You must have watched a different Oscar ceremony than I did. He most definitely was not eloquent, he was an loudmouth that irritated people instead of inspiring them.
Sorry, but this is just plain bullshit. I run a farm of Win2k servers, and have never (NEVER) experienced the things you complain of.
Of course, I have the software properly installed on good hardware. And I don't try to run DNS, AD, Exhange, SQL and IIS all on the same box with 2000 people connected.
I have heard complaints about NT, 2k and how unstable they are. The only issue with MS and server products is security, not stability. There are costs associated with either product.
Porn-a-tized comics/catoons have been longer than the web... how many faxes have I received over the years... each one degrading a little bit more as it gets passed along.
BBS' were pretty good about warehousing that crap too.
"....what about all of the "lifetime subscriptions" that people bought?"
That is exactly why I have never taken the plunge. I don't want to invest in hardware that (more or less) requires the company to be around for it to work properly. For example, the only broadband options in my area are fixed point wireless. The problem is that I have to invest $500 in the hardware. What happens when they disappear in a year or two? I am stuck with useless hardware (unless someone else offers the service).
I guess the dot com mess is still fresh in my mind...
but that thing is just silly. Who the hell wants something that large on the coffee table?
Given the price and size of this thing, I would rather invest in a tablet PC and utilize the IR port on it (if it has one). Plus, if you have kids, this is a disaster waiting to happen.
As a side, I have played with my iPaq as a uber-remote. I ditched it in favor of using my Sony universal remote.
Effective immediatly, all employees are urged to boycott the purchase of Slurpies. This includes all flavors (even my favorite, Code Red).
Thank you for your support.
Your pal,
Billy G.
I just found a tool that can answer most questions like that... don't tell anyone, it'll be our little secret!
Kinda frightening that there are so many posts with this same logic.
Did you have a hard time uninstalling it? :-)
I beleive that is exactly what he meant, but not limited to humans.
Well, if you are going to call people stupid, you should be a little more aware of your own actions.
".... and Moore did so eloquently."

"your" right, I am the one that's stupid.
Anyone that I have talked to about Moore thinks he is a knucklehead, much less power to sway American opinion.
"Except in the US, where it can make you rich and powerful. Just ask Michael Moore."
I'm sorry, did you really mean cynical and fat? He certainly is NOT rich and powerful. Why else would he have hijacked the Oscars?
"...Comp Repair (A/Net+) class we've been watching The Matrix all day.."
Great! Could you send me your resume? I was looking for some qualified techs!

How I love a frosty one. Pist that is.
Boner.
Re-read the comment, this time do it more slowly. I know that all those words are confusing.
How do they prevent people outside the company from owning stock?
That IS powerful technology.
Read the comments posted at the end of the article :-)

Try apple to apple comparisons... they work much better.
"Like a true geek, I prefer to observe rather than participate."
See, that is why you geeks never get laid.
"I.E. most likely never."
An interesting way of putting it. Perhaps you should switch to some other abbreviation when talking about security!
Do you really hope to compete with Microsoft, or are you more interested in making money with pre-loaded systems sold via retail?
Personally, I cannot see how you could convince someone to forgo the next Windows release in favor of Lindows.
Specically, the private sector race to the moon. An excellent read.
I was suprised that a couple of these private companies are launching later this year.
1) I would like to see the software reveiwed somewhere with some accounting creds (or just some mainstream software creds).
2) I must stop using the word "creds".
3) MoneyDance, IMHO, is not a very professional sounding name. It sounds like shareware.
"...but we keep experiencing irritating little gremlins with them."
For god's sake, do NOT DROP THAT PHONE IN WATER!
Consider yourself warned.
