  7. These are fake on Preliminary OS X & PPC 970 Benchmarks · · Score: 4, Interesting

As posted by some on macrumors, the benchmarks claim a performance increase in Bryce 3D with dual processors. Bryce 3D does not take advantage of dual CPU's. Don't trust these numbers. I think this website is just making some cash off of the banner ads on the site.

Al Gore. He's so lifelike he's fooled millions of people. Think about it: He took the initiative in creating the Internet, ran for president, even joined the Apple board. Not only that, he reproduced, bearing 2 lovely children with a known censorship advocate. Take that humans!

  11. Alternatives to ProTools on Cheap Audio Production · · Score: 1

Protools may be great but there are other less expensive solutions with the same audio fidelity and professional feature sets. Steinberg makes Cubase SX and Nuendo, my favorite audio production programs.

The cost of Pro Tools typically involves hardware for audio processing. With Steinberg's software my Pentium 4 1.8 Ghz handles everything, and I can run 16 tracks without even slowing down my system.

Not only is technology making record labels obsolete, it's also making studios obsolete. With a $2,000 investment in computer equipment and software, $500 to sound-dampen the garage, and $500 for a decent microphone and mic preamp, plus one of these, you can rock pretty hard these days, and sound very good while you're at it.

  12. DVD-R on High Density CDs · · Score: 2, Interesting

With the steady decline in DVD-R prices, expect this to be a novelty, especially the version that needs a firmware upgrade for the drives. We'll be buying bulk packs of DVD-R's for $12 bucks very soon.

    What's the read / write speed? I confess I didn't RTFA.

  15. Music on Where Indie Artists Get Everything · · Score: 1

I've been looking for something like this for a while. My band (see sig) uses Papal, but we only get one or two orders a week, we sell most of our stuff at shows. I think Paypal is a little cheesy and unprofessional, but setting up your own credit card payment system is way out of a small band's league.

Chuck is just spreading the costs of the credit card system amongst all the bands.

What I didn't see is ho well it integrates into an existing site, so theoretically people buy a CD without even knowing they're in a frame on a different site. Maybe I just answered my own question.

  21. Mailshell.com on Spam Research Six Month Report · · Score: 3, Interesting

Mailshell.com tells me who spams me. You can assign yourself a "new" email address anytime, just by making it up when you give it to someone. The fake email is forwarded to your real address. So I have addresses like amazon@me.mailshell.com, etc. You can also direct any email that comes from a particular address to the trash, and never see it. I like it, I don't think it's too expensive. When I signed on it was still free.
