the confirmation of a linux client has come from articles like this one telegraph.co.uk and they have definitely been working on it as people have downloaded and actually run some of their linux code, however there has been no actual confirmation directly from valve.
tbh i don't think porn companies have anything to lose even by exclusively using xxx domains, they're already filtered at most work places and if they aren't forced to go onto xxx then there's no reason to make dumb laws about trying to block it for kids.
meh, the filter is stupid but it's just a dumb blacklist. I'm really not that worried that the government is somehow going to monitor 10 million internet connections for shits and giggles.
it's largely irrelevant, there is no way the network will go ahead, the liberal party will run interference till they eventually get into power and nuke the whole thing. imho i pretty much agree with you but i think fibre to the node even when un-economical would be A Good Thing, but fibre to the home is probably going too far.
I'm sorry but you're wrong, the phrase "Begs the question" has been used widely over time with different correct and incorrect intents. The English language, being the whore that it is, pretty much allows you to make any word or phrase mean anything over time, as long as you use the generally accepted meaning at the time. In this case it seems used correctly as the new generally accepted meaning of the phrase "begs the question" is "I'm putting this here to annoy Grammar Nazis".
I'd say just use dial up, but having tried to activate single player mode on half life 2 previously i know the foolhardiness of that quest. Hopefully they at least make it able to activate over dialup.
you're absolutely right, i think games are too expensive, but i think it's easier to tell them to get stuffed rather than paying an extra $2 per game per month than it is to get them to drop their prices by %10. as it is i pretty much only buy my games when they drop in price after a few months.
couple of reasons:
1. it means there will be less people online, meaning the overall online experience will be worse
2. sure you can say that the $2 a month is for online, but it's all just money. the $2 a month could just go straight to new porshes for the managing directors.
sure there are costs but you have no idea what they are, what the profit margin is and if they even lose that much money running servers, so you point is pretty much moot.
the problem is the online multiplayer on psn is shit, i play online games a lot on pc but i've only ever played a few games of tekken here and there on ps3 cause it's just a pain in the butt. if it was pay to play i would guess that quite a few people would just stop playing online.
Microsoft refuses to commit to a canvas tag, maybe you should learn to internet? Maybe *you're* confused between the canvas tag and svg support? the register
IE 9 doesn't support canvas but it does support SVG. you *could* do a an IE 9 version of this demo in svg and i'd argue it would probably look better in svg, but i wouldn't as the lack of canvas tag support feels like ms sending a big fuck you to web devs once again.
not that i agree with your sentiments but the connection from the client to the server would still be uber fast. It would just seem to be regular fast connection gamers with very poor reflexes. they might be getting a slide show at the next hop but that won't affect what they look like in the game world.
clicked on volume icon, clicked configure, clicked inputs tab and was presented with a slider for microphone boost/volume and a dropdown to select the input... looks and works way better than 9.04 (haven't looked in 9.10). Where were you looking?
heh, in my opinion if you'd installed 9.10 you'd be seeing vast improvments with 10.04. 9.10 was *not* polished. That said i think a lot of the work in this release has gone into the whole ubuntu one/cloud/desktop integration. If you don't use that stuff you probably won't see much else
there's only about 5 distros you need to support tho, and that's probably being a little generous.

chrome's got an alright engine, they just need to fix up the interface... sticking to firefox for now.

you're assuming that most programmers are competent, assuming that 1 out of 3 programmers are total gits this method looks a lot better

to be honest i'd probably target the ones that weren't expecting it, hopefully i'd get a bigger percentage of 90 million than i would of 900 million
5% is still like 90 million computers, most of which without av software

meh, i'd prefer this if i don't have to have a cd in the drive

pulseaudio doesn't seem to be hassling me (bit of a first), flash was a bit annoying till i installed it via the software centre

well, if yeast doesn't produce much bad gas it might be a net win
Why are people enrolling in comp sci? they should have a grizzled veteran try to scare them off before they enroll, it's only humane.
