    Well the Mac Client for Yahoo just doesnt suck, it totally doesnt do half the stuff the windows version does like voice chat support.

    I bought my wife an iBook, and my parents an older iMac off ebay.

    My wife no longer swears at the computer every time something goes wrong, and she has even learnt how to install her own software.

    My parents are the sort that had trouble learning to use the timer on the Microwave, so the same deal, even though OSX is considered easy to use, some people still have trouble. I can really see the application of a Kiosk terminal for elderly parents.

    Believe me this is an IE emulation Opera doesnt need. Looks like the usual marketing schlock. by everyone, they mean IE users. So perhaps this will be the begining of the end of IE. As an Opera and Konqueror user, this is a very good thing.

    It was like this in Austalia shortly after broadband first came out, nobody complained then.

    Now it is totally rooted. I have a 3Gig limit, which means If I download a full distro in a month, I have to be very careful not to blow the rest and restrict my surfing.

    I have figured that I can use my broadband monthly limit in less than a day, then get restricted to 2-3kbs for the rest of the month.

    Just shows you how screwed Australia's broadband is.

    Perhaps if someone where to nominate that their isp could block XX ports, perhaps that could be permissable. But I think that restricting the use of the network just for people who are too dumb to know better, no way!

    I guess it would be a bit like not letting cars to go over the speed limit and therefor being built only to travel at 60KPH etc. It would suck for the motor heads, just as default firewalling would suck for the propeller heads

    Im begining to understand the importance of why there is no currency in StarTrek (next gen) at least with the federation. It would be very depressing if the bean counters had to design the Enterprise and Picard had to fill out an expense report everytime he fired a photon torpedo.

    Once upon a time the USA never had a reputation for doing things on the cheap. But today, it looks like they are trying to do everything on the cheap. (Iraq?) Seems like Washinton has been invaded by penny pinching accountants, or is it body snatchers, I cant remember.

    I think that its time to start to refer to SCO in this light at CANOPY:SCO. Not only are CANOPY SCO's owners, but own Trolltech and LinuxNetwrox as well.

    Putting pressure/negative publicity on the group is bound to create problems for McBride, and hell, he has it coming in truckloads. Just call it Karma

    Also LinuxNetwrox has a cluster of linux boxes listed as an example on its website: with 2,304 Intel Xeon processors

    I recently got hold of Doom for the Gameboy advance. The gameboy is no PS2 so something like doom is well suited to its capabilities.


    I have to say that Im reliveing the addiction all over again each day on the train into work.


    Theres nothing like the sound the chaingun makes to wake up and really piss-off other passengers early in the morning. - I love it!

    Its obvious that hurling abuse at SCO, while uplifting, is not going to change the way they are behaving. Far from it, it seems that we are in effect playing into there hands drumming up publicity for these cretins.

    I think that it would be more effective to lobby (and by that i dont mean output from the insult generator) any vendors that still have some sort of relationship with SCO.

    The easiest would be any company that also has an Open source/ Linux relationship. Make them know how we feel. And how their relationship with SCO may sour the relationship with the linux community

    I live in Australia, so its a little hard for me to do anything from here, but Linux users are obviously very pissed off with SCO right now.

    How about organising a protest / rally at this forum they are holding in Las Vegas?

    We could also make it fun, like holding a compitition to find and urinate on McBrides car etc. (extra points if you get it in the air vents)

    I dont see this going anywhere fast.

    Lets face it, windows is yesterdays GUI technology. If you want to have a look at a great GUI that has all the underpinnings of a solid unix system. Look no further than Apple's OSX 10.2.4

    The KDE and GNOME people should start getting their ideas from Apple, not Microsoft. Better still how about something original?

    Its taken the best part of a year to move my entire family and I off windows, why would I want to go back?

    As someone who makes his living writing applications using MS technologies, this news deeply disturbs me.

    I was hoping that one day I could write my applications on windows and deploy them on something more stable than windows/iis like Linux/Apache. That appears to be a pipe dream

    I knew that MS was evil, but this just illustrates that I had better start learning something like Java quick smart, because I no longer want to be affiliated with Microsoft.

    Looks like MS didnt learn anything when they alienated developers with the last open source FUD thing that backfired.

    IS there a web server or ISP or something where we could perhaps trial out or demostrate Mono/ASP.NET

    Perhaps a sample application with source code, hosted on Apache?

    Ideally something like Brinkster.com where you can have your own site and play around with Mono on a web server?

    I tried to configure a user for my son who is 3 years old.
    It worked fine, nice coloured theme and all, but basically its still a little too hard and while the OOS educational software isnt bad, he ultimately wanted to run "Thomas the Tank Engine"

    I ended up just getting a 266Mhz grape coloured iMac really cheaply and it kinda goes with the rest of his room in terms of looks.

    He can start the thing up, run his games and then turn it off all by himself. I wouldnt have that confidence with Windows or Linux
