I'm pretty sure there's more than a couple of people paying, A little bit of research shows that the BBC earns around 3.4 billion pounds a year from them (assuming they mean the 2007/2008 financial year and not both years in there). Expecting a SINGLE person to pay for a SINGLE persons costs for one tv episode is just dumb.
That's a pretty good point, possibly because everyone who would use itunes is already doing it? I've been scared off by their crappy interface before, and the way they charged *more* for not having DRM in the past, i just assumed that they had jacked up their prices across the board without really thinking about it. Probably should curb my piracy and give it another shot.
I don't even think he was hinting that python was the "one" language, you can possibly tell that by the way he was talking about it works so well with c++ and java.
Heh, i've had way more trouble getting macs to do usefull stuff than linux. Usually it's a case of "macs don't do that, buy this shareware software to fill the glaring gap in the OS functionality". But just buy whatever you want i guess.

Huh, that's pretty interesting, the next question is why do gamespy hate linux? I did a little googling and found this: http://www.prounreal.com/?t=73341&f=180 [prounreal.com] but it's mostly about server issues, however the fact that icculus has never hinted at any other issues than the initial legal problems does point the dirty finger straight at gamespy. Well, lets just hope steam kills them eh?
Yah, their "Trouble" is a position that both apple and canonical could only dream of being in. IMHO it will take 10 years or more of them making every wrong decision to put any real dint in their market share, and i don't know why, but a lot of people think windows 7 made a lot less wrong decisions than you think.
I think valve are mostly looking at doing a linux version of steam and the hl2 engine because Microsoft are looking for any way they possibly can to robustly fuck them in the anus, and not necessarily because of any obvious financial gain directly from the linux community as it is.
It took the guys MONTHS to get it running in linux, and no, it probably wasn't worth the effort (it worked pretty well in wine anyway) for the 82 sales it will get them (including me) but good work anyway.
afaik hosting a torrent site is %100 legal in the country they're hosting it in, so the court case is really about whether more liberal countries can stand up to "the man" or if "liberal" is actually a word meaning "hasn't been offered enough money to betray their principles yet"
Apple have been bitches in the past, for example, there were various times where you COULD NOT install quicktime without itunes, or itunes without safari. Apple are quite often absolute pricks, and while i really dislike google apps due to weight and feature creep, that does not make apple any less guilty of the same crimes
It's not so much sue in this case, it's just adding functionality to make sure microsoft.net is *the*.net. You'd have to admit most of the work that's been going on in the framework is on stuff external to the actual core.
There is no way in hell that windows does more than linux default, most mainstream distros include open office, the gimp, and unless i've forgotten something, an app to do pretty much every other mundane thing that windows does by default.
Sure they could, but it's hard and they have close to no motivation to do so.
Give it a couple years and most big console releases won't be worth having without a patch or 2.
That movie would have been 1000% better if they'd tried to invade on a rainy day.

Unless the US asks real nice.

None, but i spent a much larger percentage than your average millionaire.
What's the difference? they're still taking money out of the machine. 100 people on 30k will keep a lot more money moving than 1 person on 3 mill

The idea of no more crime is so ludicrous at this point as to be not worthwhile considering.

They already got icculus to do the work, there's some mysterious legal hold up tho http://planetunreal.gamespy.com/pagetools/pagetools.php?act=printnews&id=145570 I doubt they will ever release it at this point, but maybe someone can get icculus drunk and find out wtf actually happened

This one is full of fucking LOLcats and Rick Astley

Your opinion is invalid because it is different to mine.

If you include itunes as part of it's ui, then i'd have to disagree with you.

Those standards cover C# and the CLI (which i'm sure you're aware of) which makes up about 1% of the mass of the actual .net framework.
