad ass Chinese government.
Since now the DSL vendors have to string something for the last mile, how about fiber? They can use the extra bandwidth to outsell the monopoly telcos by providing higher bandwidth Internet service, digital phone service and video on demand. Since they don't have to worry about carrying the overhead for the obsolete stuff, the cost of doing this can be quite reasonable. Using VOIP for the phone service they could offer services that the POTS telcos could not! Use the video on demand to sell the Internet portion. Since there is plenty of bandwidth, provide a complete package to tie in multiple computers, multiple TVs, multiple phones and wireless. Since they are no longer telcos (as defined by the FCC rules) they don't have to worry about the regulations.
If the DSL providers compete on a different level they can win this. This decision was a result of the FCC being bought by the telcos. Plain and simple.
Hotmail and other ISPs (namely AOL) sell their membership lists to make additional revenue. Their terms prevent such spamming for ordinary users, but they have other classes of users for which they charge a higher rate for the priveledge to spam. When you buy one of these accounts, you also get access to their membership.
Run away from this company! If they are willing to infringe on your privacy at this stage of the hiring process, what will the do when you are on their payroll fulltime? Is this really the company you want to work for?
I've already solved this issue. It's simple, don't use Word or Excel formats. Use PDF for all communications outside of your organization. Readers for a wide variety of platforms exist and make printing the document a very simple excercise. For documents that are not created electronically we either use the Adobe Acrobat writer which allows you to scan in directly and save the file as a PDF file, or we use ECopy (www.ecopy.com) which does a similar thing. We ask our partners to send us only PDF files in return. We have configured our email system to reject all Office attachments, and to send a reply to the sender to send us only PDF files. PDF can be edited or exported if need be. This has allowed us to slowly remove all M$ software from our environment. Our goal is be be M$ free this year.
I manage over 300 Linux servers and 10 Windows NT servers which we will be switching over to Linux later this year. I also manage a mismash of Win98, WinME, Win2K, WinXP and Linux desktops across the US. There is no doubt in my mind that managing the Linux boxen is orders of magnitude easier than any of the M$ crappen. This year we plan to convert all of the M$ crappen over to Linux because of the M$ licensing blackmail. Those Linux servers at one time were WinNT servers that constantly needed attention due to security hacks. First it was Code Red, then Nimba, then the SNMP hole. All of this had my techs running around the country patching things because patching remotely was totally unreliable. Linux admins can definitely handle many more boxen than WinCrappen admins because they have less fires to put out. And when they do crop up, there are patches within a week that can be applied remotely. The TCL (total cost of licensing) in the M$ world is going to get even worse with their new licensing blackmail scheme. It mandates that you upgrade every two years, regardless of whether your business truley needs to upgrade. By the time you finish with one upgrade, you'll have to start another. How many servers can you handle then? (1-5 at best!)
The latest licensing scam from M$ removes all backward licensing. You promise to upgrade your licenses and install the software upgrades within the 2 year mark. This has been told to me and my boss by a M$ droid in no uncertain terms. Betcha, we are ripping out all M$ software as fast as possible and replacing it with OSS.
I've used these devices extensively. (Snapservers - www.snapservers.com). They are Linux based NAS devices that take no more than 10 minutes to set up. They are much more superior than anything than M$ can dish out. They have different performance levels at very reasonble prices. These devices eliminate the blackmail that M$ has been attempting with their new licensing scheme.
Yeah, and look at what's happening at Boeing today. They used to be the leaders in the aerospace industry, but now they are consistently being beaten by Airbus. Airbus has made significant inroads into its basic market. Even american airline companies have been buying Airbus airplanes instead of Boeing. Face it, unions add additional bureacracy that suck they life out of the industry. It removes the flexibility of management to adjust the company's structure, direction and expenses as the situation and competition requires. In addition, an excellent company should be on a regular basis firing the bottom 10% of its work force. This is to remove the underperforming from the company payroles, and make it more leaner, meaner company. Unions remove this ability, and in no time, the top performer employees have left the company to other better pastures, and the company is left with all of the rejects, with no ability to do anything about it.
Once an industry becomes unionized that industy will be destroyed in a short period of time. Lets see how many I can name:
Auto workers This is why we drive Japanese cars and not American.
Communication workers (CWA) - This is why our phone systems are still rooted in 1940's technology and is still the biggiest expense for any real business.
Airlines (pilots, mechanics, and stewardices) - This is why United is about to go belly up.
Textiles This is why all of our clothes say "Made in China" or "Made in Taiwan"
Teachers - This is a big reason of why Johnny can't read
Construction industry - This is why it costs 10 times more to build in the US than it does overseas.
Teamsters - enough said
Shall I go on. Unions are a big scam. They don't stand for making the employee a better employee. They stand for putting up as many roadblocks as possible to prevent improvements that would cause their members to lose their jobs. In the painting industry, members are not allowed to paint a wall using sprayers because they would finish the job in 1/10th of the time it would take to do it by using a roller. In the teachers union, it takes 5 years to fire a teacher who has been found sexually abusing children. This is what unions give us.
Ask yourself, would you trust your future to such an organization? Sorry, but I'll take my chances. I can improve myself and if I don't like the work environment, I can leave. My opportunities are much better than being part of a unionized (communist) group.
The only thing keeping us on Microsoft products is that there are no good project management apps. We have searched high and low for good open source CPM, scheduling and project management tools, but haven't found any as good as the commercial Windows products that are out there. For the construction industry, these tools are vital, because margins are so small and any slip up is deadly.
I had bought 15 such drives 1 1/2 years ago for custom clones. All of these drives have since died. Never again will I buy Fujitsu. Its not that they died (other vendors are no better). Its the fact that they lied, and gave me no support in resolving the issue. They didn't even care that their products were failing with such a high rate. In that same period of time, I had bought some Western Digital drives, that have since died also. But when I called WD, and gave them the S/N they sent me a replacement drive, no questions asked. Compare the two and tell me who you would like doing business with. Vendors who don't stand by their products should be run out of business. Would I buy a Western Digital drive today? You betcha! Would I buy another Fujitsu? No way! Not even if they paid me!
All it takes for evil to thrive is for good men to keep silent. Your attitude is reminicent of that before World War II. Most American's response to Hilter's conquest was exactly word for word what you said. (If the French won't fight for their country, why should we? ) History has shown us time and time again that evil will certaintly thrive in this climate. What will you say when China will attack the US? If you don't believe this is feasible, just look at their enourmous military buildup, their cosyness to the Arab world, and their anti-US attitude in everything they do. It's just a matter of time. Your attitude allows for them to succeed.
How about CRAP (Computer repair and administration practitioner)? ;)

Companies like the are run by PHBs.

Its simple! Lets all stp using Java and instead start using Microsoft5's .NET replacement! ;)
I would send this to the guys at f*ckedcompany.com. Its just a matter of time till your company appears on that list.
