The experiments done with the tongue input method that he referred to were actually quite impressive. A man that wasn't born blind but became blind after the fact described it as being able to see again but just shapes, no color, and a bit blurry. I am paraphrasing there but the idea was that with time the visual centers of his brain learned to take that input and create images with it to allow him to "see". The only immediate problem with this method was their test setup was very bulky and hard to use outside of a test environment. It has real potential in the future though.
If you are willing to put a bit of time into talking to their sales people, you can bargain your contract terms and prices a bit more than they would have you believe. I have personally done this a lot with sprint. For instance I have never signed a 2 year contract, and refuse to. I can usually talk down the price a bit and get a 1 year contract rather than 2. It just takes a little persistence. (not the annoying bitch at them til you get your way kind either). People are more willing to work with you when you are friendly.
It will cover part of the lore before the timeline for WoW began. All the comments about the movie trying to replicate a repeatative gameplay mechanic have obviously never paid one bit of attention to the game or read any of the quest logs etc. There is plenty of story there. The game must remain static so people can take part over and over again but the STORY is not static. They tried to remedy some of this in the last xpac by using phased zones where different players see different things depending on what quests they have completed.
I tested both illusions on the link provided in the summary and neither one had the effect on me that was claimed. What would that imply?
I tried them multiple times shifting my focus to different aspects of the image than directed just to see if it had any effect and it was no different.
Computer algorithms are not "the results of math". The result would be what the computer outputs. To me (and again courts may see this different) that means you can write a program with the intent to duplicate the function of another legally, however you can not legally just rip off the same code.
It isn't entirely useless, you can still get the link for your results, it is just overly annoying. I also found that it was NOT flagging youtube sites, which I found interesting.
I also have a friend that wasn't too computer savy and she used to call me all the time trying to fix windows problems she had until finally she decided to buy a Dell with Ubuntu on it. What made it work for her is that she didn't try to force everything to work how she was used to things working. She knew it would be a learning curve and took the time to relearn how to use her computer.
She now NEVER calls me asking for help and frequently talks about how happy she is not having to use windows anymore and how many fewer problems she has. Ubuntu can be used by the computer illiterate. It just can't be used by stupid windows users that think if it doesn't work like windows it is broken.
I already do this. I simply have a media PC and use the logitech DiNovo keyboard to load hulu on my TV over HDMI. Looks great and allowed me to cancel my cable.:)
No one seems to be pointing out what good could come from this. Isn't there a project to use captcha responses to help print reader programs determine what blurred and obscured words in print really are? If these programs can break the captchas, couldn't they read the blurred books too?
Anyone that buys DRM music deserves the backlash. I am one of those annoying guys that told everyone he knew to not use the legal music stores, not because I like to steal, but because they would surely find themselves unable to listen to the music they purchased. This has already happened to my cousin to bought through the walmart service, then had to reinstall her computer, then replaced her computer, and had all sorts of issues getting the rights to play her music again. I think she got that resolved, but you shouldn't even have to go through all that.
I only listen to music not related to the RIAA and have done so for many years now. I find that I still find many songs I think are great and love to listen to, and never have to worry about being screwed over. And yes, I do buy CDs and songs, fairly often even.
Can someone explain to me why being able to negotiate royalty rates is even a matter of legislation? Why wouldn't this just be agreed upon in contract with the parties involved? Bit confused here.
I love how everyone wants it to hit the 299 price point but have super high quality parts. Pick which is more important to you and base your purchase on that, but you aren't going to get both.
I actually always use a standard response to these questions that has nothing to do with the question at all. It is basically just another password that I use as a backup if I can't recall the real one. I have never had an issue where I couldn't recall my password. However my bank's website likes to randomly ask me security questions when I login, which is about the only time I have had to use it.
I have to agree. After working in any environment long enough you will see 2 types of employees. (not to imply you can't break this down different ways, but this is one way). There are those that will do their job when people place specific tasks ahead of them and once they complete those they will slack off, because after all, they have nothing to work on right? Then there are those that once they finish the task at hand will actively go out and pursue other tasks that are hiding under the table that also need to be addressed and work on those as well. I assure you, there is no lack of work to do in nearly ANY job. Bush is of the first type and doesn't have a work ethic to qualify him for any job nearly as important as what he does.
Except that the august recess has always been in place, regardless of if you are a dem or a rep. Bush took vacations all the time and extended the amount of time taken compared to previous presidents. Such is not the case here. Also, The dems are preventing the vote as a matter of principle. There are already tons of areas approved for drilling that have not yet been used, the reps just want to drill in areas that are protected as any disaster in those areas if they were drilling could cause massive economic and environmental damage. The economic being the main part. California will not allow off short drilling because their economy is based on costal attractions and seaports. If there is a major oilspill there, you can kiss that goodbye. Why drill in higher risk places when you still other other reserves to tap?
For these reasons, the dems are preventing the vote. The already scheduled vacation time is just a means to an end. Trying to point to this as an example of hypocrisy is just dumb.
The whole mayan calendar thing is such crap. The Calendar doesn't END, only the current cycle ends, which has happened many many times before. They just developed a super long calendar cycle so this may be the first time the super extended one has ended, but they have had calendar "resets" many times in their history.
You can see the magnetic field lines of the sun just by looking at it (with the right equipment of course). Gases ejected from the sun are ionized and thus effected by magnetic fields. So when you see a picture of the sun with all the arcing gasses and and loops of "fire" looking deals, that is all gas that is lining up with the magnetic field, much like iron filings around a magnet here on earth.
That is pure BS. I do not download illegal software online yet I do still care about this issue. Amazing eh? I DO download linux distros over bittorrent. I DO send large files over the net for work or to friends. I DO stream legal music quite often while I work (mainly from thesixtyone.com). And I DO spend far too much money for a higher speed connection and I WILL get royally pissed when my spead appears to be throttled.
I do not mind working WITH ISPs however to ensure bandwitdh isn't being wasted. Most people that abuse P2P don't even realize they are doing it. They leave programs open that constantly upload files and they are for the most part totally unaware of this fact. So troddling down P2P uploads to a RESONABLE speed and not a tiny fraction of what it should be, is ok with me.
They could also send automated emails to high traffic users and let them know that their usage appears high and there may be something they should be concerned with. After all, if they have a trojan and their system has been turned into a ZOMBIE and is spamming traffic all the time, they probably want to stop that just as much as comcast does. An email with some information and links might also get some people to better understand their usage and curb it without comcast even having to use all these catch all methods that just piss people off.
I am really looking forward to the OS X and windows ports for KDE 4 when they become stable. I have actually been looking forward to this for years. This would allow me to use all the same stuff in windows and linux and make everything uniform. The only reason to boot to windows will be to play games I want to play though. This could also help linux adoption. First people switch to firefox and pidgin and maybe even openoffice, then they see someone using KDE on windows and want to try that. Then the switch to full blown linux distros seems very minor.

Not sure why there is so much speculation on the basics of the story line when blizzard has already been talking about this for some time.

Big bang theory is awful. How can you even clasify that in the catagory of geek? It is just lame.
That explains why you are reading slashdot rather than working. ;)
Would that make them petafiles?

Exactly what I was thinking. I read the quote and thought to myself, "Given what this guy codes, that is exactly the mindset you would expect."
agreed, I have had this problem as well.

Butchering a Twain quote of grounds for treason! ;)
Unfortunately, I live in America, thus the statement.
