There's no such thing as a "proprietary form" of Linux. The kernel is released under the GPL, and therefore any derivations/modifications must be released under the GPL, and hence are not proprietary. If they deny source code, or release it under a license non-compatible with the GPL, it will be clearly illegal.

You would imagine that people would know this by heart by now...

Yes, therefore no more research should be done in this area. :-)

    And from wikipedia:

TRON itself does not specify the source code for the kernel, but instead is a "set of interfaces and design guidelines" for creating the kernel. This allows different companies to create their own versions of TRON, based on the specifications, which can be suited for different microprocessors. The specification of TRON is open, but the code generators are not required to make their source free unlike with the GNU General Public License. The TRON project permits the source to be protected and closed from the standpoint of intellectual property.

Which I think means most TRON systems are proprietary, and makes the idea of embedded linux even more interesting.

It is not Free Software, because if you want to fork the whole program and call it by another name for instance, you're not allowed. You have only the freedom to modify it under the very narrow conditions the license specifies.

It's also not clear (at least to me) if it's OK to include gnuplot code in other programs. If it's not OK, then it's a lot more proprietary than Free.

What you are teaching your kid is that an animated character on screen shooting another animated character is a bad thing. I strongly object to this, and I think you're sending a screwed up message to your kid saying that what happens in video games is analogous to what happens in real life. You are essentially destroying any reference of what is real and what is not.

I think it's precisely when kids buy into this crap that is put forth by parents and media that they go completely crazy and start being violent in real life.

There's also another important information relevant to this: Humans babies take longer to develop than most mammal infants. Most mammals are walking and poking around quite sooner than human babies.

This is because the human brain continues to develop after birth. It actually gains a lot of volume during childhood, outside the womb. That's why it takes longer for human babies to develop and it's what allows us to have large brains without causing huge birth death rates.

Are you saying gay men aren't men?

These differences are more than just physical. They are also mental and emotional. They are not learned or forced. They are a fundamental part of their being.

Ever heard of gay men and women? And what about bisexuals? It's a choice you make to be heterosexual or otherwise. It may be unconcious, but it's a choice. There's nothing fundamental about sex choice, much less fields of interest.

It would be really weird to see a group of men calling themselves "masculinists" dressing up like women and trying to be better women than women.

I've seen some drag queens that look much more feminine than most women.

And I hardly think that if a girl likes computers and science that's going to make her more masculine. And if it did, it would be because of social values that are completely artificial and have nothing "fundamental" about them.
