"I mean, 'car' to grab the first element of a list, and 'cdr' to grab all the others? It can get downright confusing sometimes."
I completely agree.
LISP implementors still insist on the use of the acronyms 'contents of address register' and 'contents of decrement register' when these are now completely irrelevent and redundant and have been for what? Decades? Is there still a LISP implementation in production use that uses address and decrement registers in this way?
'head' and 'tail' will do just nicely and be less confusing.
The language is 'living in the past', so to speak.
(By the way, 'LISP' stands for 'Lots of Insidious, Spurious Parentheses' but thats a whole nother troll).
A true paranoid probably wouldn't use computers at all.
I worked with a borderline clinical paranoid and systems he developed were all but totally unusable by anyone else. Uneccesarily complex, hard to understand; deliberately so because he was paranoid. Trying to cover every possibility, endlessly chasing imaginary, potential bugs that might possibly be found by someone at some time in the future. Just in case.
"instead we'll send drone airplanes and robots to do the fighting."
Actually, if the demographics are anything to go by, the USA will *need* to do this; not enough youg people are considered 'fit for military service' to effectively replace combat losses.
This is not something that the US military government wishes the world to know (that their military is a paper tiger), hence the figures which would lead to these conclusions were quicly removed from the CIA world factbook.
Sure, they can blow the crap out of your country but they can't take and hold ground.
China on the other hand, (probably) generates more new recruits every year than the USA has in its entire military.
Even Sierra Leone has a higher percentage of the total population 'fit for military service' than the USA.
IMO, this is the only thing holding the yanks back from total world domination.
"Full height 5.25 drives that would burn fingers and break your foot too, if you dropped it. I think it weighs close to 10 pounds. It'd probably still work after the fall"
And the armature magnets will be powerful enough to lift a car. Neat!
Seriously, if any of these drives die, salvage the magnets, but be careful with them or you *will* lose a finger.

And, IIRC, the licensing costs for the manufacturer are significantly higher.

Noone who created GNU Emacs could possibly be even nearly paranoid...
Yes, that sounds about right
:)
It doesnt work; I removed 'Lord of the Rings' from my preferences because I am so freaking bored of the rings.
But I still see the articles on my front page.
Exactly.

How useful is that?
Not very.
You should see the moderation history of that post. For every one that mods it -1 overrated or -1 flamebait it gets a +1 insightful or +1 funny.
It now appears to be sitting at +5 insightful. I don't think it was truly an insightful post though...

but paying tax alone isn't enough?
Or Is IBM, for example, a US citizen?
I get that problem too.
:)
But since you've made clear that you arnt an idiot, I'll change that. The system has worked
so its either citizenship OR paying tax not citizenship *and* pay tax?
Hah, suck on my "+5 Funny" Mr Butter. If that is your real name.
So, the only requirement for getting a voice, the only qualification, is to pay taxes?
And so corporations should not be enslaved -- owned by other people.
The emancipation of the corporation!
Freedom for the corporation!
Do not deprive a person of life, liberty or property! *Liberty* gentlemen, *Liberty* means not being 'owned' by shareholders or a board of directors!
Take it to its logical conclusion or don't take it at all.
"...the fact they will kill anyone who got in their way without question was pretty frightening"
Like US military patrols on the streets of Iraq.

Actually, I'd far rather they have clones than adopt... Its the only decent reason I can think of for reproductive cloning.

"I'm not sure why you're bringing glass into this but it isn't a liquid."
:)
I forgot the smiley, it was a play on the old urban myth about glass is a liquid.
It'll get modded 'off topic' now, you watch.
"or nuclear matter in its ordinary (cold) state"
So glass really is a superfluid then?
"What about all the bacteria that their immune systems kill?"
Well they probably refuse to take antibiotics for one thing.
"The follicle mites they drown when they shower?"
The vegans I've known? I don't think they do shower...
'but if we "stopped" at every pool of living cells we'd walk on eggshells our whole lives!'
Like hard core vegans who refuse even to eat bacteria and will only eat sterile food...

And I would rather have free sites with advertisements that I am not compelled to download and watch their strobe-like effects.

You mean... not all American truckers are christian?
Surely only the terrorists hiding among them?
