The way that I look at online journalism is quite different then how I look at mainstream, 'real' stuff. In today's world of the web, any yahoo(tm) can get his own website, and post any old dam thing he wants.

Imagine that, on a whim, I registered 'citizencsnewszone.com' and posted an article titled "Linus T, Creator of Linux, Killed in Car Accident," I would (most likely) get tons of visitors, who, after reading the story, assumed it had some kind of merrit, and would start spreading the 'news' around.

I'm not against ALL online news sources, however. I am particularly fond of CNN, due to the fact that they have a reputation.

  9. My Take on MP3s. on Politicians, Napster, And The Invention Of The Net · · Score: 1

While not DIRECTLY on topic, this post has to do with music online.

A few weeks ago, I downloaded the Papa Roach CD from Napster, because I heard it was good. It was, very good in fact. Based solely upon what I obtained illegally, I bought the CD, because it was worth my money. The same thing happed with Limp Bizkit's new CD, Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. It rocks, so I wanted to show my support to the artist. (Heh.)

Before I came across Napster, however, I was forced to make music-purchasing decisions based solely upon what I heard on the radio. Sure, ONE of the groups songs might be good.. but what happens if the rest of the CD is crap? (Such as 'The Offspring - Americana') I never listen to Americana, because it sucks. (IXNAY was excellent however.) This is where the problem lies.

I don't know how it works in the states, but here in Canada, you can't simply return a CD because it is bad. The only way you can return it if it is either 1) un-opened, or 2) defective. Either way leaves me royally pissed off. I want my $20 back for Americana.. I don't listen to the dam thing.

Personally, I'm hoping for the radiation one. There's nothing I'd like better then to wake up one morning, and being able to shoot lazers out of my eyes. 18. My Programming Fundamentals Teacher on H-1B Visas Increased In 96-To-1 Vote · · Score: 1

I'm currently attending the University of Winnipeg, with my aim to get a BSc in Computer Sciences. Now, the majority of the classes are taught by a woman who's english is obviously her second language. (Think Mrs. Swan from MadTV. No joke.) Now, I know quite a few people from other countries, and I'm good friends with a few of them. The problem lies in the situation.

Right now, she is teaching us C programming. (Specifically, file reading and writing.. but she hasn't taught IF statements yet. Go figure.) Because her english is so broken, it is quite difficult to understand what she's saying, or follow her what she's saying period. And, because english is her second language, (the first being Japanese) instead of talking to the CLASS, she talks to the ceiling -- searching for each word before she says it.

For me, it's not really an issue -- I know all of the material. However, I believe it IS an issue for the students who are new to programming. If I have such a problem following her, imagine what the people who have never used an IF-THEN-ELSE statement are going through.

Now, it being a University course, you are paying for the class, and for the knowledge. But if you can't understand what the hell the teacher is saying, then what's the point? Are the other students in the class getting their money's worth? As it stands, no.

So, what can I do about it?

(Yeah, I know this is slightly off-topic, my apologies.)
