Why should anyone bother? Why should we insult the poor guy? I prefer to put a smile on my face and think to myself how fortunate I am for not being involved in OS wars anymore.
I love the design of the G4 cases, but there is one thing that really sucks big time: they are noisy. My MDD case vibrates so much it causes a clearly audible hum. When I press the door firmly against the case, the hum stops. A different case would be a nice thing now...
Those who crammed their heads up their asses and used the "archive and install" or upgrade methods to put Panther on.
Fun fact: the version of Panther that is shipped with the Mac OS X-Up To Date program does not permit a clean install - only update and archive and install are possible. Thanks, Apple...
I love x.x.1 releases. Reminds me of the time when everybody was waiting for System 7. (And yes, that wait *was* long.) On one occasion I saw someone wearing a t shirt with "I am waiting for System 7.0.1" on it...
In theory, iSync and iCal now sync with Sony Ericsson's P800 phone. In theory...
I did get the contacts syncronized, but was not lucky at all with calender dates. iSync always ends up with "NSRangeException: [NSCFString
substringWithRange:]: Range or index out of bounds"
Sorry, I *did* mean 'high'. Here's some information I found:
"5 V keyed or signalling cards do not work in the Power Mac G5 computer". Basically, many existing PCI cards will not fit the PCI connectors of the Power Macintosh G5. You will have to buy an external PCI chassis if you want to use these cards (and the DC30 series cards) with a G5. According to Apple, this applies to all G5 computers; according to other sources, it applies only to the 1.8 and 2 GHz, while the 1.6 GHz has no limitations in accepting PCI cards.
Nowadays a dual 1.25 GHz G4 starts at 1600 Eur in Europe. (That's roughly the same in US$.) A single G5 starts at 1800 Eur. Since I am about to replace my G4/400, there a couple of things I thought about: The G4 is cheaper. The G4 does multiprocessing for the price. The G4 is able to boot OS 9. The G5 isn't. The G4 is compatible with my low voltage PCI cards. The G5 isn't. The G4 is available today. The G5 isn't. The G4 ist a pleasure to look at. The G5 isn't.
A company named Icom Simulations created adventure games with a genuine Mac GUI: Deja Vu, Uninvited and my all time favorite: Shadowgate. Would love to play those again.
You got any proof of this? I mean yes, it could be a likely situation, considering how Apple boasts Safari's speed. But then again, it could also be just speculation...
With Premiere you can directly record analog video, Final Cut Express only lets you record from digital sources. Apart from that, FCE seems fine for my purposes. If anyone could recommend a good recording application, I'd be really glad.
Color NeXTStation Turbo (which was the fastest unit they ever made).
That is not true. It is the fastest unit NeXT ever *sold*. They had prototypes running with dual 68k and single PPC cpus.
Also there were Nitro and Pyro boards that could accellerate stock NeXTs.

What for? Similar applications have been available for Mac OS X for quite some time. To name only one: StreamRipperX.

That's good to know, thanks. Now, if Apple would only deliver the update...

Cleaning the clock is pretty similar to removing dirt from the watch, if you know what I mean. ;)
Here is an mpg version of the clip.
Eat this. It's an mpg version of the clip.
1.5.0 was last seen in Panther Beta 7b85.

Anybody got an idea what that is about?
No more transparent dock - but other than that everything seems to be just fine.
Actually, it's the ctrl key - but that doesn't make it any better. Ctrl-click is a pretty bad substitute for a second mouse button.
That's only because of the free iPod that comes with the Beetle. ;)
The ones that are 5V-only aren't the kind of thing that I would put into a $2K machine
I really want to keep my miroMotion DC30plus frame grabber. That thing once cost a fortune... *sigh*
The trick is not to buy at the Apple store. That might be cheap in the states but not in Europe. Look here for german pricing.

Why on earth should I choose a G5 over a dual G4?
> The only surprise to me in that list is i860.
The NeXTdimension grapics board available for NeXT Cube systems used an i860.

When the 60 GB iPod comes out, I will sell my 5 GB iPod for $350. ;)

Did you reboot after the update? I did, and I can't do anything on my desktop without entering the screen saver password.
There has been CADintosh for quite some time. It is OS X native and cheap.
